Absolute pleasure to play on that video! As always thanks for all the awesome and informative content Glenn. Definitely considering adding some Greenbacks to my live rig
Have a great Holiday Glenn. Too many cork sniffers on this earth. One of the best sounding cabs I have had was a Peavey 112 that I had to repair and put in a new birch baffle. Everyone loved the thing. Thanks for all the great content throughout the year.
Hey Glen keep up the good work thanks for the content. Anyone else that can’t wait to get this damn work week over with? Merry Christmas everyone I hope you get a few days off this year.
You letting people know that it will be a few days to get their licenses is why I love your channel so much, being up front and honest is way more important to a consumer than the BS everybody else does.
1. Nigel - Great addition to the channel 2. I have some high end guitars and some cheaper - I find myself using the cheaper ones 99% of the time. I am less worried about damaging them, they sound just as good and since they are more worn by play they feel better. 3. If you are stuck on one kind of sound then you are missing a world of music. I play rock, metal, country, classical, jazz. I use everything at my disposal and will never be afraid of different amps or speakers. Dare to be different - Be the Bob Ross of guitar.
Thanks for all the great moments of entertainment and education you have worked so hard to keep us engaged, Glenn. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Peace
Hey Glenn, I just wanted to say, that I admire people who are really knowledgeable in their field of work. You seem to really know what you are doing. I also respect the fact, that you're still willing to learn new things, and admit that you don't know everything and be open minded. Thank you for the knowledge and entertainment.
At work we often have “lunch and learn” sessions when learning new software or hardware. On this channel, it’s more like “laugh and learn”. I appreciate the info and definitely enjoy the laughs. Great work as always.
I’m a metal guy and I’ve been using my greenback loaded Marshall cab paired with a 5150 for the last 15 years and I’ve pushed them hard and still continue to!! Through relentless rehearsals, gigging and recording over that time. not a crackle, fizzle or muddy sound from my cab. Had my doubts at first like others did but that quickly faded.
I bought the Harley Benton vertical 2x12 by your recommendation and love it! I did change the upper speaker to a greenback to play around and experiment. For a couchside rocker. It's a no brainer!!
I get that I commented on the previous video re that deal - but I need to say thank you again. It’s literally crazy. Also, if I may - I’ve been watching the channel for quite some time and it feels like this deal comes from the right place. I really feel Glenn is trying to do us all a solid and I think that’s just effing cool. Thank you again so much Glenn.
I swapped the speakers out of my Marshall 1960A cab to experiment with different tones and to use something other than a V30. Loaded 2 Celestion greenbacks and 2 Warehouse green berets and it sounds amazing. The green berets have become one of my favorite speakers
Hey Glenn! Nice too see you try out greenbacks... I use the synergy syn50 head with their preamps and I noticed the speaker setup on their (although expensive, $1199) 4x12. Two greenbacks in the upper part of the cab and two v30 in the bottom compartments... Maybe worth looking in to? Cheers from Sweden
Thanks for the recommendation, Glenn! My new 2x12 from HB with the Greenbacks just got through Customs this morning and they're saying it should be here sometime next week. I'm stoked! Also, I just got my new Kali LP-6 v2 6.5" studio monitors wired up to my interface and powered on today and holy shit, what a difference. Night and day from headphones. Thanks for the rec on those a while back too!!! I was sitting on a livestream this morning where there were tons of violins, brass, and taikos (those big standing drums that weigh hundreds of pounds) and man could you feel it when they were being played. Totally cool. The e906 should be here today so it can sit with baited breath awaiting the cab too. So yes, thank you for "recommending the piece[s] of crap". I keep finding some really cool equipment that I ACTUALLY USE that way.
Been watching and subscribed a long time now.. love the 'evolution' of the channel, it got somuch better with time. Love reading the comments as well.. the balance between entertainment and information is actually really good.. some people seem to forget the entertainment part and take some stuff to seriously. On that note: MORE NIGEL PLEASE! Have an awesome christmas and holiday all. btw: had to get this christmas deal.. its just to good
GLLEEENNNNN !! I’m a little older than your average viewer but you keep me working on ‘ it ‘. [what ever that is ] Even though I’ve kinda been there and done that in the old days, over the last couple years you have awoke my creative juices . Quite inspiring. Thanks for the fuel and laughter. Keep it up ya fuck ! Seasons Greetings!
When I was first wanting to start my rig I did a lot of searching on affordable guitar cabs and one of the most helpful videos was your Harley Benton v mesa cab shootout video. It was what ultimately made me get vintage 2x12 for what would soon be a peavey triple xxx head. It’s been about 2 years now and while that faithful HB cab has served me well I decided to upgrade to a 4x12 but wanted something more unique. I found exactly that in Egnater VN-412 cab with elite-75 speakers and absolutely love it and it makes me stand out in the local scene for sure! (P.S. you’re the man Glen)
Just a thought on a video (or even a series), based on the question about going to engineering school at around the 4:30 mark here. What about doing a comparison to how you can buy your own gear, setup a small room or garage to record in including acoustic treatments, mics, cables, plexi to reflect sound correctly so stuff doesn't bleed as bad, etc, small board or computer, interfaces, decent outboard gear and how to get that to sound decent (or even good!). Add that to your Spectre classes (and/or other online alternatives) and see what that costs compared to going to engineering school. Could be eye opening that you can probably get your classes, buy a good starting base of gear and start your own small studio for less than the cost of going somewhere to get a worthless certificate. Heck, even for us hacks that don't want to do this for a living and just want to have some fun recording our own stuff or for some friends, could probably get a lot out of that. Cheers!
@ 16:40 One thing I would have liked to see was the frequency graphs laid over each other on the open vs. closed back. OTOH, make plans for Nigel. To Crom with XTC they were using vintage 30s.
Love Nigel. When doing tone comparisons, would it be possible to include a basic frequency sweep? I really like the freq charts and how there is no hiding. I personally like seeing how gear responds to sweeps as well. Might also piss off a few tone-sniffers lol.
Hey glenn. I got the HB 2x12 horizontal, cause of your recommendations of HB and i am freakin super happy with it. Its a damn nice cab. I run a marshall dsl and a triple rec to it and it freakin rocks! Keep up the good work man, and thank you for what you do.
Hey Glenn, love your work, just wanted to suggest that when comparing speakers it would be awesome if you could make a section with guitar soloed tracks using a room mic too. I know this is not really a music production angle but as a bedroom player that still cares about his guitar sound, I would love a comparison similar to what you had with the dv-77, the mojotone and the hesu demon but from my perspective, what I would hear while practicing.
LOVE the extra effort in production value you are adding Glenn. In an over crowded marketplace you seem to understand better than most what it takes to deliver. keep it up.
I actually LOVE Nigel!!!!!!!! More of!! Also, I have a good size number of Marshalls and their various cabs and the Harley Benton sounds pretty good. Wouldn’t mind one with greenbacks!!
Greenback is my favourite speaker, thanks for checking them out. My only gripe with them is their low wattage. How about a challenge, where you try to find a higher wattage equivalent? Personally I had to settle on Creamback M65, which also sounds awesome, but I wonder if there are any other options with a similar tone, yet higher wattage. Thanks for the awesome content Glenn!
The V30 was also routed to be a higher wattage Greenback. Weird as hell, I know. But anyway, the wattage isn't an issue if you aren't cranking the amp. And in most recording and live situations, you don't need to. At least for metal.
I recently found out about the JBL speaker that Fender used and started looking into it, since I've never heard of guitar speaker from them, and realized that their extended range woofers have pretty much the same range as guitar speakers, from 70 Hz to 5000-6000 Hz, with a resonance peak around 80 Hz. I bought one to try it out and was quite surprised by how nice (and different) they sounded, specially because they cost half the price of a guitar speaker. It would be cool to see you try something like this out, experimenting with non conventional stuff.
Glenn i appreciate all you do for the recording musician I’ve struggled for years to get the sounding my head into my music and now with ELE and Element i am getting it every mix thanks so much for being here and making wonderful content and thanks also for helping musicians out with they’re grammar and punktuashun I’m learning so much
GLEEEEEEEN. I'd love to see how using metal production on another genre could alter the sound or feel of a song. I'd be happy to volunteer one of my songs in pursuit of the answer
More Nigel please. He encapsulates the guitar tonewood & pickup snob I used to be, before I figured out that, for example, a Masonite-bodied Danelectro sounds epic, and that Neil Young sounds just about the same whether he’s playing a Gretsch hollowbody with FilterTrons or a modded Les Paul with a Firebird bridge pickup.
I've been really appreciative of your videos man, so much dialog in a funny way is the best type of videos man, I view guitar gear in a whole new way just because of your videos, just because of this video I'm probably gonna try celestion greenbacks now, thank you so much for your help man, cheers 🤘
I'd love to see a video on what you'd get rack gear wise if you had to start from scratch. I feel like anyone that is going to or wanting to run a hybrid studio would find the information valuable. Knowing where and what to start with or different routing ideas that you've picked up over the years from experience or working with talented people would be great to see an overview of. (Sorry it's long winded but either way love you guys at SMG!)
Merry Fucking Christmas Glenn! Nigel adds humor, because I've dealt with the snobs before! Love the content. I'm just getting back into music 25 year hiatus. Love that you show you don't have to spend a million dollars to sound like a rock star.... Hope you have a blessed new year!!! 🤘🏻
I love my greenbacks! Thankyou for proving they can work! I would love to know how hard you were driving them as most metal recordists seem to slate the low power handling and early break up.
Thanks for all your great videos! Especially the Harley Benton stuff. I play a Harley Benton1x12 Vintage 30 Cab at home with an ENGL Fireball 25 and i love it! Its just great! Here's how to get over the Harley Benton "cheap equals bad"-bias if necessary to anyone: Take a screwdriver and get rid of the logo. All of a sudden, the speaker looks straight forward like an actual vintage speaker worth thousands of euros and you'll never question the sound again.
Thanks for taking the time to review these HB cabs. I was really interested in hearing how they sound but too few reviews on them out on YT. Any chance you'd be able to a review of their G412Plus with the V30/Greenback or the Creamback versions? Thanks & Happy Holidays!
The first video of yours I saw you dogged on bassists so much, and you yell so often that at first i figured like many you dont know half of what you discuss. I've been a producer for many years but I started bass a year and some months ago and guitar less than a year. Your opinions on bassists is one of the big motivators for me to spend as much time as i can attempting to refine my playing skills. I dont want to be one of those "useless bassists" in genres that are increasingly losing bassists to 7+ string guitars as many guitarist have too much ego to pick up the right instrument for the job. Big thanks to you for keeping me informed when i'm still so new to the live music side off things.
I really like the CAB you recommended. got it cheap 2gether with a DSL20 Head. Good Enough for Home Usage and small gigging. Don't need a massive amount of gain for my sound. however the RAT or Cock Fight giving it a nice boost.
I went straight from your video the other day to Thomann's website and bought the 412 greenback cab and it showed up today. For anyone curious or on the fence about ordering: 1. Shipping to USA was 160 bucks. It said 3 days. It took 3 days. 2. They shipped it directly in the Harley Benton box, which is super thin and they didn't double box it. No packaging inside other than styro corner bits and plastic wrap. Despite this the cab showed up in near perfect condition (a few surface scuffs on the top that might be able to be buffed off, I haven't tried.) 3. The cab sounds AWESOME. I been using a greenback IR through my captor lately so I kinda knew what I was getting into and this thing RIPS. It's good and thumpy without any rattles or anything like that. The construction seems tight, although I haven't opened it up to see how it looks on the inside yet. 4. It's a little smallish and doesn't come with casters just little rubber feeties. Even with shipping it was only 40 bucks more than a quad of Greenbacks cost from Sweetwater or whatever. Great deal. I may even wind up grabbing a creamback or CB/GB mixed cab if I wind up loving this thing.
Glenn, I remember when you bought my drums and when you arrived to pick them up, I asked you what you do. You mentioned your UA-cam channel but then you indicated to me that I likely would not appreciate it and you referenced that you worked in an auto factory and that is just how you are. I must have looked a little clean cut and not the kind of person that likely would not appreciate the channel. Well, here I am a few years later and I watch a lot of your stuff. I introduced your channel to a friend who is a guitar player and I know he watches a lot of your stuff as well. I am clean cut and he is a long haired rocker type and we have been friends for decades now. We do both share a fondness for people who tell the real story. Your channel production is very high quality and the content is always interesting and I just love all of the feedback on feedback that happens. It is interesting how one's talent overrides the f-bombs, the long hair and becomes pure appreciation of skill and knowledge. Merry Fucking Christmas Glenn! Keep up the fantastic quantity and quality and by the way, your guitar playing looks to be improving a lot to top it all off.
The SPL of the latest version of the G12M-25 (75Hz) looks to have a more balanced high-end than the previous one, more like the early 70s pre-Rola. Have you considered mixing it with a Weber AlNiCo California if you like the early EVH sound (and who doesn't)?
It seems like people perceive volume differences from a tube change as an actual shift in the tone. No, the amp is just louder or quieter. When the amp gets quieter it seems like the amp has more gain and more trebles and when the amp is louder has more low end and mid range. This is what's perceived in the room when your ear is 3'+ above the speaker. The microphone just picks up a volume difference... Once that volume difference is corrected for, the tonal shift is absolutely zero. In my experience anyways. That said, I've had completely worn out power tubes that made my rectifier sound muddy as hell (I didn't even know they were worn out; the amp blew a fuse - i thought rectos were just muddy). When I put new ones in, the low end character absolutely came alive the amp was so much tighter. As tight as a recto can be anyways. Awesome videos Glenn, thank you!
When people think you called them an idiot when you never said that makes me wonder if they hear things in a mix that aren't even there. Merry Fucking Christmas 🎉❤😀
All I have heard Glen say for YEARS is this, "you don't NEED an over priced guitar to play good/sound good, if you think you do, you're an idiot" Never did I once hear him say, "don't enjoy the fruits of your labor" He is simply trying to teach/show people that you can get great sounds with out spending a million damn dollars..... The fact people get mad about this hurts my brain because I simply can NOT understand why people are like this. Thanks for showing me shit that does the job that I can afford Glen. For YEARS now you have given me good and often, great advice. Your discord is full of people who know shit that I need to know and they have always helped me. You provide a service that Gibson would charge for. Never stop being the grump Canadian who gives a shit, alright? We like ya this way sir
Glenn! Looking at DI-Boxes, what's the difference between an active and a passive DI-Box? And should they be matched with active/passive pickups for best results? Thanks!
Hey Glenn, has anyone loaded two vintage 30's and two greenbacks into a 4x12? Been interested to see how it would sound for a long time out of pure curiosity. Love the way the channel has evolved since day one , Nigel is gold and I think he's a great addition to the channel and its evolution. Thank you for everything you do for the music world.
What's your thaugths on using a creamback speaker for metal? I was thinking about it becaus you talked about the greenbacks being used back in the day.
As an old school MetalHead, I tended to drift from ESP - to Jackson - to B.C. Rich - now I've moved on to Schecter loaded with Seymour Duncans.... obviously, each guitar equipped with it's own unique personality & awesome tone. But in recent years, I've realized I've gotten older and it's getting Harder & Harder to haul around those huge cabinets and Giant PedalBoards... so decided to finally downsize my Lumbering Tower of Power of Full Marshall Stacks and swapped them out for the BOSS Katana 212 (loaded with two Eminence 200watt Legends) and also replaced a WAY over-encumbered, 85lbs PedalBoard for the New BOSS ME-90!! I'm just curious... but would this trade-off be considered a Modernized Upgrade ... or would it be considered Sacrilege??
To the guy who said he bought the guitars he dreamed of as a kid. That’s great, but you’re just playing fantasy. Like putting a Spider-Man costume on and jumping around the house. Very fun but it could be done without the expensive costume. Glenn isn’t saying you can’t jump around the house and have fun. He’s saying you can do it without spending thousands on an expensive cosplay outfit.
Maybe I'm different. I was a kid in the early 80s when one cousin was introducing me to Maiden and thrash.. an Aunt was introducing me to punk, new wave.. Dad was classic rock and blues.. it werent about the guitar in their hands so much as what they could do with it. Cheap guitars (eg Gordon Smith, Jap Fenders) reguarly got wrecked.
Anyone who doesn't like Nigel is my enemy for life. He brings an air of sophistication to the show and clearly has good taste in tone wood and pickups.
Hey Glenn, I got one of those “goes for $200 used” Marshall 4x12’s with I think AWG? speakers. I was thinking of replacing them with 2 Green Backs, and 2 Cream backs. Would this be a good combo, or would the not resonate?
Hey Glenn by the way do you have any IR's available for that sweet sounding Blackback speaker? I rewatched the video recently and the tone of that thing was fantastic
Hi Glenn. I received a bonus for the holidays and upon watching your video with Spencer Sotelo promoting the course bundle, I told myself "this is the first time in years I'm going to do something nice for myself" and bought it. While Periphery is one of my all-time favorite bands, I've been an equally devoted follower of your channel for 10 years now, dating all the way back to the infamous Sex Kittens. Around that time, I indebted myself to a bank just to purchase a drum kit and start playing drums again. The drums are no more, but I always wanted to be able to record musical ideas, and now with your course bundle, I will be able to do it and not look like a fool when coming up with ideas because I will be learning from some of the best in the field. Now all I need is an audio interface and get my old Squier Thinline Tele HH from the pawn shop and give it some much needed TLC and get my ass to work. Thank you for doing what you do. Merry Christmas and FUCK YOU GLENN!
I agree slightly with the opening message. The cab DOES matter, as the woods react differently to the speakers alone with the spec of standard size or oversized size. But speakers are the main main tool for a different tonality.
I'd like to see a test of mic positioning in an open back Cabinet Difference between front mic and also micing the Rear open section of the cab. I've often wondered if capturing the "wasted" sound would make a difference
@@nicholasmullins3693 "Put on the back burner" and forgotten is two separate things, maybe for more modern metal it isnt used much if you need that harder percussive djent etc, for classic rock and heavy metal it has the sound. I have used my vintage 4x12 with greenbacks from the 60´s that i have owned for 30 years for rock, thrash, prog and classic metal and it sounds great. These days i mostly use my Harley Benton 2x12 with V30´s since that also sounds great and since we share reheasal studio with another band and im more careful with my old 4x12 since it has gone from being the cheapest 4x12 i could find 30 years ago to not at all cheap anymore.
Hey, Glenn, what about the bass cabinet and speakers? Yeah, bass player here, but I know a lot about electronics and I'm designing a bass amp for band rehearsal (I'll use simulations for recoding). Now, I can get some speakers locally for my "bass cab" but most of them 12 to 15 inch speakers are in a range of 30-3500Hz, at least by the manufacturer or shop claims. Should I augment them with a 10" or two, with a passive crossover, to get that "clank" as you call it?
I'm a subscriber and I think your videos are spot on. Your energy is addictive. I also have a couple of small valve amps, a Tiny Terror and a marshall dsl 1 or something like that and a blackstar ht5h 🙄 and if I play them long enough they warm my room up a little which is nice in winter. I can't tell the difference between various valves or even those or a solid state amp which makes me feel like a failure in life sometimes. Well done merry Christmas and a happy new year 👍👍👍
i think it's fair to say that changing any element of your signal chain will produce *some* difference, but what Glenn is trying to say is that these (often tiny) changes aren't worth paying out the absolute ass for. if you wanna spend $300 on fancy magnets or $400 on "premium" tubes, be my guest. if you aren't absolutely pissing money and want the best tone for your buck, i think Glenn's advice is pretty solid
The people getting upset simply by suggesting cheaper alternatives is mind-blowing. At the end of the day, it's your money. I've always saif that you should buy an instrument that inspires you. If that instrument is a $3,000 dollar replica of a 50 year old guitar, more power to you. Just don't get pissed off when not all of us want to spend that much and can find just as much value and inspiration from a product that we found for a fraction of the price. Thanks for doing what you do Glen, and happy Festivus.
Gotta agree with Frickenstein on this one, I quite often get compliments on how good my 5150iii through my Harley B. vertical sounds. And yes, it does sound beastly. I only took the logo off the front because it looks more like it really belongs on the side of a 1983 Olds Ninety Eight than an amp cab. But aside from that, for $237.00 as opposed to a grand for a Mesa, I'm one very satisfied customer. Thank you Thoman!! And btw Nigel's fucking hilarious.
Bought the Mega Bundle Course, couldn't pass up on that deal! The plug-ins did not show up in the cart when purchasing tho, and they were not in the invoice. I hope that's normal and it's just because it will take a few days to get access to them. That kinda worries me...
I put new tubes in my Peavey Deuce VT and the difference is night and day. Like no comparison. No need for an A/B or frequency response. Because I bought it second hand without tubes. Can I lol on that....? Loving the Nigel input and yes I got the song title. I think you have his contributions about the right level. Snippets here and there. 👍
I absolutely took advantage of that mega deal. Thought it was bullshit when I saw everything listed. All of those courses, plus EVERY plugin!? The best part about it is I won my fantasy football money league, so the winnings covered it. And my wife said fantasy football is a waste of time, showed her! Also something I just noticed about your videos that I didn't realize is that you're rarely center of the shot. To me it comes off as you letting the information be the focus and you're just the guy giving it. Don't know how I never noticed that before. Cheers, Merry Christmas, and horns up!
Absolutely bought that course bundle. The price is worth it for the plugins alone, much less getting a ton of lessons. Worth the investment 100%
I made the investment but cannot find the plugins to have a play with, where did you locate them please man?

Kirk Hammett doesn’t take Greeny on the road. And what seals the deal is the fact that Larry Carlton, Mr. 335…no longer plays a 335 live.

Nigel's great, but he also can't be in EVERY video. The audience would get bored of him and he'd go away forever!
Yup. Needs more Nigel.
I honestly really don't like that bit. It just interrupts the video flow for a not very funny joke.
Agree. Nigel bit is hilarious lol
More Nigel is definitely a good thing.
I love Nigel - his voice has those piano like lows that tickle the tone wax in my ears.
Yeah, I'd like to see Glen take frequency response curves of my tonewax to disprove their huge effects on clean tones.
Absolute pleasure to play on that video! As always thanks for all the awesome and informative content Glenn. Definitely considering adding some Greenbacks to my live rig
One of the best shows on UA-cam. Thank you.
Your show helped me through some tough times in my life. All the best.

Have an awesome christmas and holiday all. btw: had to get this christmas deal.. its just to good
Just bought the bundle!! Can't wait to play with the plugins!! Happy holidays Glen!!
GLLEEENNNNN !!
I’m a little older than your average viewer but you keep me working on ‘ it ‘. [what ever that is ]
Even though I’ve kinda been there and done that in the old days, over the last couple years you have awoke my creative juices .
Or expose Glenn's bs that the small differences aren't meaningful.
@@AMSOfficial79they are meaningful, the question is, how much do you want to pay for small differences…
Hey glenn. I got the HB 2x12 horizontal, cause of your recommendations of HB and i am freakin super happy with it. Its a damn nice cab. I run a marshall dsl and a triple rec to it and it freakin rocks! Keep up the good work man, and thank you for what you do.
P.s I'm looking for that blue HB SG if you want to sell it lol?
Nigel ROCKS 🎸🤪 Merry Christmas Glen! 🎄
Celestion touted the Creambacks as the higher wattage "Greenbacks" but look for actual comparisons such as the ones made by Zilla Cabs and whatnot.
The V30 was also routed to be a higher wattage Greenback. Weird as hell, I know. But anyway, the wattage isn't an issue if you aren't cranking the amp. And in most recording and live situations, you don't need to. At least for metal.
i mean, the Greenbacks are essentially born to be a cheaper substitute to the Alnico speakers (especially Celestion Blue).
Best cab i ever had was a late 1960's Sound City 412 with Fane speakers in, epic sound espically with the matching SS Mk3 100 watt head!
Glenn i appreciate all you do for the recording musician I’ve struggled for years to get the sounding my head into my music and now with ELE and
Element i am getting it every mix thanks so much for being here and making wonderful content and thanks also for helping musicians out with they’re grammar and punktuashun I’m learning so much
I think the best way a band could sound unique and standout would be random tuning for everything
Oh hell nah, homie I know your not trying to put every riff on a 9 string tuned to drop D#
That's been done - Sonic Youth.
@chrispile3878 not to mention (of all ppl) the Goo Goo Dolls
soundgarden and mbv beat you to this
Its super hard to do shit that hasn't been done. A lot has been done. I think microtonals. I haven't seen anybody playing microtonal metal or punk.
GLEEEEEEEN. I'd love to see how using metal production on another genre could alter the sound or feel of a song. I'd be happy to volunteer one of my songs in pursuit of the answer
Nigel is awesome! Also, yes, would love to see Westcreek on the channel...I'm sort of on the fence as to whether I want to get one.
More Nigel please. He encapsulates the guitar tonewood & pickup snob I used to be, before I figured out that, for example, a Masonite-bodied Danelectro sounds epic, and that Neil Young sounds just about the same whether he’s playing a Gretsch hollowbody with FilterTrons or a modded Les Paul with a Firebird bridge pickup.
im a guitarist for my metal band and glen thank you soo much for showing me harley benton and ur videos for recording at home ur a sweetheart
Thanks for including the "language" comment and the one about A/B comparisons. Love your responses in this video.
Merry Christmas 🎄 and all the very best for Spectre Sound Studios for 2024 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Love your videos, much kudos from the UK 🇬🇧
Merry Christmas, Glenn. Can’t wait to see what you got coming out in 2024!
I love the combination of 2 greenbacks with 2 vintage 30s, that's what I'm running right now and it just plain kicks ass
I want to make an ugly bastard 4x12 (4 different speakers) out of my Engl but I can't at the moment, that's so frustrating T_T
@@CyberChristthe ugly bastard build? I thought that was just the stuff of legends and high fantasy!
@@ReizokoRyu Well, at the moment, it's still fantasy T_T
Love the "over the top" presentation. It's HELLISHLY entertaining!
Merry Christmas from Sweden, and yes. More Nigel. He is a star.
I really like the CAB you recommended. got it cheap 2gether with a DSL20 Head. Good Enough for Home Usage and small gigging. Don't need a massive amount of gain for my sound. however the RAT or Cock Fight giving it a nice boost.
LOVE Nigel. Happy holidays Glenn and keep up the good work!
I bought the HB angled 2x12" 4-5 years ago. It definitely needed some break-in time but has been solid ever since
When people think you called them an idiot when you never said that makes me wonder if they hear things in a mix that aren't even there.
Merry Fucking Christmas 🎉❤😀
Glenn, have yourself a Merry, merry little Christmas and thanks for another great year with you! Cheers from near Thomann in Bayern, Germany! ;)
Love Nigel! More Nigel! I love the show, Glenn. Keep up the great work, man!!
All I have heard Glen say for YEARS is this, "you don't NEED an over priced guitar to play good/sound good, if you think you do, you're an idiot"
Never did I once hear him say, "don't enjoy the fruits of your labor"
He is simply trying to teach/show people that you can get great sounds with out spending a million damn dollars.....
I did this to one of my ENGL 412 Vintage cabs and it sounds absolutely killer.
@@imeqsmd I can only imgaine! Thank you , at least I know someone has tried it and it sounds damn good.
lol Nigel is a great addition to the videos. He has a great comedic timing.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Glenn.
100% more Nigel!! Such a great idea! His clips are pure comedy gold.
What's your thaugths on using a creamback speaker for metal? I was thinking about it becaus you talked about the greenbacks being used back in the day.
Love your channel. Merry christmas Glenn. Keep Nigel too 😊
As an old school MetalHead, I tended to drift from ESP - to Jackson - to B.C.
Nothing is sacrilege if it sounds good.
Was A the black back or B?
@@sparella What are you talking about
Geometry, certainly. Wood material? No. Evidence here: ua-cam.com/video/fCnJT1pT7YM/v-deo.htmlsi=3zuPusNjw5Og79pG
Merry Christmas Glenn! 🎄🎉
GLLLLLLEEEEEEENNNN
Any thoughts on FRFR cabinets pushed by modelers?
Also what do you use to isolate amp and cabinet to prevent rattling from sound?
I'd like to see a test of mic positioning in an open back Cabinet
Difference between front mic and also micing the Rear open section of the cab.
I've often wondered if capturing the "wasted" sound would make a difference
I will definitely try it first with impulse response. But you have definitely got me interested in the greenback speakers 🔊
I use a Mesa Triple Rec in to V30's & Greenbacks in a X pattern. The sound is huge!
Calling the greenback "the forgotten gem of speakers" is funny since its still one of the most popular speaker models so its hardly forgotten.
In metal it kinda is though. Even normal rock bands. It's just been put on the back burner.
I've always used greenback and still do
@@nicholasmullins3693 "Put on the back burner" and forgotten is two separate things, maybe for more modern metal it isnt used much if you need that harder percussive djent etc, for classic rock and heavy metal it has the sound.
I only hear people ever talk about greenback and vintage 30s but ok.
Hey Glen, if you have not done a shoot out between Greenbacks, Creamback and the Vintage 30, please do one!
Sold! Thank you for the bundle Glen, Merry fucking Christmas!
Hey Glenn, what were the speakers you got for the Ride The Lightning sound? I can't seem to find the video where you mentioned it.
Have a good Christmas, Glen.... AND Nigel. He is great.
You too, dude!
Hey Glenn, do you have the Laney Ironheart IRT 412 Cab. with the HH costum speakers.?
That kinda worries me...
same!
