I get the metro Gateshead to Tyne Dock every weekday at 07:25. I always grab the seat right at the front whenever it's available (it usually is). At 07:20 every morning, the Airport metro pulls into platform 2 at Gateshead with passengers packed into it like sardines; it is always crammed full.
Yes, always packed at rush hour and on Saturday mornings. I don't know why the trains are so short. There are always two 'double carriages' although some of the platforms could easily take much longer trains. Some of the original stations would have to be extended though.
I moved from Gateshead last year, I loved the metro. Used to like going to Tynemouth, spending some time at the beach, then getting the ferry from North to South Shields. It deserves way more funding, the rolling stock is far too old.
I went on this yesterday for the 1st time in my life I got a Daysaver zone A for £3 Two zones is £4.10 (Day Saver) All Three is £5.10 (Day saver) A single is £1.50 It was A Good service
It used to be a lovely cream and yellow, followed by yellow and eather red or green. These days it is the crappy grey and yellow, because NEXUS have it in there heads that they are similar to TfL
MR TRUCULENT SAYS !!!! They should have kept the original name "RAPIT TRANSIT! and the old logo similar to a British Rail symbol like the woman who won the award in the "Shields Gazette" We are not French.
Lewis Smiles that's not a definition of a tram, many trams in EU go underground to avoid traffic in busy areas and it's not a metro it's a tram in a tunnel
Tyne and Wear is the cheapest Metro system I've ever been on. Almost every station has no ticket barriers so every journey is FREE! No wonder it makes no money and has asked Central Government for funding. INSALL TICKET BARRIERS!

Brian Morrison The trains are so infrequent, if they ran every 2 minutes there would be far more capacity

@@techreviewer unlimited but its only a single ticket tho so no day rider or return ticket but Manchester hasn't got zones so it doesn't matter
@@techreviewer i'm new in Manchester from berlin and in berlin a undergroud overground tram and bus dayrider only costs 5€😂

I just moved from berlin to Manchester and wondering why hasn't Manchester got subway they are a big city
It has trams instead ^_^
@@jlroyale4306 Trams aren't enough to serve a city as big as Manchester, especially when it's the bare minimum tram service to begin with.
Near old cinema one....bridge
They look Similar to the London underground
L'excuse moi?
Who in their right mind came up with such a drab livery, the Manchester metrolink and Merseyrail are not much better either.
im guessing you dont like black/grey and yellow
Actually the metro is one of the U.K.s most visible brands

How dare you, yellow is my favourite colour and I'm disappointed with Transpennine express for not having it at the front of their new trains!

It's not really a metro but a tram.
Lewis Smiles it's an underground tram lol
It got the same Metro standard as in Barcelona. Many Spanish cities does have overhead also. So it is a metro but not with third rail etc
It's technically light rail
