Dont press both switches at the same time! Will short-circuit those batteries.

May I suggest to strip the insulation off long pieces of wire you use a utility knife and simply shave a sliver off, controlling the angle of the blade not to dig into the copper but merely skim the surface then pull off the insulation the whole length all at once ...
