In December 1985 I worked at a recording studio right across from the movie theater at 06:24. I think it was called SoundTracks and there was one in Gatlinburg also. What a super busy mall back then. I if I worked nights I had to park way way out from the entrance. Sad to see the change.. good times back in the day tho! Thank you for posting this!
Our local mall is also getting close to this. Hoping after covid, people start getting back into stores. I used to work there in early 00’s and it was just full of people and memories. Now it’s mostly empty with just few anchor stores and random ones scattered thru out.
My Dad was a manager at the Dillard's here in the late 90's and early 00's. Ate a lot of chicken teriyaki from Sarku Japan back then, lol. My buddies and I would go there in the mid 00's if someone got free movie passes and we would joke that it was a time machine to 1999 because we would always see guys wearing JNCO's and Nu-metal band shirts. Also, the locals continued to call it East Towne Mall even after they changed the names.
I miss that mall, I have a ton of memories there.
5:27 the far left mall was where my family used to work as a small business there.
I remember going there a lot growing up I'm 16 now I went there from 1 to 9 years old. And now it a amazon
Was going to plan a trip out here, but the mall is already closed for good 😔.
Yep it's completely closed now, I was lucky to be able to go inside a few months ago to pick my auction winnings up.

For anyone curious, the mall is currently being torn down and replaced with an Amazon Center
When 90 percent of what is for sale at the mall can be purchased online for 25-50 percent less, that explains why the malls are either dead or only barely surviving because black people need a place to hang out and waste their money
