I soak the cascadura in white vinegar before cleaning
to get rid of the smell and sliminess. Using a pair pliers
makes it easier to remove the two bony protrusions.
Natasha,
Only yesterday I cooked 8 of those kind of fish, and served it with rice and curried pigeon peas, and today I'm watching this video.
I used vinegar and salted water to scrubbed the fish and after it's properly cleaned, I soaked it in lime juice and water for awhile, then rinsed, seasoned and left overnight to marinate.
By the way, thanks to your mother in law, she did a wonderful job!
You know I don't eat this type of fish... I.don't like it at all.

I love Cascadura/Cascadoo, especially with dalpuri roti, or rice and pigeon peas; I've always cooked the fish and peas separately, because I don't like it when fish shells becomes loose into the peas. I know many people who cooked the both together.
I scrub mine as well 👍🏽👍🏽
These are family to the catfish (In Trinidad we also call them armored catfish). They are not necessarily bottom feeders, they do eat mostly dead fish and they are not carrion eaters. They like to live in muddy dark water that has a lot of moss and algae.
I have a question! When I lived in Trinidad I used to visit friends in Chaguanas on the weekends and I would often see young kids standing by the Caroni on the highway holding up these big fish with huge round, flat scales for sale. My Trini friends all said that these were Cascadoux but in this video the Cascadoux are so much smaller. What were those big fish the boys were selling?
👍👍👍
This fish is easy to clean I do it all the time
That is definitely not how you clean it. She didn't even know how to cut the fins off.. almost cut herself
Watching this lady fight with these fishes gave me anxiety.
What are you scrubbing with
I always find the local variety is much sweeter. The bigger fish have a husky flesh.
Hi Natasha another way to get it clean is you wash it with cooking flour or baking powder.. well that how my mom dose it plus she use lime too...
Does anybody know where I can get large quantities of this fish?
Hmmmm that I can't say hopefully someone in the UK sees this and comments.
Watching madam clean the fish please use sharp knife and even the the proper scissors your board is slippery but somehow she did manage to get over🙏🏽🌟
R d water hot water
Oh gosh I get scare how she using d chopper thank god she eh get cut, luv cascadu but never cook or clean it, those fat an nice, I does cyar clean fish d smell does make me upset dats y I doh cook it, dat a good mother in law , gosh d finish product have my mouth watering
How people could look at this and find it appealing...apparently it’s purpose wasn’t for eating...this is an aggressive invasive species of catfish.
It's like catfish, but more scales
1hr of cleaning and 5min of eating ...I'm sure theirs other eatable fish ....
Of all fish smh
One the nastiest ....bottom feeders ....forget it.
I suggest you get sharper tools and wear some heavy duty gloves
I love 💕💕 this cascadura will be cooking it tomorrow
