It'd be cool if you did a new F1 aero video, using footage from Spa. The floor edges, and the piece above the front tires were really moving some water spray!

I was thnking the same thing! I was hoping we would be able to get some good shots of the floor edge and other near ground aero working this weekend!

nice video! could you maybe explain more detailed what the purpose of these aerodynamic features is?

Like I said, the purpose it to have a small trailing edge at the side because there is a lot of crossflowat the tips.

Why do you do tangency only instead of curvature continuity? And also, why don't you round up the side surface instead of flatting it out with a fill? Super nice video man! Appreciate it

This would be good for starting engineering students. They can see where they will be in years to come.

Bro, I need your opinion on something, (I was about to sleep with this headache when) I had this realization about the RB19 concept.
The sidepod is an (combination of) upside down airfoil(s), and it makes perfect sense because old sidepods (very curvy on top) actually subtract from the cars total downforce in exchange to directing the airfoil to the diffuser and beam-wing.
I can actually picture in my head Newey wondering if the ground effect sidepods would work in these regulations and trying it out. It really reminds me of the Göttingen airfoils in particular, but look at the S1020.
If you flip the side view of it (upside down), you can see it's got some "bleeding channels" for the higher pressure on top to go down and a gurney flap like structure at the end of it.
The highest pressure region (the leading edge) is the sidepod entry which would explain the few losses in cooling.
That would explain why teams have many different sidepod shapes but none of them worked so far.

I'm very curious about how aston fell off so steep, yes others got upgrades but so did aston. Any idea why?

Rumors going around that their front wing was flexing too much and the FIA asked them to use a different one. They are bringing a new one that will not flex as much but will hopefully regain the lost performance.

Irrelevant question. What engine air intake size and form should be? How to calculate the needed crosssection?

Is it possible to do this in Fusion 360?

    • @ScottMoyse
      @ScottMoyse Рік тому

Yeah it's a shame it's not, since CATIA isn't exactly accessible. But the concepts taught are still useful. The main issue with Fusion 360 is the lack of equation curves, so generating the aerofoil profile in the first place is the hardest part. Then to get continuity across surfaces you have to model from surface edges instead of curves, so you would have to split faces to get the edges Martin is creating with curves in CATIA. The equivalent of the Multi-Surface command in Autodesk terms is Loft and in some cases you might use Patch.
