The lane departure alert has got to be the most annoying alert ever put on a car. If you need this to drive you have no business behind the steering wheel of a car.
Same with cruise control assist. It slows you down way before you get close to a vehicle a ways in front of you; and it DRASTICALLY slows you down super quick. I think it’s dangerous
I know. It's more dangerous too. I've driven on roads where lines are randomly drawn between them or drawn over, and the car has almost crashed me into a truck and into a guard rail multiple times.
Just turned off LDA a couple of days ago. Every time it kicked in I thought I was losing control of the car and it was an instantaneous adrenaline rush (and I don’t mean in a good way). Thought I would have a heart attack. Turned off ACC a while ago. Both of those features defaulted to “ON” when I bought the car six weeks ago. They should have defaulted to “OFF”.
😂😂😂.....just stumbled into this channel.......love da jokes......love da content... I'm really a Honda/Nissan guy....buuut.....love this channel!!! U get sooooo much more than the title gives. Keep at it Jeff👍
Just what I was looking for, thanks for sharing! Just bought a 2022 Mazda 2 Hybrid which is basically a 2022 Toyota Yaris Hybrid with mazda stickers on it so this worked perfectly.
Thank you, sir. This was indeed frustrating. The whole first leg of my trip I couldn’t turn the damn thing off. And I tried multiple other online sources that claim to know how to do it but didn’t actually. Such a relief to not have beeping every time I change lanes with nobody around in the world. Grateful.
You should definitely use your turn signal to change lanes when there are other cars around. But when there are no cars around your car should not be but you every time you switch lanes or come close to the white line on the side etc.
And while I’m at it, as if anybody is reading this, it’s truly amazing what difference three psi in the tires makes. Feels like flying. Mileage must be at least 5 miles per gallon higher this way.
Thanks so much, this video very helpful, I shut off my Camry LDA, I didn't like LDA system, I was going to dealer for shut off but your video help me. Great video.
Did you ever figure this out, or isn’t it possible to turn it off completely? I’m looking at a new XSE but if there’s no way to permanently turn that off, I’ll buy something else. That’s how much I hate it.
As far as I can tell, you have to switch them off every time you start the vehicle. I’m going to find and buy an older car that doesn’t have these features because they’re just unpleasant.
@@willowtreecottage8233 in a perfect world nobody would ever fall asleep or become drowsy while driving. but it obviously happens. technology can help.
Thank you. I just bought a 2025 Camry while driving it home I made a turn and it snatched the wheel away from me and locked up. I spent the next morning trying to figure it out.
Thank you! I combed the manuals and they just say to push the switch. Nothing about holding for 3 seconds. So, as you demonstrated, all you get from a push is a toggle of the Lane Centering.
As an advanced driving instructor I would turn it off. What people don't know is driving in the center of the lane is illegal in many states and dangerous. Adjusting lane position based on risks on the left or right side of the road is an advanced technique usually only motorcyclists use. Yes, in some states driving in the center lane position could get you pulled over.
On our 18 Highlander, I would like to keep the lane departure active, but simply turn-off the audible beeping. My Lexus vibrates the steering wheel which is much less annoying.
Thanks, Jeff. Good tip on turning off Lane Assist. I find with my new 2022 Venza that the car does not seem to stay centered in the lane on the highway but rather hugs the passing (dotted) lines when I'm in the right lane. Maybe something the dealer should look at? Only have 400 miles on the car
Does LDA stay off when you turn the car off/on again, or does it automatically turn back on every time you start the car requiring you to manually disable it again?
The Lane Assist on a cars is a great driving test. If you are a good driver and staying centered in the lane you won't hear or feel a thing from the system. Wondering from side to side in your lane and BEEEEP! you will get immediate feedback on your driving skill level. Oh. And if you use your turn signal when changing lanes as is required by law, you also won't feel or hear anything. Another driving skill level measurement feature.
Tried to turn this dangerous system off, but it reverts back every time I start the car. Can the 'steering assist' be disabled permanently? In the event of an accident, this can have legal ramifications, as can be argued it was Toyota who was steering & not the driver.
In my 2020 Rav4 XSE can I turn off the radar cruise control like you can on this Highlander. I get tired of setting it at the closest distance between me and the vehicle in front of me and then it slowing down when I get to close. I would like to be able to keep my speed at one speed only and have it slow down each time I get to close.
OK, now how we allow the Car to Keep RUNNING when we remote Start- My TRD PRO -2022 turns the ENGINE OFF when you open the doors! Toyota said they are THINKING about a software Mod, Have you heard anything?
can you leave the lane assist / lane center on and just turn off the audible beep? I know you have this ability on rav4 and venza but the option seems to be missing on the Highlanders? Thanks
i just got a 2022 Avalon Touring - I cannot turn off the steering assist (where it turns the wheel to get you back within the lines) this is even when the cruise control is off. my 2019 camry had the same feature and I could keep the lane departure alert on and turn off the "steering assist" so that it wouldnt try and turn the steering wheel. Am trying to figure out why on earth there isn't this option to turn that part of it off
Is it possible to keep it off by default? Cause every time I turn the car on it is on again. I use my car inside a port where there are no lanes and it gets tricked a few times.
Hi jeff. How to see the 'SINCE START' fluel consumption number in the MID. I can only find this light green status bar but no number is displayed for since start and i am not able to find it in any settings. Only settings are TRIP, TANK and TOTAL. Thanks
Tesla...never. too many accidents, too many issues recalled, too many errors still. They are not built to withstand accidents for the passengers inside the metal is very thin
Thanks Jeff. I'd worked out how to turn off the Lane Departure Alert on my 2023 UK RAV4 Plug-In, but it defaults to ON each time you restart the car. Is there a way to default it to OFF. Similarly Brake Hold defaults to OFF. Is there a way to Default it to ON? It's just a fag each time you get in the car to turn one off, turn one on, change to HV from default EV and then accept Multimedia. There should be Driver Settings to personalise to each driver's choice. None of these compromises safety as they are so easy to reverse if required.
That didn't help! Every time I restart the car, that damn alert is back. Just like the stop/start, it re-appears after each ignition start. I'm so glad the car is being collected by the hire company.
Great tip - do you have a tip on how to turn off the Auto Turn Off/Start Up engine feature that happens when sitting at a stop light ? I know we can do it with the 'A' button that is at the middle console, but I believe it just resets next time the car is started. I've heard of solutions that involved disabling fuses, but I would hope there are easier solutions than that. Thank you !
Put it gets re-engaged when you turn the car off. You shouldn't have to do this every time you get in the car. You should be able to disable it and leave it
Why did you name your video how to turn off lane departure and then talk about all kinds of other things. You could’ve told us how to turn off the departure in about 30 seconds.
SAD that Toyota is using this garbage annoying and DANGEROUS technology in an otherwise good vehicle. So what happens when these features Fuck Up? Or is it the ONE thing on a vehicle that can NEVER malfunction? I DOUBT THAT! So maybe it malfunctions and puts you INTO the lane of oncoming traffic! Or maybe it corrects you when you are diving into a clear lane to avoid a DEER!! :( Thanks for the video ToyotaJeff... not your fault, I know.
Why would you want to turn Lane Departure Alert off. It's supposed to be a safety feature. Unless it is going off a lot and is bothering you. All I have on my 2013 Camry is Bluetooth and a CD player.
It gives a lot of false alarms when not on a main highway. Like he said, it has to be clearly defined lines. Old roads with faded lines, it almost can't ever find them. Also if you're on a very curvy road, it doesn't always make sense to stay centered perfectly in the lane and it will beep constantly if you're taking a semi-straight line thru a slight s-curve, eventhough you're still in your lane, you can get too close to the line, still being safe, but the system thinks you're going to run off the road and beeps at you all the time.
Thank you!!! Finally someone who actually knows how to turn that dang thing off!
I find this and the auto break feature to be more dangerous than helpful. I’m driving the car. So when the car takes over it throws me off.
