What a seriously cool project. The art is by far the most photorealistic I've seen in speculative biology, and I cant imagine the hours that went into this. Curious Archive plays such a key role in showcasing projects like this to the right audience. I really wanna see this project through.
I really like how all the vehicles have their name emblazoned upon them, in an stylized manner. Naming them after Earth species, given that they were designed to traverse alien planets, has a nice thematic logic to it :D
"The volcano is erupting, we gotta get out of here! Stop monkeying around!" "On the contrary, more monkeying! More monkeying! DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF MONKEYING"
I see Barlowe influence in a lot of these speculative evolution projects. I guess he's like Ralph McQuarry in that there's a timeless influence from his work.
And yet some of their morphologies make no sense. The land-based cheetah-like creature is stocky and has no eyes in an environment where other creatures clearly get use from eyes. If this is meant to show off the artist's design and rendering skills, it does a good job of that. As a scientific endeavor, it's definitely lacking.

I would love to see a video on Pikmin creatures. That series was what I think first introduced me to the idea of speculative evolution. In pikmin 2 Olimar even catalogs the creatures he finds and writes about what roles they play in the environment.
Seconded! The Pikmin games were my first exposure to speculative biology, too. I loved how Olimar's journal entries talked about the relationships between different species and their roles in the food chain, etc, but Louie only cared about how to cook them.
From the artwork, it appears that the formanus caputs (the creatures with a skull hole), odellion (ape-analogues), anguis collums (rhino analogues), and citus mortems (apex predator) all appear to have eyes or eye analogues, so maybe CA wasn't completely correct in saying most creatures didn't have eyes.
I love this. With most speculative biology project, they usually either have every species look implausibly unrelated from one another, or have every species look like recolorations of the same body plan. But this hits the exact sweet spot, and definitely showcases some of the most plausible speculative animals I've ever seen!
The lifeforms of that planet range from animated geometric shapes to xenomorph looking creatures to designs so trippy they remind me of Disney's "Mars and beyond". How can I not like a planet that has all of those
Oh man😳…..what an amazing world/universe that has been created here! Just, absolutely breathtaking! It would be interesting if you did a video on Project:Tepui, a speculative lost world book by Andy Frazer, the same person who did Dragons of Wales. Either way I do certainly enjoy your videos.
When the artist makes these amazing stories and drawings, I often wonder what animal that where their common ancestors, like how we evolved from a 4 limed bony vertebra fish.
As an art project, this is phenomenal. As a biologically probable and realistic ecosystem? It’s…not the worst. Definitely not the best, but not terrible.
@@brainmind4070 plus a lot of these animals don't look like the random organic process of evolution over time but instead seems like they've been artificially crafted to suit their environment.

the creatures sure look unique. I'm no biologist, but the predator's anatomy I just can't make sense of, most just don't have clear ways they would even move their jaws. I think a lot could be added just from having at least one of each creature with their mouth open in each painting
I love speculative alien life like this i find it so fascinating and makes me think about what alien life might really be like...wish I could live to see it.
You might. There is a surprisingly decent chance that life exists somewhere else in our solar system. There's a few planets (including moons) that may have life, though in some it's almost certainly microscopic if it exists at all.
I know that these videos are really supposed to be educational and all about how the laws of nature are universal, but I feel like spec evo has the ability to go further than just making deer-dog-monkey-elephant aliens over and over again

It's the monster hunter problem, every living thing is megafauna on a mind bending scale with little thought toward how the ecosystem supports something that large. I get it in games, you can't fight a cricket sized animal, but in books and art there's no reason not to have fun with such things.
I was thinking the same thing. Why does everything have to be so gigantic? Also, some features of the animals don't really make too much sense outside of the "wouldn't it be cool if..." way of looking at things.
I agree on your point seems like they kinda just gloss over that. And While I’m not gonna assume I know what alien life forms may look like, all of these creatures seem oddly geometric instead of more organic shape of fauna we see on earth, hard to take seriously. Still pretty cool looking tho I will admit.
I feel like I should point out that because of the drag coefficient in water it's literally impossible for any whale-shaped organism to get longer than ~108 feet, so the last organism is physically impossible.
