- Another job where it should have been a routine process but I ended up spending a few hours down in the rabbit holes that didn't even exist.
If you work on these boards, make sure you've got a genuine 85W Magsafe-1, will save you time!
( Colour and exposure change at the end of the video in the 'fast forward' ending is due to finally having adjusted my microscope camera settings, something I should have done 9 months ago! )
Good work!
Thanks for the verification regarding the Magsafe.
Hello Paul always a rabbit hole or two isn't there? Glad you figured it out and hope to catch a live stream one day.
I having MacBook pro model 1286 it's frequently re starts and motherboard get too hot what will be the problem ? I changed the hard-disk now it's showing? Over the screen. Pls help me thanks.
What computer program are you using to look up the circuit board diagram.... And thanks for the video very insightful

another great success
Yes, thankfully; was feeling a bit down when I couldn't get that PM_SLP_S4_L to come up.

Paul, no one is perfect, you spend most of your time on pc laptops, it's easy to forget that apples machines are picky buggers.
Smashing repair paul :-D, liquid doing it's evil thing as always, louis has seen so much nastyness on apple boards, i'm amazed that people treat them so bad :-(.
Getting more Macbooks coming every week, balance may start to swing to Macbook as dominant soon, will be a nice thing because at least there's a lot more consistency with them and you have half a chance of fixing faults without taking the boards out.
Growing/learning/experience, dealing with the type-specific quirks.
Thank you Paul. Very helpful !
Nice fix!
Hi, nice video, i have a question what did you use to clean the motherboard after finishing?
I use IPA + toothbrush washing on to absorbent paper. If there is a lot of flux I will use the ultrasonic cleaner.
Hello, just a quick question. I had cleaned and repasted my macbook A1286 (Late 2018, Unibody 15"), after putting it all together everything is working, except charging and DC input. On battery power it works flawlesly, but when I connect charger, I got no green or amber light, the screen "flickers" in exact frequency (I think once in 1 second). Strange thing is, that it gets to know, that the cable is connected (battery indicator shows, mac os telling its powered, but no charging). But when I unplug battery the macbook wont turn on.
No water damage, only I had tried to pry the battery connector by wires, unles I realized that it can be flipped over and unplugged correctly.
I am asking, before I do more measurements:
- Could it be with the battery connector?
- I had noticed, that the DC-in port has lost all of the insulation layer over the years, could it be the problem that its connecting metal to metal? Yeah, tested continuity between gnd, V+ and this frame, but at Apple's you never know what is with what.
Thanks,
Regards,
Petr Sourek
Sorry for bothering. Wanted to be sure before I screw something. I had measured live motherboard for the first time.
So I had measured the Adapter_Sense, 3.4V, PPBUS_G3H 12.6V. Got to DC in, seemed ok, but then I noticed rupture in signal cable insulation, which probably got touched to case, shorting 1-Wire to ground. I might have done it, even if I am not aware. So pulled pin out, added shrinking tube, put pin back, used electrical duct tape to repair cut previous one and its working like a charm.
Thanks for yours and Luises videos and for OpenBoardView (y)
Hello, could you please tell me with software do you use for the motherboards? Is there a map with all motherboards? Thanks in Advance
Hi, I've the same logic board with the green light on magsafe but no fan spin, no power.
The strange problem that I can see is the ppbusg3hot floating from 12,46V to 2,2V to 0V then another time 12,46V to 2,2V to 0V and another and another....
I've changed the U7000 but the problem isn't resolved.
Can you help me? It's 4 mounths that I analize this logic without find a solutions.
Thanks
You probably have a short somewhere.
Somewhere on the line ppbus?
@@pldaniels I've checked all components on that rail...nothing is short to ground...I will be crazy!!
Good job mate i sussed out my Macbook thanks to Boardview ordering a buck converter and some amtech jezee now from Rossmann supply :)
Love the Amtech goo. Prior to using Amtech, have always found most fluxes to be more drama than not.
Which chip went bad?
Paul Daniels Was the u7000 mate short to gnd on sbac ok line 💪
Wear gloves.....
I could see bugs flying around your workplace:)
Can u repair my mac book if u done it can u share ur contact number
