  • There’s no jewellery tutorial this week, I’m taking you on a behind-the-scenes tour of my newly made over studio. I thought you might like to see how we store all of the beads in the shop and how we organise them so we can find them at a moment’s notice.
    For Mother’s Day this year, my family decided to give my studio a little makeover. As things do, it exploded into a major makeover and I’m so happy with it.
    Here's a link to the accompanying blog post: www.affordablejewellerysuppli...

      Thank you so much, Kelly for your kind words. Yes, I am super blessed to have such a wonderful husband and kids. My husband also helps me out with editing and other UA-cam related bits and pieces. I couldn't do any of this without him.

    O that looks good compared to mine right now!
    I had a fab little door name plate made Pink & perspex with "Lindas Beadoire" on it!
    Store a-z on shelves with just one gem - aquamarine or ruby or turquoise in each labelled transparent box which is big enough for at least 10 or 12 strands of chunky gemstones up to 20mm diameter. Using second boxes etc where needed. I have long boxes with a central rod to store ribbons or tiger tail, & other beading threads. They thread onto the rod & its easy to pull a length off. Stackers with seed beads in on shelves & findings in cases on shelves above desk. Tools in my toolbags under the desk.
    That was a lovely gift for Mums Day x

    They did an amazing job! I always admire those cupboards behind you. I'm new to beading, I started in January 2021. My dear Father-In-Law died in April of that year, and I was given his huge tool chest on wheels, which has a lot of shallow drawers. It was red, so I spray painted it light turquoise to match my craft room. I bought silver metal round spice containers from Amazon, for the beads, but I put the bottoms in the inverted lids, as many were very hard to remove. I just take the tins I need to my desk a couple of feet away, and put them back every night. I separate each bead by gemstone (I use mostly gemstone beads), then by color in each drawer. I also put in the tag from the strand they came on, which has the gemstone name and bead size on it. This way, when I put my listing on etsy, etc., I can tell customers what the beads are. I use many unusual gemstones, and I can't always remember what they are, so this really helps me. I like having my supplies hidden in drawers or behind doors.

    • @The_Stylish_Maker
      @The_Stylish_Maker  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much. Yes, they did an amazing job. I had thought about those round containers but love the square ones as they fit nicely together. It sounds like you are doing an amazing job of organising your beads too. Everything needs to be labelled for me too, otherwise I forget. We actually initially put the doors back on the shelves behind me, after we painted them, but it was too hard to get into the corners as there's not much space so we removed them again. I just hope we don't have a major earthquake and I have to put them all back!

    Thank you for the tour! What a precious gift from your family! While watching your other videos, I had wondered about your storage system. Glad I found this video. I belong to a couple of bead subscription plans and I’m to the point where I have many beads in bags and boxes which is not a good storage system. This video was inspiring. Yes, would like more of these and would also like to know how you store your personal jewelry. You have many pieces you’ve made for yourself so how do you organize/display them all.

      Thank you so much, Lynne. I'm glad you liked my studio tour. Yes, before the shop, I used to keep my beads in plastic bags and it really doesn't work. I also found that those plastic containers with compartments don't work for me either as the beads are hard to get out. They only work if the beads are really large.

    I'm completely out of space on the one set of shelves I have, where I keep most of my supplies, and I really do need another set of shelves. I have the space for it, IF I find a space for a chair that currently sits in that corner, but I can't bring myself to toss the chair because It's an old wicker chair my mother had, and I drove 1000 miles after she passed to collect it along with a few others. My house is quite tiny, so there's just so much room for stuff. Anyway, for now I'm crowded. I keep most of my 11/0 seed beads in teeny storage boxes inside larger boxes intended for storing diamond painting beads. I don't do diamond painting, but found the storage boxes work well for 11/0 beads, which I use for bead weaving on a Jewel Loom. The 8/0 and 6/0 beads (that I buy way too much of just because they're pretty) are kept in clear plastic test tubes in a test tube rack (25 tubes per rack). Those I keep on my work table for lack of another space (I do need that shelf!) My larger beads, glass and natural, are kept in plastic boxes that have multiple compartments. I have larger tubs with lids for my findings, wires, cords, and all the jewelry I've made that I don't know what to do with! I keep all my tools in a plastic tool box (which oddly enough I'm very attached to) on my work table. It all may not seem very organized to people who see my work room, but I do the best with the space I have and I know exactly where everything is.

    • @The_Stylish_Maker
      @The_Stylish_Maker  11 місяців тому +1

      It sounds like you have everything under control, Deborah. Sorry to hear about your Mum. I understand why the chair is so special. Maybe you can find another corner for it. We also have a tiny house and I have over 13,000 different products in a very small room. I find the plastic drawers with the little boxes inside works well for me but if I wasn't selling my stock they would definitely be organised differently.

      Hi Antonia, at the moment, I don't sell my jewellery because I simply don't have time to make jewellery to sell. We have been discussing this in my paid membership group and I'm thinking I will probably do a video on it at some point. In the meantime, there are a pile of sites online that you can use, however lots of people go to artisan markets as well.
