He is a miracle in every way. What a phenomenal effort he did. Sure, I'm biased in this case, but a good athletic performance should always be praised! Greetings from Sweden!

@@allaboutperspective650 Although, there is more later history Dutch skating tradition than skating blood. At least when it comes to the elite. Sweden were actually a great skating nation up until 1988 when Thomas Gustafsson won both the 5000 and 10000 m in the olympics. We had lots of great speed skaters in the 40:s 50:s and 60:s that won both world championships and olympic medals at a time when the Netherlands hadn't really conquered the tracks yet. Names like "Sigge Ericsson", "Åke Seyffart", "Johnny Nilsson" and "Johnny Höglin" were all gold medal olympians in different olympic games at the times. In addition to that lots of other medalists at 5000 and 10000m. So whatever blood it is that makes you a great skater, it should be there for a Swede too! Maybe we have in common with the dutch people that we are two of the nations in the world with the tallest people? And proportionally longer legs (And arms) and shorter torsos, which is something that is great for speed skating. Just have a look at Van der Pools body. Extremely long legs, especially the femur (thighs) and a short torso. But, yeah, overall skating (the long runs on seas and canals) is more a "folks tradition" in the Netherlands. But it is quite popular in Sweden too and has seen an uptake the last couple of years.
It appears that the main difference with Niels is that he trains the way he feels he should. He gets a lot of rest and the focus is of the quality and the quantity is different from most national programs including the swedes. The national programs like to have control over their athletes so they can claim credit for their training. Niels doesn't follow that and trains by himself which is a political issue for the OC. But just based on his performance, he is miles ahead of everybody else and so the Beijing Olympics, if it happens wont change much.

Such a great person, especially because he might be an even better philosopher than he is an athlete.
Grattis Nils, WOW!
My favorite Winter Olympic Games sport.

I love that he never trains any slower than this, he goes two speeds, 30.0 and 29.0 for 5k exercise, awsome athlete!
Mesmerizing to watch the 10km, such style!
Whoa! Nils van der Poel 🇸🇪 and Jorrit Bergsma 🇳🇱 💣💥 and 🔥
Nills cuts a really tight turn wasting very little distance, I'd bet that saves him a couple seconds of the 10K.

Nils!
Very spot on according to his recently released manifesto. Did you see it?

Anywhere you can watch this with commentators?
Sverige! ❤
Bergsma is so skinny in comparison with Nils. The Dutchman is like half the weight of the swede.
Is there any limit for this guy???
No
The ice is the limit. As long as he stays on the ice they can't touch him.
Most likely the best 10K ever skated.
Grattis🙂
