My question is who came up with the riffs and did you just sit down one day and play randomly and think “oh this sounds cool” and just mess around or did you actually just sit down and think the chords/ notes through.
Damn good song. I like the riffs, I’m gonna learn this song when I go to my next guitar lesson.

as a musician I can tell you: is a mix of both

Sometimes those just come into your mind while jamming and sometimes you just search for a riff your whole life.

Based on having learned this riff, I would guess it started with a general idea of what the riff sounded like, or while fiddling around played something cool, and then spent a while fine tuning it, getting all the right notes, deciding to change that note the second time through, switch up the strumming patter in the power chords, etc
