Great episode, as always. I’m definitely going to listen to some more of Bud Shank’s work. Also glad you got that blast out at the end about the self-centered collectors who lose sight of what it is they are collecting…beautiful jazz music.
I found your channel only yesterday. Outstanding linkage between the heart and purpose of jazz and sociopolitical imperatives. Your guide to buying Blue Note had me immediately ordering a Thad Jones album, despite already owning over 50 Blue Note titles. Look forward to following your excellent work.
Great selections ! And I also thought the part on the last track on Headin’ South was a skip at fist - but when you go back and zone in on it it’s really cool
Sat on the harbour side in Brixham UK (Fish Town) taking in a ☕ & 🌞 Soaking up the info and the grooves, bloody fantastic 👏 I'm hoping one day you can do an episode playing some samples from one of your set lists similar to your Dusk to Dawn video 🤞✌
Dan, random recommendation: if you haven’t seen this yet, I really URGE you to watch the Tiny Desk Concert from a few weeks ago by an artist named Doechii. There is 70 years of black music embodied in that performance (10-person, all-female, all-black band with horns and backup singers). Reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar, but even better in my opinion. Honestly it’s the best new music I’ve seen in a LONG time.

I just listened to Horace Parlan's "Low Down" on Spotify and see what you mean by that neverending phrase he just couldn't let go of. Great stuff!
