if the master the boards book is not enough, as you mention, then what else did you study from? what's the actual entire material that we have to study? is there a bibliography we can access ?
Yes, you are correct. Q1 exam is different in a way that the resource materials are not precise. We have to combine all these materials as I mentioned here.. On MCC website, there is a list of study materials, however, if we follow that, we will never be able to appear the exam.
Hi Dr Paul, Can you confirm what score you got on the practice CDM/MCQ before taking the actual exam? I was told to aim in the 70's (i.e 19/27 practice CDM) to reflect a passing score in the actual exam? Thanks
That is a great question, I had around 75, I would recommend the aim should be around 80% in the final practice test for a better score. However, if you just want to pass, 65% to70% should be ok. Remember, only a passing score will not help you anyway getting a residency position in Canada.

Hello, step 1 kaplan books are great resource for basic science but at my opinion those will take long time to complete. If you really want, go for Physiology and pathology. @@husnafarheen95 sorry, I never tried for the externship, so I do not know the process, you can search the individual website of the Medical school. Once you have passed the exam, you can not sit for the exam again. It is the same for the USMLE. But if anyone fails, yes, then they can.
Thank you, great video! How would you compare the QE1 to CK? How much time would you recommend taking between the two exams?
You are very welcome. At my point of view, those are quite similar except ethics and population health. Regarding time, it varies person to person, few weeks were enough for me.
Great thank you! Is there any specific way your recommend prepping for the CDM portion of the exam?
I am extremely sorry. I don't know How did I miss your question. Anyway, I did't take any extra preparation for that and that was my mistake. I would suggest Canada Q bank CDM as in Uworld CK, there is no CDM part. Thank you .
if the master the boards book is not enough, as you mention, then what else did you study from? what's the actual entire material that we have to study? is there a bibliography we can access ?
Dear Dr. Paul,
For MCCQE preparation, did you use all 4 looks you’ve linked on amazon in the description? I am still unclear on what you used each book/resource for in regards to the MCCQE examination. If you could clarity that would be so helpful.
Thank you so much,
Atoosa
Hi, I passed USMLE step 1 before Q1 and CK. I was preparing at the same time for Q1 and CK. During my preparation, I mostly depended on Uworld Qbank as I had good basic science knowledge at this time. I went through MTB 2, 3, FA CK just 1 time to make sure that I did not miss any important topic. TN is a huge book that was overwhelming for me. I went through Family Medicine and Ethics of it. I hope you know how stressful North American exams are. We can't go through too many books, it would take few years .I think you are still in Medical school, have fresh and up to date knowledge. Only Uworld or Canada Q bank should be ok for you. Choosing resources wisely is very important to be successful in this exam. What I said is completely my view. Now it is your choice. Good luck.

My pleasure. I immigrated to Canada, then took the exam. However, MCC is conducting Q1 exams in almost 80 countries.
Can you give information on the books and sites I can study .
You can check the description for books, I will update the websites as well. Thanks.
How do you feel about Bootcamps Trainings? I was refommended one but they are quite expensive
I can not recommend on any course or training. Yes, you are right, courses are expensive here.
Hi thank you for the video. I am now a 5th year mbbs student in China please can you tell me if I go for the exam before graduation and how long did you prepare ? Thank you
Hello, It took me roughly 9 months to pass both MCCQE1 and USMLE Step 2 CK. Average duration should be around 6 months. All the best.
Yes, you can take the exam before graduation. what I know, for that you have to apply 15 months prior to your expected graduation time. Thank you.
Thank you very much for replying. Please do you know if I should do step 1 then mccqe or just the mccqe since I want to go to Canada and not the USA .
@@queenmbama8994 Sorry I missed your comment. You DO NOT need to appear USMLE Step 1. You can straight do the MCCQE1 exam. But USMLE Step 2 CK is similar to MCCQE1 and if you can go through the CK, your chance of doing well in Q1 is much more.

Is the score important in matching ?
And is it possible for IMG to have positions other than FM or IM such as ophthalmology ? ☹️
The Score is super important. FM and IM, are IMG friendly but any surgical program is hard but not impossible.
Thank you so much , Can I do my internship in Canada before qualification and is it easy or not to apply for it there? I have PR card
But I didnt do my exams yet !
Sorry for late reply, actually I missed your question. What I know there is no 1 year internship like other countries in Canada, even in USA. Usually they consider 1st year of Residency training as internship. I am not sure about that. I think you can contact MCC. or if you are yet to complete your graduation, you can apply for rotation in Canada.Thank you.
@@raghadsuboh6573 hello, was reading through the comments and just wanted to ask, did u manage to apply and GET a one year internship in Canada before writing your exams?am in the same exact situation as you and wanted to know if I can get such a rotation
Hey Paul, thanks for your encouraging videos. I want to ask you from your experience. I have graduated from Med school, almost 14 years ago, and I came to Canada 10 years ago. I have finished Masters and now almost done with a PhD program. Do you think it's too late for me to do the medical qualification exams, or there is still a chance for me? I would like to be in touch with you if you don't mind for some advice. Cheers
Thank you so much for your comment. What I know, year of graduation is not a problem in Canada, but they value recency of practice. Those of us moving in Canada as immigrants are old graduate as for Immigration, You know, we need years of experience to apply. I think you are really in a good position with Masters & Ph.D. It's better late than never. Feel free to contact me. I will also take advise from you about Masters and Ph.D

Hi, Yes, I am working on this.
Hey doctor, thanks for your valued info. I'm following a similar path as you (using steps to study) and was wondering if you can comment on residency locations? As in which provinces you recommend. There's a 33% entry rate for family medicine but fresh graduates like myself cannot compete with those with 5-10 years experience. Regards!
Thanks for your feedback. Regarding locations, I think remote areas are easy to get like Saskatchewan and also the chance for fresh graduate is more. It is also very important to have recency of practice while applying for residency.Hope it helps.
@@nomemorization1128 Sounds good! I'll keep that in mind and unfortunately the key point is Family Medicine not other residencies.
Hi. @No Memorization
Your video is very helpful for guidance. I am a fresh medical graduate and want to start my preparation now for qe1.
1. Which book would you recommend to begin with?
2. What topics you think I should begin with?
Thanks for your interest. As you are fresh, I think you don't need to be worried about pathophysiology of diseases. Still as resources Master the Board 2 or 3 is a nice book to begin. Toronto Notes is a recognized resource of Canada exam. I read it a little, but you can definitely go through it, if you like, I would suggest. But always Keep Q bank during your preparation. Every topics are important except rare diseases. Thank you.

Hi maybe my question will sound ridiculous but i wonder .if my basic is weak what would you suggest me as a source for mccqe1 . Is it ok if I start with kaplan step1 books and go with mtb books or can I directly start preparing with mtb books ? Any suggestion would be appreciated thank you
Hello, step 1 kaplan books are great resource for basic science but at my opinion those will take long time to complete. If you really want, go for Physiology and pathology. MCCQ1 does not evaluate basic science but knowing pathophysiology of disease will give you more confidence I believe as this is kind of conceptual exam. Yes, you can start the same topics together.
