the 2003 show is my favorite. it adapts a lot of the og mirage comics but not quite as edgy, and the family dynamic of the turtles is probably done the best out of any piece of media not counting the most recent idw series.
Besides Raphael getting drunk in like the 4th issue I wouldn’t say the comics were edgy
I didn’t see anyone point out the cup. But it’s from a page where you see the Utroms outside of the mech bodies and sitting on a table. They were just having a break from work.
5:25 "Darwintrom isn't real, he can't hurt you"
Darwintrom:
Hes becoming too powerful.
The paint job on this release is amazing! It's like it popped right outve a comic panel. I'm slowly being won over by NECAs turtle comic line. I got into the turtles through the live action. I'm currently reading The Last Ronin.
The paint job is spectacular! 😍 I absolutely love it. I’ve never seen the tmnt comics, just loved the cartoon and the original live action movie. Your reviews are always a pleasure to watch Anthony ❣️😘💋❤️
Thanks a bunch!
They really did an amazing job with the paint. He really looks metallic.
The paint design on this figure looks way better then the package art imo. If I see this in person I’ll grab it but I’ve been doing a good job of avoiding this amazing line so far.
Edit: just got it on BBTS. I decided imma put Headpool in there!
Good call. I prefer the figure to the box art
I did a quick google image search, and from what little I could see (from the colored versions) the Metal bodies definitely looked more blueish-chrome than grey. So in that sense the figure is more accurate than the box art. However, in those same pictures the Utroms were more purple than pink.... so you win some you lose some, lol.
I got to the turtles with old 80s/90s comic books, but the best for me is the animated series from 2000
5:24-Damn,that jumpscare got me 😨
Wow, the paint is amazing to me.
The drink is from the last panel in issue 3 of the Mirage series.
The unmetallic paint looks great even though I'm not that big into the comics. The live action first 2 movies or 2003 are my favorite
He actually can hold the cup the wider grahbing hands are flexible and you can get him to hold it with breaking em
My fav version if definitely the 2012 cartoon its nostalgic for me and I really like the story of the show especially splinters origin story
Comic versions are my favourite than the cartoon. 1990 movie origins is based from the comic books which is why I love the movie.
I've watched other reviews as of late, and maybe you've seen them as well, but if you swap out one of the hands with an open one it can actually hold the cup with the straw very well.
For me it's the original 1990 movie. Such a masterpiece.
Darwin is taking over
For the amount of paint and sculpted details, i'm more than fine with the lack of articulation. This figure is just amazing!
Old goofy Cartoon that no longer stands up is how we all got into them, haha. 90s live action movie is still in my top 10 movies… but I absolutely LOVED the Archie comics. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Mirage stuff but TMNT Adventures was the shit. Plus it actually mad Slash a badass anti Hero.
Comics all day for me. But my first introduction was the cartoons and then movies. Love it all though TMNT is my jam.
The original comics were in "black and white". So neither the paintjob nor the packaging is correct!
my fav look for this character was in Age of Utrom
Kevin Eastman’s current artwork on the package isn’t good reference material for how the original comic characters looked, 40 years on and he has changed the way he draws his characters in noticeable ways. The chrome is accurate to the old comics
Mirage comics for me with 1990 being probably the best outside adaptation of all
I think the 2003 turtles are the best but that may be because my introduction to them was that show and the licensed games that came from it
my favirote version was the OG toys that kind of combined comic/cartoon, with each turtle having a different shade of green. for me i was huge into it during "turtlemania" of 89-91 i think then that was it
Mannnnnnnn this looks freaking amaze-balls!!!
Looks like a really good Robocop!
NECA is usually really good at making a good figure
Im def army building these!!!! Look how crazy they sculpted the krang head...thats impressive. I cant wait for a new Mirage re-sculpts of the turtles!
It really is a great paintjob, they captured the cartoonish feel.
7:08 😆
Im definitely buying this its amazing and I dont have any krang
a stumach cover would be fun so it could also be used as an robot or battle mode
@AnthonysCustoms I like tmnt 2003 👍
I feel sorry for the Turtles now, Darwin and Krang will surely be dining in Turtle soup. 🐢🥣
Like most people my age I got introduced to the turtles through the '80s cartoon. I loved it as a kid. The 1990 movie is absolutely my favorite movie. Not favorite turtle movie, favorite movie. And I'm a huge fan of the original Mirage run of the TMNT first. I also loved adventures, and I really enjoyed the image run. The newer IDW stuff is good too, I just haven't read that much of it. I love all the cartoons so far, I really had to try to get into rise of the TMNT but I'm glad I did because I think it might be my favorite.
I am not familiar with the older comic turtles, but I still love these figures. I came across this guy at FYE and was blown away by how awesome he looked....But, I didn't buy it because its price was nearly 50 dollars.
This is a fair review. Articulation is kind of weak but it looks AMAZING on the shelf. This would have been a 2022 top 10 for me, if I did that sort of thing.
Mainline IDW iteration for me
Wow, the figure looks pretty good!
Mannnnnnnn I would have given a 10 for aesthetics
I used to like Ninja Turtles when I was a kid. But sadly as an adult I can’t get into them cause they’re turtles. Idk maybe if they were dogs or cats, or just mutants I would like them more. I don’t like the turtle aspect. I do like their villains though..
NECA needs to put on a shading clinic for the Marvel Legends VCR line team.
This figure's paint job is pretty epic.
My favorite turtles are the 1990 movie turltes. I like grounded stories and the characterization of the turtles.
From what I have seen of the 203 series it is a great balance of the dimension hoping of Mirage comic, the characterization of the movie.
def getting this one!
1987 Cartoon for me! The movies didn’t really capture me as a child for some reason. I own them but haven’t watched as an adult- I am excited to watch them with my kids- they’re just about old enough.
My memories of TMNT back to the goofy cartoon and the movies, although I rememeber the second and the third movies more than the first. Didn't watch or read anything but that.
Since theres 2 ninja robots reusing this sculpt, I'd be really surprised if we don't get a scratch and grey repaint down the line
Have been waiting for this review, thank you!
Whe I saw the Thumbnail I thought why the heck would Anthony upload a drawing? Lol.Cel Shading done right.
I love this one. That paint job is just immaculate. I hate fanboys and I refuse to be one, but I have to give it to NECA. When I look at what they're putting out and at their prices and I then look at what other companies (cough...Hasbro) are doing and it becomes clear that one company just cares a whole lot more about their product than the other. Either NECA is taking smaller margins than most companies on their products, or others are just way overcharging the consumer. And I get that the dynamics are different, NECA being privately owned and all that. Even the tooling cost on this guy has to be pretty high, because aside from Utrom variants, I doubt they get much reuse out of these.
I do want to add, my figure kicks forward all the way just fine so I'm curious if something is getting caught on your unit. He can even sit down and I think one of the solicitation images even had him in a seated position. The articulation is still it's greatest shortcoming, but maybe more a 7 or 7.5 for me, personally. I'm tempted to get another one so I can display both heads. I kind of wish NECA had omitted the red tools in favor of more damaged parts, but that's a nitpick.
The original comics black and white and im not sure if the colors were ever definitive. I think they only released colored versions way later. I also heard the color versions lose a lot of the intricate detail that was present in the original release.
Maybe they were colors on some cover art somewhere.. not sure.
For me I like the comics but I got into the turtles was live action and 2003 cw4kids turtles was the main favorite for me and I love the animation style and story of that one. And you made Darwin more popular than Hasbro has ever tried to.
I grew up on the original cartoon and watched the 03 version towards the end if my childhood cartoon watching era. I've got no direct involvement with the comics, bur theres something about the designs that scratches a happy place in my brain. This in particular I wanna army build the fuck out of. I don't know what it is but theres something about the proportions and stockiness that makes looking at it cause the good brain chemicals to happen. It's weirdly gratifying.
Neca needs to make a BTAS line.
Seeing the paint job on this just makes me hate those crappy X-Men ones even more with their random brown lines
W in the chat bro
Great review! By the way you never did a TMNT from super 7, do you have some thoughts on that line?
seems very overpriced
Tmnt Ultron? 😆
Anthony come on dude - I come to your channel to NOT buy figures! Now I have to get this one too? 😅 Fine...
Consequence of being objective i guess
I'm not a big fan of the comics, but I have the robot, Utrom and slash because I liked those figures. Comic slash is one of my favorite of all the Neca turtles.
Hi Anthony. Been watching you for quite a while. Just wondering why you don't like to be called "Tony". All due respect
...it's not my name.
I think the IDW Comics are my favorite takes on the world of the TMNT.
