In 1988, Duk-Sun (Hyeri), Jung-Hwan (Ryoo Joon-Yeol), Sun-Woo (Ko Gyung-Pyo) and Dong-Ryong (Lee Dong-Hwi) are high school students and Taek (Park Bo-Gum) is a go player. These five people have been friends since they were little kids. They all grew up together and are neighbors to this day. Their families are also very close to each other. This series could have run a long time.. but the production ended it beautifully you just want to watch it repeatedly.. it's the most heart-warming Kdrama I'ver seen..

I still laugh and cry as if its my first time its full of emotions and portrays family love in the most healthy warm way yet shows the vulnerability and realness in their lives and its hilarious and well plotted
It will always be my favourite kdrama

You know, Bo-gum(Taek)'s real mom passed away so earlier. That's why he cried even in reading script. :((((
it's because he lost his mom when he was in the 4th grade and he's reading that line in the script where taek says he misses his mom everyday. =(

Thankful with the spoilers, I wasn’t very brokenhearted of the ending. Lol. But the cast really got me. I felt like Im a part of them. The ending hit me so hard. I was nervous also while watching bora and sunwoo’s wedding like Im a part of their family.lol great series, great story and great cast as well. 👍🏻

열어보니 혜리는 덕선이 자체였다.
혜리 보검이 빼고는 첨부터 다들 연기 전공하면서 대학때 선후배, 스터디하고 오고 가다 본 관계라서 덜 어색하네.
Watched the whole drama three times and I still love it so so much.
The whole cast are so talented, it made me laugh, teared up at times. It has beautifully portrayed the meaning of family, friendship, and most importantly phase of people life.

I've always delayed watching this kdrama because idk but now I just finished it and feel sooo sad it feels like I'm also missing my youth and I'm just 23😅 really recommend watching, i love the story and the message very heartwarning it feels like you become part of the neighborhood- so wholesome❤ it makes you want to treasure every moment and reminds us that time is fleeting so lets enjoy every moment with the ones we love😊❤

While he's a sensitive person, his real mom also passed away when he's in 4th grade.. But he didn't cry while practicing, probably bec he tried to hold it. It's so sad. Those guys laughed probably didn't know that fact yet
+frieswithmayo right. no one knew about his mother's passing until he was directly asked about the relationship with his mother during the interview on "youth over flowers"
tbh I don't think it's common for someone whose mother has been dead for over 10 years to tear up everytime the word mother is mentioned..... he is just a real crybaby, mother is just a special tear jerker for him, but he cries bc of thousands of other things like everyday (see youth over flowers)

I just wish they’d do another series in continuation of year 1988.
May God forgive those who feel REAL hate for Bogum / Choi Taek or Jungwan / Ryu Jun Yeol because of the ending of this FICTION, they are just excellent actors who did their job.
Ssangmundong squad are all friends in real life plus 2 of them are dating and i'm sure none of them would tolerate anyone who hurt one of them. Hateful words and thoughts can hurt for real. Please don't make them feel ashamed of their fandom, whoever is your fave.

Dang. I always knew Park bogum as a rising actor but never watched his drama till now with Encounter. He's such great actor. Been watching a bunch of his reply 1988 clips and came to this one. wow he's such a deep and emotional person. So many actor and famous people just want to maintain some image but he is different and is true to himself. So sad to see him react that way but so great he has such a supportive group
I met him at Encounter and I found him an excellent actor, very emotional, very focused on the character
