    The place is amazing. The view is one of a kind. I'm from Bulgaria and support the restoration of the monument (i'm not communist). It will be a good museum but nobody from the politics care. The party that rule now doesn't want to be connected in any kind with communist and the opposition (the kids of old communist) support it, but only if they put the rules how the restoration will be done (they will hire their people and firms to make the restoration, one word only MONEY is what they care....) So that is the sad true about the monument, I have visited it this summer and was amazing.

      Yes, they should renovate it. It's a part of history.

      I am 48 now. When I was a child communism had killed millions. When I became an adult it had killed tens of millions. Now it has killed one hundred million - apparently. I expect that at this rate the number of communism's victims will be approaching the billions by the time I pass away. If true it will be catching up with combined tally of colonialism, imperialism and capitalism.

    • @huskytail
      @huskytail 2 роки тому +4

      @@aquilarossa5191 you must have been a bad student or lived in a communist state as even in Communist Bulgaria we knew about the Mao death toll, the concentration camps in Bulgaria and the Soviet union and the existence of some political prisoners during my time (and I am 43 now). Your lack of knowledge doesn't make the research of the atrocities of the communist regimes any less real

    Потрясающее место! Я сам родился в Советском Союзе, - глядя на эти кадры, я понимаю, что мы не просто страну потеряли в 1991-м, - мы потеряли целую цивилизацию.

    The vandalism physically hurts me to see. Like that beautiful panning shot of the tower, ending with some graffiti. It made a rage in my chest build up I could hardly believe. It's just so disgraceful. I can only imagine the karma of the person who did that. They deserve whatever comes to them.

    Nice video! The Bulgarian government should restore this to its former glory. An investment for the tourist industry.

      Linus Wärn good idea, but do you really think that the Westerns would allow such a thing?

    • @ts9749
      @ts9749 6 років тому +13

      Although the Bulgarian Socialist Party has made attempts to make the government fund its restoration, they failed. They even wanted the government to sell them the monument so they could restore it themselves, which also failed.
      Most Bulgarians, though, being anti-communist with all the western propaganda spread since the 90s, do not wish to (costly) restore such a powerful symbol of communism.

    • @dieselscience

      It was never in any 'glory.' It was never completed.

    • @uzogsi
      @uzogsi 4 роки тому +12

      @@dieselscience It was. It 'opened' in 1981.
      It fell in disrepair and got plundered in the 90ties.
      It became a pretty big tourist attraction after articles and videos, such as this one, and they had to put guards even for the safety of the people trying to enter it.
      UNESCO and EU are actually funding it's preservation and restoration.
      No matter what it represented once, it's a monument that deserves a better fate.

      They never will. Russia hates communism. Notice the fancy monument in the front is totally destroyed. Most likely from former communists being pissed and going there and destroying it cus they're angry at the government.
      Russia hates communism for allot of reasons. Mostly they were evil. But also even the people who like Communism now hate it because it failed them and ruined the country. Aka rich soviets who loved the star lost it all when the soviet union collapsed.

    Was the star designed to be viewed from close to the base or perhaps high above and looking at an angle? The elongated "tails" of the star remind me of how advertising is painted onto sports fields in that weird stretched way so they look correct from one specific camera angle, and of course the communist star did not have elongated tails like that. Pause at 11:49 for an example of what I mean.

    I hate what this monument represents but the drone shots really takes my breath away. Absolutely incredible. Nice work guys!

    WOW! Is it still possible to visit?

    • @ExploringtheUnbeatenPath
      @ExploringtheUnbeatenPath  7 років тому +7

      There are motion sensors, camera's and security now. When there's a lot of snow it's possible because security isn't going to walk for miles through the snow. When there's no snow it's another story...

      The Soviet Union has been gone for over 30 years. At least they produced some greatness, unlike anything going on in the decadent West today.
