Thank you for this book! I have just discovered it yesterday and haven't finished reading, but this interview was very informative and interesting and I'm looking forward reading the whole book. Yes, I was intrigued by the title and feel the shame you have described. But I must say that I lived in several parts of the UK for three years, about 20 years ago, and I can or could definitely see differences in regards to housing, NHS or roadworks etc. When I arrived in the UK, I took a bus and asked someone for the tourist information, an elderly man addressed me saying: so, you are German...is Hitler still alive? I was pretty shocked and was glad to get off the bus. But this remained the only one strange incident. Anyway, thanks again and all the best 👍
The first and one of the really interesting parts of the book is how uncomfortable the titile makes us Germans. Its almost inappropriate to buy that book, which I did.
It’s very interesting to see so many indirect contributors to the book turn up to discuss a few loose ends. But to watch this only two years later gives a few hints on how many judgements on Merkel, even the smarter ones, are not ageing all too well right now.
They retained selective high school education and did not transfer intermediate professions training from apprenticeships and technical colleges to half-arsed 'new universities'. Simple really. Didn't need a whole book.
Your outside perspective is more than helpful in our struggle with our own populist movement over here in germany. Thank you so much.

Yep, es ist wirklich unangenehm
Now,one year later, the UK is regarded less grown up than ever in history.sad.

Turkish translation needs a 2nd look

33 years old counts as grown up for a country?
Update. This book and Kampfner's opinions are now totally out of date. Germany became dependent on Russian energy and are now doomed.
