Damn what a flash from the past! I had almost forgotten that this had happened yet after seeing this video I remember it like it was yesterday! Reminds me of when Metrolink leased coaches from Utah’s Frontrunner before receiving shipment of their Rotem cars. Great video and just an idea, would love to see a comparison video once they finish the double track segment in between Saddleback Church and Camino Capistrano Rd. and I-5! Would be cool to see how much has changed!
I remember those good old days when does BNSF locomotives led the rear end of Metrolink trains! Also when it was most common to see f59s on Metrolink! Can’t complain though I saw 852 this morning on M104!! Anyway, nice Video!
At this point, the Hyundai Rotem cars were basically brand new and a technological bug of sorts was discovered in the cab cars that disabled them from being able to be used as cab cars. Therefore, because Metrolink did not own enough power themselves to furnish every train with 2 engines(one each end) they leased around 20 locos from BNSF that they used for around 7 months while repairs to the cab cars software were made. The cars were still able to transport passengers which is why they were kept in rolling service, they were just temporarily not functional as cab cars. There may be more to the story but this is what I know, hope it helped!
I believe there was a fatal crash involving a Metrolink cabcar leading back in 2015? So Metrolink borrowed some BNSF locomotives to lead their trains while there was an investigation on the cabcars..
At the time, cab cars were banned from leading so Metrolink paid BNSF 20 million dollars to haul their trains and there would always be a bnsf train in front of the rotem cars.
I believe they did this while they were inspecting the cabcars after a fatal crash. BNSF engines took their place for a bit while the inspection lasted.
Oh yes!! The old days when BNSF trains used to help metrolinks!! Thank you spencer!

I think
I remember this back in 2016! I've seen BNSF Dash-9s pulling Metrolinks!
This is because a collision occurred with the train sets
Those are AC4400CWs. They have a much larger box on the conductor's side, and the hood logo is further back.
Such an amazing video showing what it’s like to follow a train along with its journey. Thank you for sharing your video with us!
And the quality is spot on from a few years ago and today great work spencer
0:42 fast bell
Dang I remember these Videos
3 scenes of double train starting from 11:25 13:00 and 13:40 nice catch of these bnsf trains on metrolink!
I liked the BNSF horn and it's the same as the CN coming from canada

Stop hogging 852, VC Line!
A Very Random Person HELL NO!!!
A Very Random Person The OC line needs to stop hogging 856 and 868!
@Metrolinkguy881 856 is on a 5 car set, so its mostly on the SB/IEOC Lines. Same with 868.
The AV Line never gets any PHRs now.
The double bnsf and metrolink was crazy
14:36
Ah yes, I remember back when it was really common to see a BNSF leading Metrolink
See if you can find an amtrak 506 train carrying the amtrak surfliner with the train behind please
Whatever happened to the railroad crossings at Irving CA?
The Crossings in Irvine have been removed and replaced by overpass bridges .
@@spencerhughes2255 at least any railfan can still record by the bridge.
@@spencerhughes2255 is it ok if i did a comment where I put a description of each train?
Turning crossings into bridges is stupid
Ah yes the ol' days :)
Nice BNSF Trains.
I love those BNSF locos too.
I like this because i'm train simmer and aviation lovers. But oh man its wood sleeper track
Wonder why Metrolink were useing BNSF locos at one point?

Ashton Nelson It was also because of a train derailment in 2015 that led to the discovery of that issue
Ah yes if it’s 2016 why is it 2020
Right now
He uploaded them with footage from 2016
Awesome Video
the best videos
Nice Trains
i am wondering what camera you use and if it's ok with you.
Why did bnsf always tow metrolink?
😊😊🤩☺️
Why BNSF worked with passenger trains?
At 11:53 what's going on here?
I think they put two trains together
@Railfaner 232 Metrolink combines trains for CMF deadbeats each day.
11:53 Looks like a 8 car Metrolink
Why did they do this I never knew why
I believe there was a fatal crash involving a Metrolink cabcar leading back in 2015? So Metrolink borrowed some BNSF locomotives to lead their trains while there was an investigation on the cabcars..

0:03 there it is
The lead is always H2
And it’s not 2016 it’s 2020

Why were they doing this? Looks like lots of trains and they all have an engine on the rear. What's up?
I believe they did this while they were inspecting the cabcars after a fatal crash. BNSF engines took their place for a bit while the inspection lasted.
