Dry Gas Seal System Centrifugal Compressor

This video is about Dry Gas Seal System in Centrifugal Compressor
Before understanding dry gas sealing system , we should understand primary and secondary sealing arrangement.
So if you see sealing arrangement in compressor, you will find primary and secondary sealing stages are arranged in series.
First in board seal : The one on the compressor side is known as primary seal.
Out board seal: The one on the bearing side is known as secondary seal.
During normal operation the primary seal unit seal against full operating pressure. While secondary seal acts as a backup incase of inboard seal failure ( i.e. primary seal failure), secondary seal prevents gas leakage to atmosphere.
Barrier seal is provided between secondary seal and compressor bearings to prevent entry of lube oil into seal zone.

It is good video for beginners but needs some correction. In normal operation, Process gas will never cross process labyrinth seal and can’t leak through primary seal vent. In fact it is primary seal supply which flows through process labyrinth seal (80%) and remaining 20% leaks through primer seal vent which is mandatory for DGS healthy operation.

In normal running condition compressor discharge is very high and nitrogen pressure will be low , then there will not be any forward flow. Hence Primary seal injection is taken from compressor discharge . Pls comment by maintaining pressure 0.5 kg/cm2 higher than balancing line . Pls comment .

We have centrifugal compressors, but the type of seal used is the oil seal. Is it possible to make a modification to it and convert it into a dry gas seal?
