I hate romantic movies and I love this trilogy. So well written and performed. It's a love story in it's simplest way, no billionaires, no ex boyfriends to steal the girl at the middle of the movie, no stupid wedding scenes at the end of the film where she has to choose, no stupid fights because someone misinterpreted a private conversation at the other side of the door, of someone got drunk and had sex with the wrong person. Nothing. Just a simple story that happens in the span of 18 years.
But that's how simple and scary this kind of movie is. It is perfect!! But in real life, there are always an ex or 3rd person who will distract the person you love. Or family/relatives/friends who will break you apart. Or arguments and circumstances, it's inevitable

Yeah I've literally just finished watching it and the ending really blew me away. At first I was like "what? No! You can't just end it like that", but it's the perfect ending. I've not seen before midnight yet so I don't know where its headed but so far both sunrise and sunset are masterpieces.
Did anyone notice that transport they travel this movie is not random. In the first part they are young, hot and fast and they meet in the train which is fast as well. Here they are on the boat at their early 30's. Life is stable more or less and you can quitly go with flow. Just good script detail.
And in each one they become more alone and intimate. Train with strangers. Boat with less strangers. Limo with 1 driver. Family car with sleeping twins. Then finally on feet alone.
@Handsome Geek I have just discovered these masterpieces. I somehow misses them all. Before Sunrise is my new absolute favourite film. Touches my soul very deeply
the funny thing is - Marvel films have more of these kinds of moments than almost any other large budget action movies (give them a chance, there are more emotional character based nuances than you might think). This is coming from someone who loves MCU movies, but Before Sunrise remains, bar none, my favorite film of all-time.
@@lw1391 Yes, Marvel movies have them but I like my characters to be real. No superpowers. No good-vs-evil dichotomy. No costumes, just emotionally naked. Nothing that will make me conscious I am watching a movie (not a "movie movie" but cinema). Just people baring their souls. Sometimes with no clear ending. Just human, warts, flaws and all. Just my 2 cents.
I cannot describe how much I love this trilogy. And I love this scene. I feel them. I feel her words. I'm like that too, sensitive to the details. I deeply resonate with them. It's damned beautiful.
right after some of the toughest times i ever had in a relationship, this makes my feelings seem normal. im still so young so there's harder times surely to come yet but im glad i can feel better even after all that.
This movie portrays the beauty of 'REAL' conversations. Anyone with a tongue can talk, but communicating and exchanging ideas that are central to the concept of humanity is the reason why there's still something good in this world.
She is me.This is my exact philosophy on relationships. Sadly, I wish I wasn't this way so that I could detach quickly because the hurt is severe when you don't let anyone in, but when you finally do you get screwed 😢
You make it count. That's what's important. To paraphrase a madman Your love is like an endless ocean whereas other peoples are closer to tributaries that eventually add up to an ocean. Different approaches. And then there is the glorious desert that is me. Dead and pure.
This scene makes me really want to keep a journal again. Although it feels outdated to, I really liked that Celine kept one so she could always look back and see how she felt at certain moments in certain years of her life. Memories are everything to me. I want to experience them all again as if I was really there. The smells the sounds etc !
Just watched this movie for the first time. I’m so impressed by the script and how the actors act it so naturally. This movie made me laugh and cry, loved every bit of it.
I watched this movie in Santa Monica in 2004. I cannot believe how fast 19 years went by. Just like in the these movies I look back every 10 years and think reassess my past. Love this movie.
I don't think you ever really stop loving people (there is always a connection) but i think it is important to try and forget them so you can properly move on and live in the present and not the past 🗝️ xxxxxxxxxxx
Return 2 Innocence I don’t think you necessarily forget people either. Like, it’s not like people just forget their exes once they date someone new. It’s more just that the loving feelings you had for them fade. Maybe you still “love” them in a distant sense, but you lose the more immediate “loving” feelings that you used to feel for them. I don’t think I’ll ever forget people who have come into my life
I am not sure about their beauty. But, if we like them very much, then YES , we can't find a replacement because we tend to look for them in everyone. Of course, we will never find a replacement because everyone is special in their own way. It is just a matter of whether we like their uniqueness or not.
When it’s time to “start looking” it’s also time to end the relationship and stop wasting both of your time, if you already decided it doesn’t have a future
Well, this movie makes me believe in love and it's human nature. Whenever I am led to believe otherwise, or try to put it on a pedestal, I wish I am reminded of the ephemeral nature of these fleeting moments we could cherish.
I relate so much with Celine. You can never replace anyone, all you can do is live day by day and remember those little things and qualities that you one time spent with
The acorns and ants are beautiful in her eyes, like the people she has loved, not because of their inherit nature but because of hers. Love exists inside not outside of you.
I accidentally caught this film on HBO and had no idea what it was about. I was shocked at the length of their conversation, but I was glued to the scenes because they all sounded so familiar. This is other people's typical travel talk.
I really like the ending of this film. He is supposed to take a cab to the airport but he never does it...she asks 'you're not leaving are you'...and the he just shakes his head...end of movie...terrific!
A simple truth in life which everyone tries to overlook in the hectic life....LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL FOR THOSE WHO ACCEPT THE woes and WOW's with the same heart....The rest is Life ahead ....

Finally i got to watch the whole trilogy, it became one of my favourite movies of all time. So wise and so sublime. Just two people talking. I loved how they look at each other eyes in Before Sunrise and how they accepted their experiences and how they enjoy the sudden meeting. Finally, i was a little bit worried at the beginning of third movie, that it’s going to be „too forced” but it didn’t happen. Before Midnight is also wise at it’s own way, describing the other part of relationships. I will watch those movies every now and then.
It may just be because I’m a guy and I view the story subjectively like the rest of us, but I believe that all three films are told with Jessie as the narrator and the one living out these memories of them. Much like his book idea he had eluded to earlier, he has these three polarizing moments in life revolve around Celine; when they met, when they see each other again, when we’re shown her telling him she no longer loves him. The first film begins with him in the frame on the train, and for the ending of the third I couldn’t help but feel that the story was being filmed through his perspective. Or it could be possible that all this is played through Celine’s perspective of what her lover meant for her while she was young and full of life. She does tell us multiple times that she feels as if she’s living in a dream or a memory, which is why I find it plausible for both to be true
The first one is very pretentious and fake. The second and third are more realistic and we get to see the true bipolar, depressive, and selfish personality of Celine.
Love love love this series!! Wow! 2004?!! 16 years! Wow!! The third perhaps not as much as the first two, may be? I need to watch the third again, maybe I’ll like it a lot too now. But the first two blew me away! They did an amazing job!!! Will always be at least some of, if not the, best roles of their careers I think!
Notredame men that was so beautiful... so sad it caught fire. Both of their story turns out to be true. Germans tried to destroy it and allies came to save it, but she was right as well the church is long gone after the 2019 fire. I love this trilogy.. beautifully done!
I haven’t seen “Before Midnight” Yet, but this second one just hit different. Probably because I’m closer to my thirties and life has slowed down, thus making this second film more relatable. exactly why it's so good
Cuz its not rom com which is unrealistic. Even many rom dram tends to be unreastic. This is as real as it gets in romantic films.
The writer/director is one of a kind. I met him once in New York. He’s just like this. He’s exactly like the inexplicable quality in his movies.
I only liked the first movie. The other were good but didn't feel as natural as the first.

Very interesting observation. In the third movie they walk long distance to the hotel, an even slower form of transport
incredible, could be a great way to analyze the movies! because they travel so much
I've never notice that. They travel slower in every movie. Good observation.
And in each one they become more alone and intimate. Train with strangers. Boat with less strangers. Limo with 1 driver. Family car with sleeping twins. Then finally on feet alone.
How can people act so naturally?
Aakash Kumar They both said it's really hard to do.And there is NO IMPROV.
They said. They didnt choose to act. They jusy had tO BE
A lot of practice!
I do think it has a lot to do with the director in this case
They also wrote their own parts, a bit. Each had input on their characters and there's a bit of themselves in it. It feels intimate because it is.
Who else is here in 2024? Let celebrate this wonderful movie through time. We probably all had similar moments to this movie.
Who cares what year people are still watching this.
