But there she's mistakenly talking about when he deployed to Italy which was functionally under the Operation Enduring Freedom but didn't directly have anything to do with Afghanistan. Internet is unclear but likely they augmented base security in Italy.

He decided he could serve better in Congress and make a difference on a larger scale. It's pretty rich to claim you know how another person should serve their country better. Walz's decision to retire and run for office was his way of continuing his service. Everyone's path is different, and his 24 years in the National Guard, including reaching the highest enlisted rank, demonstrate his commitment to serving our nation.

His DD214 lists his retirement as E8, Master Sgt. You are correct. Thing is, Walz knew these were fibs and exaggerations, and kept telling them to advance his "aura" for political gain.
With people like you around that aren't worried to spell Sergeant properly, what could go wrong. He was a Command Sergeant Major when active and then retired as Master Sergeant, and I agree, there is no record of him provided that he served in an active field of battle, so long as you and I want to tell people to get their facts straight.
And if that doesn't work, one can always fall back on "suckers and losers."
So, JD Vance spent 4 years on active duty as a US Marine and deployed to the Iraq War in 2005 (with a gun). In 24 years of National Guard service, Tim Walz spent 3 years and 3 months total active duty time and never even deployed to a forward area (with or without a gun). These are the facts and they are undisputed. BTW, JD never LIED about his rank, either.

As a vet, I don't care that he retired just before the deployment-I never want someone next to me whose heart isn't in it. In battle, it's crucial that everyone is ready to give it their all. My real issue, not just with him but with any fellow service member, is when they push this 'weapons of war' nonsense. The only two types of people who read the Second Amendment and think it's about hunting or the government's right to have an army are the deceitful and the foolish. I get that he might be pandering for votes or that, in his old age, he's become less courageous, but regardless, as a service member, he knows the Constitution's purpose is to hold fast, stop, or fight a tyrannical government.
Check out when he retired and when deployment was announced. I’m sorry. There’s no there there. Check it out.

The Stolen Valor accusation is because Tim Walz was promoted to Command Sergeant Major just before he retired, he was told he would lose that status and go back down to what he was before the promotion if he did retire. Over the course of the last 20 or so years he has used that title to say he was something that he wasn't (Command Sergeant Major) Its wrong if not illegal to claim you were something that you were not in the military. That is why the accusations of Stolen Valor are being made.

I've carried a concealed pistol for years, including while the US was at war in Afghanistan. By Jessica's logic, I carried a gun at war.
Serving 25 years as a reservist and 25 years as active duty is a major difference. I did both, so I can break down the numbers. A reservist works 2 days a month and 2 weeks a year. So 25 * 2 * 7 would be his "deployed" time. Which would be 350 days, then the 1 weekend a month would be 25 * 12 * 12, which is 600 days. Totaling 950 days, that is just over 2 and a half years of service as a reservist. He was also deployed to Europe for 9 months, which is another 3/4th of a year, so a grand total of about 3 and 1/4th years in service. This is of course less time than the minimal 4 year normal enlistment.
It's disgusting to attack veterans like this. Just gross and shameful.

What he said about his involvement in the military is literally true. To say that you "carried weapons in war" also clearly implies that you saw active combat. It wasn't exactly "wrong" to word it the way he did, but it's unreasonable to act as though there is no exaggerated implication there at all.

If Walz was at risk of violating the Hatch Act, the deployment was irrelevant. Being in the military is NOT the same as being a civilian government employee. If Walz disagreed with the direction the US government was taking with the war, he should have gotten out with 20 years and not hung around four more years.

Walz has exaggerated his military service, which is an inexcusable offense to combat veterans. He is far from the first to do it, but veterans will point it out when it happens regardless of political party.
Nothing wrong to retire before war. Main problem is to implicate he had been in the war and he did not.
If Walz had been deployed to the Middle East during his career, he would have been in a conflict zone. That does not necessarily make him a combat veteran. In any case, deploying anywhere to Afghanistan and Iraq requires training in small unit tactics and firing an M-4 equivalent. The reason for that is that the war could come to anyone, anywhere, with the green-on-green attacks by Afghan/Iraqi soldiers and insurgent mortar fire.

According to Minnesota National Guard records, Tim Walz never completed required 2 years of classes/education to fully achieve that title. Tim Walz is just a retired Master Sergeant. He shouldn't be giving himself militaru titles he has never fully earned--this is shameful stolen valor on his part.

I’m a purple heart recipient from Minnesota. This is unforgivable but he has done much worse. This man is not welcome in most parts of Minnesota. I used to play at my friends house when I was a child and his dad was the officer in charge of the MN national guard. Tim is showing his stupidity by joining the anti democracy Harris team bait and switch campain and we are all sick of it. Lets wake up people and bring shame back.
