- Nikita Petrov opens up with c4 which is English opening. Morozevich counters with e5 and very rare h5 attacking g3 pawn immediately. Such line objectively can;t be good for black as their pieces are not developing. However in blitz you can't possibly be ready for this kind of side line and have to play common sense moves. It appears that Nikita's plan hasn't worked out really well for him.

Blitz chess (also known as speed or fast chess) is a type of chess in which each player is given less time to consider their moves than normal tournament time controls allow. Openings, tactics and strategy are same.
The English Opening is a chess opening that begins with the move:
1. c4
A flank opening, it is the fourth most popular[1][2] and, according to various databases, anywhere from one of the two most successful[1] to the fourth most successful[3] of White's twenty possible first moves. White begins the fight for the centre by staking a claim to the d5-square from the wing, in hypermodern style. Although many lines of the English have a distinct character, the opening is often used as a transpositional device in much the same way as 1.Nf3 - to avoid such highly regarded responses to 1.d4 as the Nimzo-Indian and Grünfeld Defences, and is considered reliable and flexible.[4]
The English derives its name from the English (unofficial) world champion Howard Staunton, who played it during his 1843 match with Saint-Amant and at London 1851, the first international tournament.[5] It did not inspire Staunton's contemporaries and caught on only in the twentieth century.[5] It is now recognised as a solid opening that may be used to reach both classical and hypermodern positions. Mikhail Botvinnik, Tigran Petrosian, Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov, and Magnus Carlsen employed it during their world championship matches. Bobby Fischer created a stir when he switched to it from his customary 1.e4 late in his career, employing it against Lev Polugaevsky and Oscar Panno at the Palma de Mallorca Interzonal in 1970, and in his world championship match against Boris Spassky.

He should played h4 after h5.. i often saw Magnus's games and he always prevent the kingside to be attacked or occupied by opponent's pawn.

@@johnmarvel8729 e4 Nh4 Be7 and black threatens to take the knight. Since the Knight is on h4, blacks pawn can't go there. Morozevich of course would play h4 if he could, but white is smart enough to prevent it
Qh1 is this legal? He should first play h1Q in my opinion.
It is legal.
Yeah, I thought you had to play the pawn to the queening square, promote it, and then press your clock. The pawn actually has to go to the last square. I recall a video online where a player was penalized (forfeited?) for not doing it correctly. I reserve the right to be completely wrong about this, however.

@@aleksapetrovic815 According to Chess.com, in a Women's World Blitz Championship (year?), a player was forfeited after she placed a queen on the board while her pawn was still on the seventh rank.

How many of you commentators have official rating over 2000? Because „genius Moro“ and similar crap tells a lot about your chess knowledge. He doesn’t see a fairly simple tactical shot Qf6 and g5. His endgame technique is questionable. I really won’t discuss his openings, weak opponent (who doesn’t deserve 2300 for that game) and his attitude.
He's still one of the most unpredictable and exciting chess players like tal and ivanchuk in my opinion! Of course you're right, his openings and moves are not sound but they dont have to be, they make his opponents think, and if the opponent tries to be complacent, they're getting crushed. I'm rated 2060 FIDE, nowhere near master level but Moros game is so risky and bold. Far better than a billion ruy lopez' we see nowadays :)
JiveJudd 666 I agree with you. He is entertaining and fun to watch without a question. But please people, don’t call him a genius or a „role model“ or whatever. He is the cockiest chess player out there. High demands, no respect, no ear for fans. I’ve seen young talents asking for an autograph and a pic and he declined it categorically. Once he learns to be humble and respectful, I might change my opinion about him. Until then, he is just a very good chess player and nothing more.

I just always looked up to him purely because my style emulates his, rarely draw.. either lose in 20 moves or crush someone lol . Mmm not sure about cocky. Pity to hear about him not being as humble as I originally thought. Probably because he is no longer part of the worlds elite. Up to him though i guess, whether he wants to play heavy najdorf/ruy lopez theory, or sack his queen every game and lose because his opponent can actually defend. Guess we'll see ! :)
No. I would beat his 2.h5 attempt and he would probably rage after the game 😉 To be a man, you need to respect others first. Maybe it’s just my motto, but I would never act differently. I cannot go to deep, but believe me what I say :) And yes, he used to be amazing chess player with a lot of intuition and tactical abilities.
