Do you have any memories of Night in the Woods? Let us know in the comments below! And if you want to see more mini docs like these be sure to mention it 😊
One the best indie games ever made. It will always remain in my personal list of top games of all time. It is ridiculously relatable. The music is killer. Some of the best dialogue. It truly is a gem worth remembering.
Thanks for the video! It really gave me happiness that you made a documentary about one of my favorite videogames of all time. It's a tragedy what happened to Hollowca and most recently to Benson. I really wanted another game from the creators😢
Love this style of mini documentary, and on one of my all time favourite indies too. NITW will always have a place in my heart, I played it when I had just moved out for the first time and was in a bad relationship dealing with a myriad of physical and mental health issues and i just remember it struck me so deep, reflecting feelings of bittersweet nostalgia and melancholy. I will always recommend this game, it is truly an art piece.
I played through Night in the Woods last July, and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. I went to high school in a small town - the kind where the football players are hometown heroes and everyone in power got their jobs on a handshake and a, "He's a hell of a guy!" - but I actually lived in the kind of small backwater village where every oldschool JRPG from the '90s starts out. When people think rural, they think of the kind of Main Street, USA type of town where everyone knows everyone, but in a place like this, nobody mingles; if your house is on fire, we'll kick down the door and drag you out, along with your baby, your cat, and your player piano, but for the most part, the best kind of neighbor is the one that says hi and keeps on walking. That might be part of where this one missed me, but even with my delightlful little cocktail of issues, the mental health stuff didn't hit particularly hard, either. That might be because they didn't dive into some of the ones I struggle with most, like PTSD - thankfully; I don't really need to relive all of that any more than I already do - but I wasn't really able to put my finger on it. I will say that I liked it a lot better than Celeste and The Cat Lady, which are often praised for similar reasons; I did at least feel that Night in the Woods handles mental illness a lot better than those did.
I think you covered the situation of Alec very well, unfortunately my first introduction to this information came at a very unfortunate time, and with a manner not so wonderfully worded as your brief account. Wish this was the place where I originally heard the news. It was during a video essay that quite abruptly changed to the subject of the drama, and was not so amicable to either side of the discussion, I watched that essay about a day after beating NitW, I love to watch essays of media I have either recently watched or beaten, especially those that have affected me to my core like NitW; (I played it blind around just over a month ago, its now my favourite game of all time, And I've played A LOT of games in my time, so its no short a praise!) as one can imagine, being made aware of this information really hurt me at this time, and still does now. I've looked into it myself, and also agree that its such a complex and sad situation, with so many sources and moving parts. I've been highly encouraging my friends to play NitW, and I have also considered in the likely scenario of which they love the game, how I will explain the situation behind Alec; I think I will recommend them this. Thank you for covering this subject with such tact.
Sorry for the double post, but I realized that I didn't give any actual feedback, and I don't know if you get notifications for an updated comment, because my "channel" is just a clip that pig with a baker's hat from Wand of Gamelon saying, "It's AWFUL". I do like this style of video, too, and would be interested in seeing more of it, if that's what you'd like to make. Even if a game doesn't particularly resonate with me, it does interest me to see why it resonated with others, not to mention that gaming history is important and overlooked.
Great mini-doc, I never actually got around to playing this game, the art style kind of threw me...and then the controversy around it I don't know if I can take it for what it is supposed to be anymore

Any documentaries (short or long) on iconic indies is appreciated.

It really is a shame about everything that's happened!

I will watch the F out of this.
Awesome! We will make the F out of this if that's the case 😁

Thanks for watching and sharing these thoughts!!
Trust me. Try it out. You won’t regret it.
Spoilers? I still gotta beat this game. I gotta be pretty close.
I try my best to avoid spoilers, but it's impossible to talk about the game without hinting at some things.
