    Aloha! Thank you so much for your videos and explanations. I have a SEP IRA in Vanguard and start my first RMD this year. Since watching your videos I have purchased my first CD (15 months @ 5.60%) and today my very first T-Bill (3 mo.) and the purchase price is $98.66. The remainder of the cash is in Vanguard Money Market at a current rate of 5.27%. My wife and I feel very comfortable with our money completely out of stocks and into these instruments. I only hope that rates for savings stay above 4% but we will wait and see. Mahalo for your educational videos

    Thanks Jennifer for another great video! Just opened a rollover IRA at Vanguard, so this info is timely for me. Also as one of the commenters below noted, their default sweep account that my funds were initially deposited into-the Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund-has an SEC 7 day yield close to the 4 week Treasury bill (after expenses) and only an 11 basis point expense ratio, which appears to be considerably lower than competing money market funds. While Vanguard doesn't appear to have an auto-roll function for treasury bills and notes like some other brokerages, the yield on my sweep account/money market fund will make waiting a week to reinvest less painful. BTW, I saw after today's auction results were published at Treasury Direct, that the 8 week had a high yield of 3.69% and an investment rate of 3.76%. Not bad for 2 month government paper.

    I started buying T-Bills at Vanguard after watching one of your other T-Bill videos. I was stumped when there were T-Bills listed on the new issues page, but couldn't be purchased (no "buy" link on the left). I looked everywhere for an explanation and came up bust. I watch a lot of instructional videos, and I have to say you have excellent presentation skills-To the point, no distractions, and the important details are all addressed! FYI, if anyone is having trouble getting to buy bonds section of their Vanguard account, it’s because there browser is set to “Block cross site tracking”. If you turn that off, it will fix the problem. It might save others the trouble I went through to figure this out. :)

    Hi Jennifer , thanks for this video and very informative contents in general ! Fully agree that Vangaurd is matchless ! Extremely knowledgeable and responsive customer care at the same time with least expense ratios for funds . Their Money market pays 2.8% dividend as of now, based on the 7 day SEC yeild rate , which compounds every day and paid monthly , which is comparable (or even better) than the 4 week treasury rate . Since this interest pay out happens every month and gets added to the principal for the next month, the following month earns even more interest. You have secondary market options to trade bonds and CDs as well in Vangaurd. Fidelity customer care wait times are really long and there was no call back option as of January this year and hence I moved away from Fidelity completely. But that was just my experience. At this point, I have consolidated all my investments in Vangaurd and its going great !

    First video of yours I have watched. I like the simple yet detailed information presented in a direct format. I usually have to stop myself from skipping around on such a video, but the pase was good and you only said pertinent things. Therefore, it was easy to watch this straight through. I do appreciate that you put out there in the beginning about how you time stamped the video for people like me lol. I hate when channels try to BS to get the watcher to watch straight through or make 10 minute videos that only have at most 5 most minutes of pertinent info. Kudos lol.

    This is a great tutorial. However, is there really an advantage of buying T Bills over Vanguard money market? It seems like you’re only picking up 30bps or so. .003 x $100K = $300 and that’s only if you keep this going for at least a year because these yields are annualized. I don’t know, I guess it could be worth it. Seems like you need a bazillion dollars though to really make an appreciable difference in your finances.

    I like the Vanguard website. It’s easy to navigate. But it seems like transactions take longer than they should. For example, I sold some mutual funds. The “Settlement Fund” didn’t reflect the sell for 2 or 3 days. It should be instant in 2023.

    • @DiamondNestEgg
      @DiamondNestEgg  Рік тому

      That's because most mutual funds need at least one business day to "settle". Vanguard probably then needs 1 - 2 more days to do the transfer from your brokerage/ retirement account(s) to the settlement fund. I've had similar experiences.

    I had really bad luck when I tried this... I logged in to Vanguard on the auction announcement date and they had no t-bills available to purchase... maybe they are opening up the purchases early... before the announcement dates?... and then they are sold out? ... it's strange... I can't tell when the right time is to check for them... Vanguard seems to be going downhill...

    Would it be fair to assume that if the Fed raises rates by .75% on Nov 2, the yields on Treasuries would rise shortly thereafter pushing most yields above 5%? Or are there more complex factors involved that dictate how much higher, if any, the yields would rise? Great site BTW. Thanks.

    Once a 4-week T-Bill matures, do you have to place a "sell" order to get the money back in the sweep account or will VG automatically assumes that since it has matured, the money automatically comes back? And if that is the case, when will the fund actually show up?
    Say you bought the 4-week Tbill announced on Oct 4, the settlement date is Oct 11 (the money is debited from the sweep). Technically the T-bill matures on 11/7. Will the money credit on 11/8 or a few days later? Thanks for your feedback!
