But the way that Itlaian singing has gone, it's more about screeching and whine than singing. But knowing your voice and how to make it thru stuff like this is what separates the men from the boys.
That's why I say we shall see. Very common for them to burn out. And I think the general climate in opera now is not kind to the developing voice. I am not disagreeing with you.
Yes, singing this piece half-way up a ladder looks makeshift and sounds accordingly precarious. I think any tenor, past or present needs to have both feet on the floor to sing this, let alone sing it well. A "gimmick" that dosen't work.
