It's always refreshing to see such an honest and sobering video among all the "positive" videos in the vinyl community. I am, myself, also trying to keep the distance from all the audiophile and "buy now or cry later" mob and it is doing good to my mental health. Thanks Rich!
IMO, most folks worth knowing, see & appreciate frank & honest YT hosts like this. High praise to Deep Groove Mono! I discovered you 3-4 mos ago and after 2-4 vids, promptly subscribed and have viewed 98% of your vinyl vids!! So very good commentary 👏. This particular vid is Fantastic bud.
I'm new to your channel, loving everything i've seen so far! You're obviously a great dude, and youre giving me lots to think about with these "confession" videos. I can relate to so much of it. Also, you got me looking for nice copies of Six Pieces of Silver. Pretty jealous of that copy you picked up!
Always appreciate your authenticity and opinions. Particularly that you never confuse opinion with facts, which is so often the case in the VC and just life in general. Looking forward to more videos you are definitely not alone when it comes to trying to enjoy record collecting and limit anxiety at the same time.
hey there from berlin, germany ...... jazz pianist andreas schmidt here ...... and you do really great in being YOU and i like your channel and website and the interview with ken was super great. ..... sorry to hear, that you have some struggles in life ....... i wish you all the best and joy and love in life and music ....... i am sure you have much more friends and people who like you very much, than the few critical voices ...... stay positive and happy 2023 to you !
I’m enjoying your content and really happy to have discovered your channel. Everybody is different and has different opinions but that’s not easy to accept. It takes a lot of courage to go public with both your (controversial) opinion and your personal struggles. Kudos for sharing your journey, all the best and please keep up the good work.
Thank you for acknowledging that creating content and being a creative individual (an artist) takes effort, and yes, I suppose it takes courage too! Being a sensitive person, I try my best to not let negative attitudes and cruel people bring me down. These people are a part of life and I do not want to let that prevent me from creating.
@@dgmono For all of us that have sought & used YT for near 20 years for furthering our knowledge of the infinite subject matter from repairs to collecting to science & physics to history, we truly understand & appreciate the actual amount of work it takes AND can indeed empathize with every point, pro & con, you shared. UNDERSTAND(!) & appreciateyourself that those 100s/1,000s/10,000s of us that regularly & repeatedly watch a host's efforts over weeks, months, years VALUE & ENJOY & are THANKFUL for the particular YT host irregardless [or is it regardless? ; )] of natural human traits & emotions. Glad to have again rediscovered your vids this evening. 👏👍💯
I share a lot of similar issues as you, so it's nice to hear, and appreciate your openness. And this is a reason I don't have a youtube channel and post.
Good to see you back, looking forward to future posts discussing the music. If they're not family or in my house I don't really care what anybody says, trolls try to project their own weakness onto whoever they are trolling.
I wish it was that simple for me haha! I know it is that simple for a lot of people, yourself included. Sometimes I think the key to not letting the trolling get to me is to try to relax the "intensity" that I seemed to habitually approach the hobby with. If I can do that, I think it will be easier to look past or even laugh at the trolling. ☺ Thanks!
Yes I agree, I feel I fit the typical classification of audiophile and collector. Within those classifications, of course there are many different ways to approach each hobby. I'm grateful that I get to share my journey and the way my approach has changed over the years.
nice sentiments, can appreciate the various points you made. Negative stuff on the internet in inevitable. You just have to nod and ignore. Send a smiley face as a reply. That's what I would do. Keep up the good work. Also, you are so right about how video makers raise the anxiety by comparing this that and the other. It's a waste of time imho.
I think that is a great suggestion, responding simply and positively to trolling ☺ I just recently decided that the comparing thing is fine, I don't think there is anything wrong with it, I just realized I don't necessarily like the idea that, in choosing one over the other, I am in some way invalidating the choices of people who prefer what I do not. That's the part I decidedly do not like about it. Also, it just takes time, money, and effort to keep buying the newest reissue of an album and compare it to what I already have, especially in most cases where I'm 100% satisfied with what I already have!
If you no longer make comparisons between different pressings, then consider yourself cured. 😂 I know what anxiety is. You have to relativize the importance of youtube. Which is little or none. I don't have a channel (well I do, for photography, but if you go there you won't understand...it's in portuguese and it's made for a completely different purpose) I'm not interested in followers or views. If you like making videos talking about music, it's when you think about your videos that you should take pleasure and give importance. Not the opinion of the people, which, as they say here in Portugal, are like the hole in the ass, each one has their own. 😂😂😂 Do you know why Pitchfork doesn't have a comments section? They didn't have the money to pay so many psychiatrists.😂😂😂 I'm going to finish with a reason for you to be anxious, are you ready? I only use digital.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment! Yes I agree, "UA-cam", which is a part of the greater social media empire, does have little importance. I do, however, love a lot about UA-cam, it's a great source of information and entertainment. That said, I consume a lot of great content i.e. art here and I think it's important to take the good with the bad and, for someone like me, to not let the bad bring me down. PS: I have a special affection for people who only use digital haha ❤ PPS: I love your 2001/Kubrick avatar 💯

Thanks for puting those words together. I feel the same way, but i didn't know how to express it!

Good to have you back, Richard!
Happy 2023!!
Glad to hear you're doing well. Thank you for being open about the struggles you've gone through...it helps us all.

Have always appreciated your opinions, energy and honesty Rich.

Thanks, Matthew ☺ I agree, RCC has ended up being just as much about life as it is about record collecting.

Thank you, Andreas! I appreciate your words of encouragement, it's a good reminder to continue to try to focus on those who support me. ☺
I missed this series...thank you for sharing...it's refreshing to hear people speak on this side of collecting

I have consistently enjoyed your content and honesty and attitude. I appreciate your POV.
Great to see you back! Thoroughly enjoy your vids, and looking forward to more.
Thanks for speaking out. You sound just like me...🙂

That's awesome man!! It all really isn't worth it.. Just enjoy!!

We all need R&R from our R&R.
Really appreciate your confession videos. Nice to see honestly and a growth mindset. Have a peaceful year. God bless
Keep up the content. Really enjoy it.
You’re awesome, keep making videos
We are all part of this, you are an Audiophile, or a music lover, or a collector and mostly a bit of all three. We all have to balance this.
Yes I agree, I feel I fit the typical classification of audiophile and collector. Within those classifications, of course there are many different ways to approach each hobby. I'm grateful that I get to share my journey and the way my approach has changed over the years.
I have the same struggles.
You're not alone!

My email is in the video description, feel free to reach out!
Thanks, I‘ll do that when I find the time :)
