I used to work on a steam train from Atlanta to Lookout Mountain Tennessee. It uphill ALL the way ! No way one locomotive can pull ten cars up that! People would ask me how we don't lose any speed. I would say SPOILER ALERT There is a diesel pusher behind the caboose that does most of the pushing with no trouble! It also can get us there if something breaks on these old engines -which it does!! They still feed it coal so it blows smoke and steam!! There is NOTHING like the sound of a steamer pulling a grade and never will be!?😊

I’ve been in logging before…they need a set out truck to pull the trailer out to the main hard paved road. Then let this truck take the trailer away. We used surplus US Army trucks bought at auction for the set out trucks !!
That would seem a better idea 👍 In the UK in the vegetable growing areas if they want a lorry trailer in a field they often have what we call a dolly, that a farm tractor can tow to pull the trailer, it's got an axle with wheels and a fifth wheel coupling on top.

Why my family got out of driving logging trucks. This is very hard on equipment, constant unnecessary breakdowns, all because the mills and the logging companies managing the block don't want to invest in proper safe roads. Can't make a living if your profits get eaten by repair bills.

Roads used to be built properly, but the logging companies who knew how to do it right were also smart enough to get out while they could. What was left in their wake is a cycle of "new business starts up, struggles to make a living, goes bankrupt. Another new business starts up..." They aren't able to stay in it long enough to get the necessary experience, much less the necessary capital to do it right.

Use to do this for a living, it was quite the rush at times but I’m an adrenaline junky so I ate it up especially going down steep grades with a loaded trailer on hard packed clay roads with minimal stone because the ground would just swallow it up so you literally hook the dozer cable to the back of the trailer and the dozer acts as an anchor slowly guiding you down… fun times!
