very strange and even idiotic calls from the AI, notably the immortals's AI.... odd behaviour, they could, and should, have won that bout without a lot of difficulty.
The luck will still play a major factor on early stage, since your survival depends on whether other players decide to attack your unit jointly or not.
The AI is bad at first because AI often treat their first unit as a scouting unit, I think. They settle a city with their Settler, then they explore the land using their Warrior. Without a Settler or a Warrior, I think their military unit assumed the Warrior role and went exploring that tiny bit of land, before they got serious about killing anyone That said, the AI is still horribly bad at war
actually they are the true winners because they used camo to hide while other's kill each other and start a secret farm underground so while other's starve and kill each other they will survive
Eetu The Hunter going underground is their secret technique and they grew potatoes that is why at the end of the game the screen faded to black instead of you have been defeated screen appearing open your eyes and get woke
The immortals should have won because they heal twice as fast, get a healing bonus for killing other units and have an advantage against all horse, scout and ranged units at this stage of game. Spawning in next to Persia when you start the game as anyone else is a nightmare on high difficulties, because they expand quickly and you are always weaker militarily through the AI research starting bias in a vanilla game. So it's a case of do everything you can to stay friendly until you catch up, then beat them down until they don't exist anymore
If they didn't get attacked until one, low health melee unit was left, they theoretically could've won. Unless I'm mistaken and they don't do damage on counterattack at melee, I'm not sure how that works and I'm too lazy to do some easy af testing.
I love the idea. Although it didn't look like everyone was automatically at war with each other which is something I would recommend for any of the deathmatches
The real question is, why do the melee units refuse to engage in direct combat with the (weaker) ranged units? Instead they dance around the barbarians and let themselves get shot...
Because AI in Civ 5 largely ignore barbarians unless it's a city state quest or there's a certain threshold of direct threat to them (which is apparently higher than "actively attacking you")
I feel like under normal conditions there'd only really be four serious contenders here, the war chariot, the horse archer, the elephant, and the immortal. First three because they're highly mobile ranged units, and the immortal because of its high strength, bonus vs cav, and doubled healing. Dumb AI doesn't help since it doesn't realize it can move and ranged attack in the same turn.
Senza32 No, melee troops destroy the ranged troops easily and the ranged units have no where to go, especially because they can only move one space by enemies
It looked like ranged units only shot at damaged units..? It seems they have some basic understanding of finishing off a low health enemy but that's kinda it.
I swear, the ai works in misterious ways. "We are armed with spears and the capacity to regenerate wounds faster. Lets neither attack nor defend and heal, but rather walk around the horse archers while arrows rain upon us. Glory to the god king!" *dies*

Ai always cheats in games
What we learned here is that if you run around randomly and let ranged units keep hitting you, you'll eventually lose.
🤯 mind = blown
This is a perfect display of how bad the AI is as combat.
The ai gets its strength from having unfair bonuses. The higher you raise the difficulty the more ai can just bang out cities and units with no gold or unhappiness penalties that a player would face.

Ikr. The ranged units had a huge advantage, since they could attack without taking damage, but the almost never attacked when it was their turn

Shoutout to the Immortals for completely throwing that fight at the end.
Ikr? They wasted two turns for no reason lmao. The AI in civ 5 is really stupid af at times
lol I'm not surprised the horse archers won, I am surprised the AI managed to use the horse archers to win when it came to a 1v1 vs immortals...
9:47 ... _and between the high mountains, upon the hot sand of Doomland, the triumphant horse archers still run amok to this very day_

A ten minute testament to AI stupidity
Persia had then locked in a corner and could have killed the last 1, but then the AI decided to be brain dead as usual
In the beginning I thought healing was off or something, but the AI is even stupider than I thought
I'm melee he's a range so sure let's run around and do FREAKING NOTHING
If the Persians kept attacking the horse archers at the end they would have won.
Looked like an insect fighting video: Most of them stood in their corner and didn't want to fight.
yeah
This actually shows how weak strategy and tactic skills of AI in Civ5
Not as bad with ranged units though.
The Zulu's strategies are pretty good

the poor battering ram
Strange AI offensive value. No strategy. No revenge. Not humanistic.
Best strategy on this situation is just put yourself on defence and then healing defence. While they lose health you gain health.
You will still take damage.
This can't work if you're melee units against ranged units but doing nothing is usually still the best option.
I'd like to see this with experienced players controlling the units. Then we'd really see who is the best rather than the luckiest.
Ben Coleman First ohne to attacks would always lose. So nothing would happen
The luck will still play a major factor on early stage, since your survival depends on whether other players decide to attack your unit jointly or not.
Pathfinder said fuck it, over the mountains we go
those fucking immortals couldve defeated the huns my god
I know lmao they just kept walking around them.
i was totally rooting for that battering ram
My God the AI is stupid...
Rumor has it that those horses still are wandering around that island
The only thing this video really showcased was how utterly stupid the AI is.
Boreasos especially the Persian one
Edward Elric the Hunnic one wasn't much better. Most turns it didn't attack.
Quantum Yeah but the Persians could have easily won if they kept on attack the Mongols
How could they attack Mongols as they were not in the game?
0:30 Shoshone pathfinder used Teleport!
They just went to the moon right away XD
fuck this shit i'm out
Never realized how dumb the AI is. Persia should have won this game easily.

was almost expecting the barbarians to win, seeing how everyone just ignored them
i like to think they were all looking for the barb camp so they could get a settler lmao
I really wanted to see the battering ram win..
Peace and just standing there winning would've been cool... but i guess their Penalty on Defense (33%) made them too weak on melee defense...
That was very painful to watch
If the immortals attacked instead of walking it would be ez win for immortals

Lol

Watching this stupid AI almost gave me cancer
Super smart AI... focussing the Elefant in the room, before he gets Nukes and destroys everyone with it...
This new battle royale looks good.
The immortals could’ve won if the AI wasn’t stupid
if the ai wasnt stupid they would keep horse archers out of immortals range 100% time
That poor battering ram
for a second i thought barbarians would win
Pathfinder has found their own path.
AI enemy units have less combat use than using a worker as a decoy lmao
Kind of an example of how bad the AI is at times.
At first it looked like the barbarians were going to win I also liked how my two favorite AI were freinds intill near the end
those guys throwing axes wont even get attacked by any unit.

actually they are the true winners because they used camo to hide while other's kill each other and start a secret farm underground so while other's starve and kill each other they will survive
Ahmad abdal But... what did they farm? And how did they get underground?
What they had was basically a scout. If there's nothing to scout, there's no use for it, so the AI just deleted the unit.
Guus Thijssen just what i thought after i commented that and i think thats what happened.... I just didn't want to admit it xD

8:00 Archers on horses, towards the end were picking out the weakest team that just had a battle.
Barbarians are MVP of this match :D
The music was MUCH cooler at 2x playback speed
The AI is so dumb lol
Somehow the guy with the huge Elephants is one of the first to lose.
where in history did you see horse archers square off against elephants?
Bobby Ferg because horses are mobile and elephants are not easy to breed under captivity
Knight and Crow Still you would think he would last longer then the guy who brought a flipping bartering ram
John Bartholomew What where a guy brings a battering ram to an elephant fight?
why did you torture the battering ram like that?
Why don't the ranged units attack? There no tactical advantage to them moving around so much!
The AI does not agree with you.
