Great comparison at 11:20. I always got an impression that Filmic Pro was an ultimate solution for movie makers, but perhaps it is the situation taking place when we're discussing iPhones though?
Man thank you, this was so useful. I had questions, I didn't even know I have, about HDR and Dolby Vision as well as Filmic Pro thank you for answering the questions I didn't know I have had lol. This is a bit of a bummer. I would imagine they should let us have at least two basic controls in HDR, one over shutter and one over which lens we wanna use. Pretty useless selling us a phone with so many cameras, of which only one gives us HDR. I hope they fix this with S21 Ultra. Right now this is why mobile film making promotion is so close to push out DSLR yet so far from coming even close. Even though HDR+ and Dolby vision in such a small factor are mind blowing.
I've been through so many videos trying to find information about the camera on this phone! You really answered all my questions and gave some great tips for those of us new to videography and camera work - thank you!

Hello Simon, your channel is great and definitely needs more subscribers. It's really quality content you offer. I am also owner of a Note 20 ultra and I am torn between using the Galaxy app and Filmic pro. In the most cases I'd use Filmic pro, because of the control. I like the Note 20 ultra but it is impossible to understand that there is no access to the tele or ultra wide lens. Do you think, that it's just the software and it can be fixed? I use the tele 58mm from Moment and 18 mm lens with VND Filter on the main camera.
Thank you! I know the Xperia phones with Cinema Pro app can access all the lenses. So there's no reason why Samsung phones can't. Perhaps Samsung don't see enough value in developing the pro app. They only recently reinstated it

With that being said I wish you would create a few short films, showing off those beautiful filming locations, fusing light and darkness to accent your story. I've seen that band and video before, I watch a lot of German music videos, and Voice of Germany. My into the band Rammstein since seeing them in the movie XXX. I have been a fan of Nina from the 1980s. When I was a kid I listen to German polka music. My great-grandparents on my father's side came from Stuttgart, however they had homes in Berlin, and also Bavaria. Then they moved to America in late 1920s, lived in New York City. They lost there business and money due to hatred during the 1930s. Then they moved to upper state New York, in a small German town. They all moved to California in the late 1950s to work in Hollywood. My father didn't like the entertainment industry, so he described to work for the Los Angeles County as a truck driver. When I would go over to my grandparents house they would have all these interesting people that worked at Disney as cartoonist or even voice overs. Others where small time actors of the time. On my mother's side my great-grand uncle was a limo driver for Hollywood celebrities and Studio owners from the 1920s to late 1930s. He was good friends with Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and Jack Warner from Warner Brothers. When I was a kid it was a lot of fun hearing all the stories of the days of Hollywood. That's why the call it the golden days of Hollywood, today it's a shit hole... On my note 20 if I switch to 8k in pro video it switches to the telephoto lens! Wish I could use it in other resolutions and frame rates but at least it had a video function with 8k.
Hi, thanks for in-deph review. Loved the quality of this phone. By the way, in your previous videos I saw that you reviewed mcpro24fps - test it, if with it the telephoto works or not? I'm using Mi Note 10, and mcpro24fps does provide more access to auxilary cameras than Filmic Pro.

mcpro24fps allows you to record 10bit video from the entire sensor, with a huge bitrate up to 600Mbps. Forget about filmicpro, they stopped updating it a long time ago, 10bit still does not work in it.
Could someone please help me to find a way to shoot raw video with note 20 ultra? I cannot manage to do it, whatever I do the file size is always too small, so it does not save any raw for me. What do I do wrong? I shoot 1920*1080 30fps, but the it saves neither raw copies or raw files at all... :-/

I returned my note 20 for many of the same reasons stated. It's a shame, I feel it's far superior to the iPhone and I love the look, but I found myself hoping the iPhone 12 will be a better fit for me
@@SiHorrocks yes, I loved the note, but it felt hampered both by Samsung and filmic pro. I had several apps trying to get the ease of what I remembered with my s10+ with filmic pro. If the 12 doesn't deliver, I'll be back for sure

I heard a rumour that the 20 ultra would be the last note and that Samsung would be focusing its resources on their new flip models coming out🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ I hate this, as I've said earlier the note 20 ultra is the most incredible phone I have had the pleasure of owning but as a filmmaker I am mostly interested in the camera on phones and the support seems to be lacking from Samsung and inadvertently filmic pro. They have even closed the music app and request you now use UA-cam Music!!
@@alexvswrld I can say that filmic seem much snappier with the 12 pro max than with my note ultra. Several of the snags I saw with note are gone. I will update again when apple releases their log profile. Any inquiries jus let me know
This fone is million tines better than gold digger Iphone. What ever issues are there will be resolved in the coming updates. Samsung gives updates and apply give new model with double price.
The review is really detailed and useful. I agree with other earlier comments that this is the best samsung note 20 ultra review I have seen so far :) Personally, I think that this should be the way to review a phone especially its camera features i.e what are the features? where are they available? Their limitation etc... rather than just reading what written in the spec that the phone has 3 super high quality lens, then conclude its performance against the others, while most of the time, the lens are only accessible on the auto mode :).

Have you tried the russian app mcpro24fps ? Take a look at it, specially the russian non commercial version (test version) available after you talk a bit with the author on the playstore comments... bbecause it is 30 times better than filmic pro. And maybe... you will have access to the zoom camera in a near future.
loving my 865+ haven't really tried the camera much and haven't done any video recording but reviews were mainly positive for the 20 ultra. the Qualcomm version did perform better than the exynos version though. its a great device with a real premium feel to it.
Watching this and seeing all that dynamic range in auto mode... 😮😮😮 The footage in Filmic Pro looked pale in comparison. I mean, I don't really have to worry about this as I can't afford this phone anyway... 😂.. but just WOW

I have note 20 ultra and finally i found that in ultra wide camera i can shot 4k 60fps i pro mode. I was about to sell it because i thoughto ly 30fps was available. Now i consider to buy Zhiyun smooth 5.. do you believe i can do a decent videos with this combination? Also co aider buying 1-2 lenses .. any suggestion about lenses?
5:19 are you sure that is not because you are in that aspect ratio? did you? because to use the entire screen you would think it would combine some image from a few of the lenses
This is an absolutely great video. Thank you for this. It seems auto is now beating pro-mode in so many ways. The world of photography / videography is changing. I'm not even sure how many more years my DSLR will be relevant for anything other than big glass. (Portraits?)

Your channel is so fantastic I treated myself to a Note20 Ultra in the sales. 😊 And that's an upgrade from a 5 year old iPhone 6s! Wanted to learn how to take better photos and vids, and I've been mucking about with it using your tips as inspo over the past week. Best camera features: Using the sPen as remote shutter button The green focus outlining Bluetooth and USB audio input options All those frame rates, dimensions and resolutions! Bloody massive screen Improvement needed: No wide angle/telephoto lens in Pro mode No front facing camera in Pro mode No microphone options for the above No headphone jack (need a dual adapter to charge the phone and use a external mic at the same time) Not being able to tell if the camera is rolling if you're in front of the camera and used the sPen as the shutter button. Also, there are NO filter adapters on the market that cover all 3 lens simultaneously. If you know of one, do let me know!
@@SiHorrocks The one sold by Motion is actually the Ulanzi U-filter which I bought (thankfully for only a fiver). Doesn't fit over the camera bump at all, and even with a phone case it lets light in through the side. Glad I didn't buy any filters first!

There is something weird about the telephoto lens in Samsung. You blocked the camera but but but......Samsung camera app detect it. So it AUTOMATICALLY changes to the main camera because it is designed to search the best aperture. That happened to me with my S10+. I could detect that weird behaviour doing the next test: 1. Block half of the tele, only the tele 2. Record at home 3. Record through an open window or outside. Then I could prove that the app change from tele to main camera because is half blocked image ....Good video. 🤩🤩🤩

hey thanks for the comment. McPro doesn't have access to the telephoto, it has the same access as FiLMiC Pro on the Note20 Ultra

Irony is that S20 ultra was probably the worst Samsung phone ever while note is one of the best ever.
I do think it has improved with subsequent software updates. My son has one and all of the early problems (esp with auto focus) appear to be gone.
I had no issues with my s20 ultra eeven after the updates love my note ultra tho

This is all edited on LumaFusion on iPad. I just sent the files via Google drive and HDR seems to show up in Luma. There's a visible difference

Uhd is not full 4K but is often called 4K, 3rd party apps mostly refer to uhd as 4k

I returned my note 20 for many of the same reasons stated. It's a shame, I feel it's far superior to the iPhone and I love the look, but I found myself hoping the iPhone 12 will be a better fit for me

@@SiHorrocks yes, I loved the note, but it felt hampered both by Samsung and filmic pro. I had several apps trying to get the ease of what I remembered with my s10+ with filmic pro. If the 12 doesn't deliver, I'll be back for sure

I hate this, as I've said earlier the note 20 ultra is the most incredible phone I have had the pleasure of owning but as a filmmaker I am mostly interested in the camera on phones and the support seems to be lacking from Samsung and inadvertently filmic pro. They have even closed the music app and request you now use UA-cam Music!!
@@alexvswrld I can say that filmic seem much snappier with the 12 pro max than with my note ultra. Several of the snags I saw with note are gone. I will update again when apple releases their log profile. Any inquiries jus let me know

I agree with other earlier comments that this is the best samsung note 20 ultra review I have seen so far :)
Personally, I think that this should be the way to review a phone especially its camera features i.e what are the features? where are they available? Their limitation etc... rather than just reading what written in the spec that the phone has 3 super high quality lens, then conclude its performance against the others, while most of the time, the lens are only accessible on the auto mode :).

you can use HDR10 in pro mode just turn it on and stay at 4k 30 and it will work. it works on my s10
The strange thing is I turned it off and it still looked the same in both video modes

it's straight from the phone to LumaFusion and then to UA-cam - no colour changes or filters

Take a look at it, specially the russian non commercial version (test version) available after you talk a bit with the author on the playstore comments... bbecause it is 30 times better than filmic pro. And maybe... you will have access to the zoom camera in a near future.

loving my 865+ haven't really tried the camera much and haven't done any video recording but reviews were mainly positive for the 20 ultra. the Qualcomm version did perform better than the exynos version though. its a great device with a real premium feel to it.
Watching this and seeing all that dynamic range in auto mode... 😮😮😮 The footage in Filmic Pro looked pale in comparison. I mean, I don't really have to worry about this as I can't afford this phone anyway... 😂.. but just WOW

I have note 20 ultra and finally i found that in ultra wide camera i can shot 4k 60fps i pro mode. I was about to sell it because i thoughto ly 30fps was available. Now i consider to buy Zhiyun smooth 5.. do you believe i can do a decent videos with this combination? Also co aider buying 1-2 lenses .. any suggestion about lenses?

That's with i like my LG V60 a lot, it has no telephoto lens but it will let you do anything in manual mode, even use HDR10

Wanted to learn how to take better photos and vids, and I've been mucking about with it using your tips as inspo over the past week.
Best camera features:
Using the sPen as remote shutter button
The green focus outlining
Bluetooth and USB audio input options
All those frame rates, dimensions and resolutions!
Bloody massive screen
Improvement needed:
No wide angle/telephoto lens in Pro mode
No front facing camera in Pro mode
No microphone options for the above
No headphone jack (need a dual adapter to charge the phone and use a external mic at the same time)
Not being able to tell if the camera is rolling if you're in front of the camera and used the sPen as the shutter button.
Also, there are NO filter adapters on the market that cover all 3 lens simultaneously. If you know of one, do let me know!
Nice breakdown! I know Moment have a case for the Note20 not sure if that allows filters to cover all lenses simultaneously. I guess not
@@SiHorrocks The one sold by Motion is actually the Ulanzi U-filter which I bought (thankfully for only a fiver). Doesn't fit over the camera bump at all, and even with a phone case it lets light in through the side. Glad I didn't buy any filters first!

I Will stick to native app. Was feeling bad whether I made a wrong choice going with note 20 ultra instead of waiting for iphone 12. but the video you tested looks great that is comforting. There is something weird about the telephoto lens in Samsung. You blocked the camera but but but......Samsung camera app detect it. So it AUTOMATICALLY changes to the main camera because it is designed to search the best aperture. That happened to me with my S10+. I could detect that weird behaviour doing the next test: 1. Block half of the tele, only the tele 2. Record at home 3. Record through an open window or outside. Then I could prove that the app change from tele to main camera because is half blocked image ....Good video. 🤩🤩🤩
Yeah, but you can see it switch back to the main camera. I mean I moved my finger very slowly so I would catch the edge of it before it switched 1😄
