The difference between a root rake and a brush rake. A root rake is for cutting tree roots below ground level and then raking them into piles. They are heavier and the tines are spaced farther apart but not as much as a ripper. They will usually work about a foot deep with a larger dozer than this one, we also have a root rake that we use on a D6t. The tines on a root rake don't extend to the top of the blade and they can be hard to stack brush with, some are even pulled behind the dozer like a ripper or a stump plow.
This rake is designed to do clean up work behind an excavator. It can cut some small roots but it will gouge and dig when you get it any deeper than a couple of inches. It will peel up large chunks of sod where a root rake won't. Also, because the tines extend above the top of the blade it does well when stacking brush. We also have a brush rake that goes on a large wheel loader that is of the same design as this and works even better.

Pardner, you need to change the title of your video from "Using a brush rake . . . " to "Talking about a brush rake . . .". I'll swear, you need to lighten up on the narrative, Cameron. Most folks want to see "action" rather than a "filibuster".
