    This is a fascinating VCR. The responsiveness of going between forward and reverse search is better than some of the broadcast VCRs I use. That is truly impressive.
    It's a shame the record quality it so bad. I imagine an overall recap could help, but who would want to deal with the mountain of wiring and risk breaking something?

      Yeah, I don't want to start digging into it for that exact reason. Playback is good enough, I have plenty of better models if I needed to record something. Though if I'm feeling adventurous, I may try and tackle the dead audio channel (assuming I can track down a schematic).

    These were also sold under the Emerson brand in the US. As a Mitsubishi authorized repair center we serviced these as well as the Mitsubishi branded ones. Loose guide posts were a common problem.

    Hi probnot! I have the same unit here. It's confused. When I press play, it starts playing but the take up reel is running backwards. FF and REW are working properly though. The machine is immaculate.
    Edit;
    The new belt I put on was too slack and was slipping on the wheel, keeping it from engaging the load mechanism fully. After a head cleaning the deck is working great. I think this is one of those units that just got shelved after the belt broke. Remote was even stored without batteries so the whole unit is mint. VFD brightness is acceptable. Thanks for the inspiration to repair it!

    Swedish translation: "Dolby stereo sound MIT-SU-BI-SHI! up to 8 hour play time on half tape speed MIT-SU-BI-SHI! Mitsubishi the VCR you connect to your Hi-Fi system for maximal sound quality MIT-SU-BI-SHI! the VCR that can do more than display picture MIT-SU-BI-SHI!" ... mmm yes you can connect the VCR to your Hi-Fi system, but the VCR sadly doesn't support Hi-Fi video sound. But what a tank. Overbuilt is my favorite quality.

    Never had a Mitsubishi VCR as I have never came across one to grab. I do have 1985 13" Mitsubishi TV and it still has a very good picture for it's age. It was first vintage color TV I ever bought. Now I got one to many.

      I've never owned Mitsubishi VCRs either. Hope that will change someday!

    I also tracked down and aquired the VCR model of my childhood in South Africa in 1982. It was rebranded as a Lloyd's LVB-770, which is really a Sanyo VTC-5300P PAL Betacord. I remember all the sounds of the mechanism with it's 3 solenoids. I managed to get it going and it works reasonably well. It is actually a bit nicer than its NTSC version because there is not BII/BIII nonsense, no TV/VCR switch and it has a more advanced dual crystal colour processing circuit -- the Pilot Burst.

      Very nice! We had the Lloyds brand here, but I don't think I ever saw a VCR sold under that name.

      I put a new belt kit last year into my Sanyo VTC 5350. Same machine but with PAL and SECAM and a woodgrain cabinet. I also found the service manuals for it which are extremely hard to find. It runs great...

    I never knew that Back To The Future 2 had a VHS release that looked like E.T.! I need that LOL😆
    What a nice VCR! As a non-Canadian, I'd love to come across a Electrohome VCR someday just to have! Maybe some day...😁👌

      Just avoid the 2000s era Electrohome models, as they're just Funai inside.

      @@probnotstech I see! I think they also made Orion units as well around the same time🤔

    Had one of these many moons ago over here in the UK, but it was an OEM by Salora of Finland. The model number was SV9300 'De Luxe', and it looked pretty much identical to your Electrohome model.
    Salora used Mitsubishi as the OEM partner for their then line of VCR's, later switching to Akai (also a few Sanyo-based models). They were subsequently acquired in the late-eighties by ITT Nokia, mostly due to their research and expertise with mobile phone technology..

    Another great video! I guess their sales were low since I haven't seen many Mitsubishi VHS vcrs here in Greece or online

    Not sure if you noticed but the wires are unhooked to the audio head to the right of the video heads. Not sure if that could be related to the audio issue.

    • @probnotstech
      @probnotstech  6 місяців тому

      The white connector on top? I think that's for test points when servicing. I've seen something similar on other VCRs of this age. The audio issue seems to be somewhere in the electronics, since it affects the tuner as well. Hopefully I'll be able to find the service manual to confirm all this.

    • @justingalasso1850
      @justingalasso1850 6 місяців тому

      Oh I thought maybe there was a harness possibly unplugged, but yeah if it's dead on the tuner too it could even be something loose or a cold solder joint. I'd try wiggling things a bit and see if it does anything to the audio.

    The VHS sound quality of this VCR isn't great, even though it has Dolby NR. You should do a comparison video on what VHS VCR has good linear audio quality where you can't really hear the hiss.
