minecraft WAS an indie game. its not anymore and hasnt been since the aquisition of mojang by microsoft. implying they don't have that money by claiming they're still indie somehow is extremely weird, especially given the money behind mojang is a pretty big reason why people are frustrated by mojang's subpar implementation of some recent updates. saying they can do whatever they want with their game when they at least claim to want player input is also strange. if minecraft doesn't want to listen to its playerbase, then they shouldnt ask for player input.
Throughout the years the game has definitely degraded in quality and not because of the community. Microsoft has done a poor job at managing the game simply because they are trying too hard and falling short every time. They are failing at implementing fully thought out features and are instead fighting themselves with the implementation. Combat has been something that they know has divided opinions and instead of actually taking the time to come up with a fix, they've neglected it and just keep adding half of their ideas. Each update is just another wave of shallow content that barely adds anything of value to the game.
So, I started playing minecraft in Beta 1.8, I've really seen a lot of updates and I personally think the way the old updates worked was really great, I remember when 1.4 was released and how much beacons changed the way we play, or how in 1.5 everyone started building quartz mansions, or when 1.9 was announced and the entire community got split between hating it or loving it. Every update has a memory for me, but nowadays, other than 1.12, 1.14 and 1.16, it doesn't really make much difference for me, it doesn't have the same impact. But yeah, I completely agree with you about updates, I think that we need more small updates. But Mojang has to take their time for bigger updates. For example, they could add smaller features more or less like the how the secret friday updates were in the past (not with that frequency tho lol), maybe a new mob like a little bird, a new structure that just looks cool, a new boat variation, something like that, no new mechanics. And then eventually release a big complete update remaking a biome, adding a hole new biome or adding new mechanics. Also, great video! UA-cam randomly recommended this video and I really enjoyed it.
I don't really know what to think about the dev team at the moment. On one hand, yes the latest updates aren't very good and everything in them lacks more purpose in the game. The trail ruins are a interesting concept but the loot isn't worth it. Everything in the latest updates is something that not many people would actually do or use in a playthrough and makes the updates boring. But on the other hand, Minecraft is an absolute fantastic game and it could be difficult to add new things that change the game for the better, like trying to improve on something that is already almost perfect is very difficult. Or they could be scared of adding something that changes the game too much and the community would be in an outrage. But that already has happened. I do agree that the dev team should listen to their community more as I have seen some fantastic ideas from the community. Let's just hope they listen.
A wise man once said, "competitive players aren't toxic, gamers are toxic." Also working hard my a**. It took a year to add a tree and some sherds. If a single mod developer can add a whole new dimension in a month, a team of full time developers should be able to add 2 biomes instead of 1.
I understand that there's a lot that goes into game development. I also get that Mojang devs have to go through so much corporate bullshit just to get ideas out. But just a handful of blocks when they have an entire year to make each update? I don't think Mojang has to make some ground breaking insane update every update, nor do I want something tacky and stupid like copper or emerald armor, but I can't have sympathy for Mojang when they have such an exorbitantly long amount of time to update the game and they can only add a couple of things. I thought there would be more to 1.21, but I guarantee you that the few new blocks, the trial chamber, the breeze, the autocrafter, and the armadillo are all we're getting for 1.21. Which that's fine and all. But when you factor in the fact that they have an entire year to get it done, then it seems just okay. I don't want to hate on Mojang, as some nerd teenagers or man children on Reddit will complain if Mojang doesn't add 10 new dimensions and a 500tb boss fight every update, but Mojang has been frustrating with how they handled updates. And the way they baby and gaslight their audience is frustrating as well.

Microsoft =/= Mojang
This is true. Players have been wanting certain things for years, yet they never got them, even when they reached out.
@@userNULLthey own mojang, they have plenty of funding and resources
@@o_titan3874 okay, so why get mad at mojang when they can only work as much as they are paid?
@@userNULLbecause they are paid a lot. by Microsoft.
See this is why I always stay distant from the communities of the games I'm interested in. Things almost always go downhill eventually.
Mojang pretends they listen to the comunity, but everything the comunnity wants doesnt get added or they underdeliver immensely.
That’s one of the problems at the moment, the community is almost walled off from Mojang.

Minecraft being anywhere close to perfect is wrong. it's a great game but there's way too many flaws to have that
