Who has a BBB? Other than making a custom machine in GX, but they did a brilliant job of balancing that by making sure if you gave it all AAA it would have horrendous acceleration and handling due to being overweight.

Honestly, the way this was written, it seems like the writers just saw "mercenary" as James' occupation and ignored everything else. In the main series, Galaxy Dog is predominantly a military security company, focused mostly on providing defense when an actual military force can't spare the manpower. After James had a son, he retired from active duty but still manages the company, and converted his fighter into the F-Zero machine we all know as the Little Wyvern, so that he could spend more time with his son while still putting his piloting skills to use. He plans to use the prize money to get his son a racing machine of his own. Here, though, he's an entirely different character outside of the Star Fox references, and hardly lives up to the McCloud name. If anything, his last name here should be Dengar (if you know that name and the amount of horse shit it wallows in, you'll know why). Admittedly, they do do a good job of writing this far less heroic version of the character, but it doesn't feel right for the character. I feel like they should have made a new character for this storyline, maybe have him be one of James' partners rather than using James himself.
Nice hint, the producers really mixed up both universes to create one good anime after all. I don't know if they'll mention Bianca City, if they haven't done it previously.

It seems a little out of character, however we don't really get much back story on James to be honest so maybe it is accurate. I came up with various theories back on the day about how the F-Zero McCloud was actually still also the Starfox McCloud but knowing that this is set about 200 years in the future and Starfox 64 is set around about the 1950's (earth time) then that wouldn't make sense. Although you could always fanwank on some time travel shenanigans or basically.... daylight savings being applied across galaxies... I should make a podcast about this kind of over the top in depth deep dive into games that are over 20 years old so liked minded weirdoes like myself can enjoy.....
More proof of my theory from about 20 years ago that F-Zero, Metroid and Starfox are all connected. Although the time that F-Zero takes place compared to Starfox is Tricky (the triceratops!)
