    Thank you, that was excellent. One little known tip when sewing with double thread - fold the thread in half so the ends are together, thread the folded end through the eye of the needle and then pass the needle through the loop which has been created and pull. Thread done this way travels together, no odd loops.

    This was an awesome tutorial! And sewing is a lot easier than I figured it was, guess I may have found a new hobby to look into

      Two months to reply to your note - terrible. So glad you found this tutorial useful and do get mending. The more you do the better you get and then tell others and show off your skills! Save money and the climate! We have a heap of free mending tutorials for this reason, so do see if they help. Best wishes.

    So useful for back to school. Any suggestion on how to mend frayed cuff edges on the same type of sweater ?

      Take a look at the website, repairwhatyouwear.com and the knitwear mends. Using a chainstitch round the edge to hold it together and prevent further damage while binding the fray is quite good. Take a look at the pink cashmere cardigan for the idea. email repairwhatyouwear@gmail.com with a photo if you want?

    thanks for this, just found out that my dog has chewed the neck of my favourite sweater, its just a little nibble, could you do a video on how to fix that please, thank you for another great video!!

    • @RepairWhatYouWear
      @RepairWhatYouWear  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, there is a new video called Upcycling a shrunk jumper which may have neck ideas. Also, look at mending ribs on sweaters - there are two videos. It is hard to do a video for every occasion! If it is a nibble then you could look at doing some embroidery in wool - look at the chain stitch and the blanket stitch in a web design on mending elbows.... Hope something comes to mind. Naughty dog!

    What type of knot was that

    • @RepairWhatYouWear
      @RepairWhatYouWear  2 роки тому +1

      We don't encourage knotting, we advise stitching over the same stitch for 3/4 times at the start and end of each mend. Or if you have run out of thread and need to finish with one thread and start again with a new thread. The problem with knotting is that it only works on some fabrics, so isn't a great core skill. I hope that answers your question. Best wishes.

    Your choice of thread?…

    • @RepairWhatYouWear
      @RepairWhatYouWear  Рік тому +1

      Ordinary sewing thread, doubled if you want. As close to the colour as possible but suggest always go slightly darker rather than lighter.

      @@RepairWhatYouWear thanks, they say that there are threads that meld into the material making stronger… but doesn’t come in all colors.
