- Howdy, in this part of the series you'll be setting all the basic settings you need to use iNav with an RC Flying Wing. Oh and as a bonus we also cover the setup of the OSD screen too. The link to the iNav wiki is below, Press SHOW MORE to see it, Matt
iNav Wiki
================
I would strongly suggest that you take a couple of minutes to have a read of the iNav wiki.
The page discussed in this part is here github.com/iNa...
Parts Used
================
These are the two required parts for this series.
Omnibus Betaflight F4 Flight Controller V1 STM32 F405 MCU Integrated OS
goo.gl/bYpmjJ
Ublox NEO-M8N Flight Controller GPS with Protective Shell for PIX PX4 Pixhawk
goo.gl/7Z3gh1
The first part is a F3 flight control board which has a OSD built-in and the second part is a GPS unit.
You need the GPS module so iNav knows where the model is. I've been using the same module with other boards for months and they work great. They even pick up the Russian GLONASS satellites for more accurate and faster position fixes.
Advanced Setup
-----------------
I have been using another board F4 here goo.gl/lqg1Ih that has a current sensor on board & a different pinout to the one suggested above.
I've personally got a few of these and they're also working well.
They do come with the extra complexity of having a whole 3 extra wires and you'll also need a current meter to set the current setting accurately.
Note: I won't be showing how to setup the advanced board until the end of the series.
Either choice is a good one, I'm using both with my models and it's been working brilliantly. See this playlist for the evidence: • Revisiting iNav in 201...

THIS SERIES OF VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS IS IN ONE WORD OR TWO F*%$*NG FANTASTIC
Thanks Terry, glad they've helped you. Matt
Thanks Matt for your clear and understandable instructions with minimal digression. just getting into flight controllers for fixed wing camera planes although I do fly big stuff and then prefer my inputs whether right or wrong.
Thank you so much for this guide! Got my AR Wing and OmnibusF4 V2 FC in last night and will be using all your guides to get it flying great. Cheers!
Very clear explanation again Matt, you've really covered almost everything. Thank you very much for doing this. This is a hughe contribution to the fixed wing FPV community.
Howdy Jelle, fantastic feedback, thank you. Matt
You're welcome, and actually; Thank you !
It Should be amazing to join you once at the flightline. I'm a couple of times a year in the UK, but unfortunately In Scotland (Aberdeenshire) only, but who knows, maybe I've got the opportunity to extend my visit next time, rent a car and join you at the flight line.
Hi Matt, good news, I have my Omnibus F4 V1 up and working, even the RSSI on my L9R...Thanks for your Videos, it showed us it can be done and a LOT easier than APM which I find rather hard work due to its overly complex nature.
Im still not very clear on using the CLI though, so will keep watching as I dont think I have it finally adjusted for my Falcon build. Impressed with the GPS choice too, 16 Sats indoors if you please..:)
Morning, thats fantastic news! If you go on to launch it the model, make sure you have the board the right way around and also launch in pass through mode, just in case one you have one of the servos needing reversing. As for the CLI, it's basically the nerdy version of the settings you see in the configurator. Matt
Yes, it's such a small, light setup, thats what I like most about it, and as a bonus, it's cheap as chips by comparison to some APs. If I buy another, I will be getting one with a switched Mode 5v reg onboard, this linear gets rather warm as Im using main pack monitoring. I plan on mounting it on metal spacers and an alum plate to drag some heat out of it though...:) I need more practice on the CLI.
Thanks Matt - another excellent tutorial!
Thanks I think I got it I had to reverse Servo three in the GUI for it to work properly but I will look at the support forums just to double-check stuff thanks
Thanks Matt great video as normal just setting up inav on 450 quad then will try on few
thanks
kev
Howdy Kev, oh sweet. I'm covering the details here for a flying wing, but the basics are the same between the two model types, Matt
Life saver good watch with a nice brew :D
Glad it helps fella :) Matt
Just a few more to go through now haha
Been a while since i have flown planes but now the cost of a FC and GPS i so low it makes sense to install( Cyclops Storm when i was last using Flight Controllers ( not so cheap a set up )
Currently trying to fit the matek F411 in a plane you flew and tried to kill
The Eachine Blackwing
thanks Matt for the series! could you please add numbers to all the video titles? it's sometimes hard to keep track which video to watch first!! thanks again!!
Howdy fella, see the playlist here ua-cam.com/play/PLgoM4-umzSqd0clW-e_A12yKiOpV--3a2.html that is in order. Once the series is complete, I'll number them properly. Hope that helps, Matt
Hi Matt, I've started dabbling in wings coming from a quad background and this series of vids is amazing, so thanks!!
I'm following along with an Airbot Omnibus F4 v5. I soldered my rx (XM+) to the same port as you, just above PWM1 and my gps to rx6 & tx6, just like you. However, to get me sticks to move in iNav I have to enable Serial RX on UART 6 (you mention this in one of the other vids but in this video you use UART 1 for serial rx and UART 6 for gps.
Which UART do I set my gps to if I have it connected to rx6 & tx6 which my SBUS rx is using UART 6?
Howdy Mike, firstly, you don't need iNav for fixed wing models. With quads you MUST have a FC board, fixed wing, optional! Anyway, with that said, the SBUS UART is the key one, get that to work, then from there stay away from UART 1 as thats normally needed for the USB connection, any of the others should be fair game for the GPS. Check the pin diagram for your board as needed. Hope that helps Mike, Matt
Thanks for this installment Matt. A couple of questions though. Mine was set (as you know) as a flying wing and I've got green lights in all the boxes on the configurator. I've set RTH but under the "Advanced Config" section I'm missing the final two boxes "RTH & Landing" and "Fixed Wing" settings. My FC is powered via a 2s lipo through a BEC connected to the Vbat pins but the servos don't move in response to stick inputs. They do under the RX tab and "Enable esc and servo output " is on. Any ideas?
Howdy Andrew, as you know I knackered mine. Try a multi meter on the pins to make sure that they have 5V. Also make sure you have the other steps completed too, they should be working. Matt
Thanks but any idea where the Advanced Config missing sections have gone? I'll try an alternative three wire esc and remove the Vbat connected BEC
Hi Matt. In inav configurator i can see under the tab receiver movement, but the actual servo's are not moving. To get actual movement of the servo's does the board need to be armed? Is pass thru also working when the board is not armed or need the board to be armed in order to have pass thru activated/working?
Hi Matt, in "advanced tuning" > "RTH an landings settings" 11:28 you leave "Land after RTH" activated. Should we deactivate it if we want our plane to loiter upon us? rather than trying to land itself?
8:01 I have set the value to 745 and the results are as follows:
mAh on OSD: 1841 (from a fully charged battery)
mAh while re-charging on imax b6: 1865
I'm thinking of upping it by 1 to get it 99% accurate :)
Outstanding Matthias, that start value of 740 was close, yay!
Howdy Matt :D Great work! I have a problem. RTH ist not working. i cant select the Mode. Inav wiki says i have activate GPS and MAGNETOMER. Is this the case? I cant get my Magnetometer working. Its red on the top bar. Switchung SDA and SCL doesnt working. Cant even click the button "calibrate magnetometer". I switch in the configuration at sensors to Magnetometer = auto... Need your help Matt. I use the omnibus f4 v1 board and the ublox mini gps. Want happy days too ;)
Howdy Frank, in a fixed wing model you don't need Magnetometer enabled, hence why it's not covered in this series. Matt
Great videos! I need to use uart6 for GPS/mag and uart3 for telemetry. But they share pins on f4 pro. Any idea how to do this? Thx
Howdy Phil, unfortunately I have no idea fella, Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff Guess I'll go back to F3. Check out EZ wifibroadcast. Would be a great topic for your channel. 720p digital video for less than $200. cheers!
Здравствуйте! Подскажите, как настроить плавный газ в Айнаве?
Hiya Matt! As time allows, I am progressing more and more on my set up. In fact, I think I'm all done and ready for the maiden (in passthrough, of course). My question for you now is, as I've just been going back through ALL the settings to make sure I've got things working right, I plugged in my flight battery and I was just looking at the OSD in my goggles (first time ever having OSD, lol) and I noticed that the Heading Graph was showing that the wing was pointing North but I actually have the wing facing South. The arrow on top of my GPS unit is pointing to the front of the wing. I have the magnetometer, in the Config Tab disabled. Is there a way to get the Heading graph to show that the wing is pointing in the appropriate direction?
Actually, after a bit of searching, I think I found the answer to my own question. If I'm understanding this correctly....the Heading Graph, in the OSD options, has to do with the Omnibus magnetometer. The magnetometer is disabled, so the Heading Graph isn't going to work properly anyway. So, I've just removed the Heading Graph from my OSD and I'm moving on. I've been through the Accelerometer Calibration, I've double checked most everything including to double check that the control surfaces are compensating in the right directions. The OSD is very clear and readable. If it would just stop snowing, I do believe that I am ready for the maiden flight...and at a fraction of the cost of a Vector. Thanks very much for taking the time to do this series! I've greatly enjoyed it!!! I'll be sure to share my flight experiences on the Facebook page.
Matt - have you covered setup of your VTX and Camera - I've gone through all the #Parts but seen nowt - also what VTx and camera have you recomended for the Falcon build...joe
Howdy Joe, I don't cover the exact setup as it's only 3 wires as normal for the fv camera & vTx. Although I do explain this on the wiring part of the series. As for which vTx I use, the Eachine TX526 is my favourite one as it works well and does 25/200/600mW on all the channels, Matt
Matt - So understanding that the Tx526 power is 7 to 24Volts and can be taken of J15 &J17 or RAM connection, with J3 link set to VCC. does the camera power use this and finally dear ;>) Matt what camera is used - you Joseph please stop bothering Matt on Sunday - thanking you...joe
Howdy Joe, no don't run it through the board, see the wiring loom video for how I set mine up. As for the camera, any of the RunCam ones are normally good. I like the Swift's a lot, including the mini ones, Matt
this is what i wanted!!! thanks matt..
Hey Johan, happy days 😀
Hi, my battery voltage/mah used isn't working, i powering the board with a 4s lipo and enabled current sensor and voltage monitoring..?
Can i use a betaflight f4 fc meant for a quad in an airplane? Can i hook up servos to the motor outputs? Thanks for any help.
Yep should be ok. Just select the right board when flashing with inav. Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff thanks. It worked.
Awsoome instruction. Could I talk you into doing a Hexacopter that has gimbal pitch control using an omnibus fc?
Hey VD, I'm afraid not as I don't have a hex, however see the wiki here for the exotic setups github.com/iNavFlight/inav/wiki/Custom-mixes-for-exotic-setups Matt
Matthew, at 5:50 min of this video, you said GPS can provide even hight....etc.etc in a barometer disactivated scenario. Is it correct? I mean, does GPS data provide all information to take the ALT NAV HOLD Mode without BAROMETER activation?
Thats right Gian, a Baro is not needed for fixed wing models, the GPS provides enough detail. See the iNav wiki/other comments here for more details, Matt
Tk Matt, very good channel.
To day i tried but , on my OSD can't get the relative high from GPS. In flight, good trimmed, unfortunately, looks evident how in NAV ALT HOLD, it can't mantain its altitude. How is?
I'm using exactly the same GPS of you, M8N PIX HAWK , compass less.
FCB is a 8$ offert of HK, FLIP32 AIO F1 , with BARO, OSD and Current sensor. Any idea?
Tk a lot
g
PS Pleas, can you link the righ ref. in wiki , where is specified the GPS can get even hight? TK
Matt, do you set your servo travel within iNav or within your radio? Im not sure the best method, i usually do this in the radio by adjusting the endpoints but im guessing if you did it in the radio it would only apply to passthru mode and when flicking to other modes the FC will move the servos too much and not inline with the travel you want?
Morning Hally, 99% of the time the servos shouldn;t hit their maximums when in a stabilized mode due to the settings to limit the angles. However if for some very rare reason you have model that cannot take the full movement of the servo, then you have 2 options, mechanically set it so it cannot move that much or reduce the percentage from 100 on the servos tab. For pass through mode, the amount of movement is controlled by the Tx. Hope that helps! Matt
Morning fella, what im trying to do is limit the servo travel as i want my elevons to move around 8-10mm, so at the moment the servos have far too much travel, which i can adjust in the radio but just wondered if its better to do that within the servos tab in iNav, i wasnt sure if iNav would stick to the travel range when its doing the other modes you see if i simply did it in the radio.
love ur vids'im setting up the zohd dart with inav 1.9.1and having issue with correct mixing'my channels move correctly in the reciever tab but on the plane its not correct, any ideas?im using omnibus f4 v1 /zohd dart /spektrum sat,
preset is flying wing z84 'down or up elevator causes the flaps to move opposite instead of up together and roll makes flaps move in unison instead of opposite,.some things backwards possibly in the settings ?? thx
Howdy fella, you'll need to see the iNav support group. There was an issue with 1.9.1 & mixing. Matt
when are you doing the review off the Sakura 417mm 3D plane?
Howdy fella, when I get around to finishing it. It's been on my desk for over a month half built. Matt
hi Matt! I started calibration and setup befor choosing a preset, can I choos preset later and won't it erase my setting or calibration? I am building a 5 inch racer with GPS, not a wing ATM.
btw how did you calibraited your esc? afterwards it is challenging to do becouse connection it to direclty to FC it need to desoldering form it...
Any idea on how to get RSSI from spektrum satellite in OSD ? I tried that channel 9 setting in CLI, but it only displays 49 that never changes even though you power off radio...
Looks like this pseudo rssi doesn't work at all, using lemon satellite rx, that they claim is supported.
Matt, is there any way to changed the metric values to imperial, such as "RTL Altitude" in advanced tuning?
Hi Randy, not to my knowledge, Matt
hey friend ,how should i set up duel rates and expo in tanaris while using inav.. if im not mistaking u dont mess with weights on transmitter .. ive set up 50% throws in inav but after more training ill want to pump that up .. all the videos never show expo and duel rates while using inav config.. im a little scared to set up unless i know its correct ... thanks bud
Matt, when you set the loiter radius, you set it to 4 meters! Did you change that at a later date?
Howdy Paul, I hope so! Matt
any tips for quad rth inav omnibus f3 m8n............good vids.........thanx.........
Awesome...great video....thanks....:)
Hello I have a spektrum dx6e remote which uses dsmx? should still use the same sbus setup ?
Coild u help me? iv built my first wing! but i carnt get the servos to work from my ombious F4 v3. They are digital servos but its as though the Power isnt going to them.... im devastated! im a sub of yours and have followed your videos for the s800 build and the FC set up but i carnt get the servos to work! please help im grounded!
running nav 2.1.4 with f-35 lightning on a fixed wing. "nav launch" is not showing as an option in the modes tab... suggestions? thx
Hi, my battery voltage isn't working, i powering the board with a 3S lipo and enabled current sensing and voltage monitoring.. any idea?
Hi thanks for that saved me a lot of time :-) Cheers
Please help
set max_angle_inclination_rll = 600
set max_angle_inclination_pit = 600
set small_angle = 180
set nav_fw_bank_angle = 35
set nav_rth_altitude = 7000
set failsafe_throttle_low_delay = 0
set nav_rth_allow_landing = OFF
After applying this settings. Pitch is not working in manual mode after arming the flight controller. During dis arm works perfectly.
verry good
I Matt, I have a problem with the board Omnibus F4 V2, in INAV under Setup > Pre-arming checks, Hardware health is after 1-2 minutes "RED" and the blue led on the board is flashing fast. I installed the latest firmware Omnibus F4 PRO and I followed you configuration-steps, this event is to see in the last my new boards, it's a serial board issue? I don't want burn the 2 new boards, thank you for any suggestions
Howdy fella, you say it''s red, but there are multiple options there in that list. Whichever one is red, resolve it. This could be a GPS fix, so add a GPS, confirm it's working and go outside. Or maybe as simple as calibrating the board, hope that helps, Matt
Thanks Matt I recheck all the settings options
hi matt...following your video (not enough time but try to catch up) ....i got my omnibus F4 pro v2 all set up on my plane (Chaser) ..got GPS on, turn off baro & mag as you said..motor is spinning on throttle ..got RSSI signal (without activing it on config tab ?) taranis x9e with D4RII ....but I have got servo NOT moving .... nothing ?? connected on PWM 3& 4 ? I have esc connected on motor 1 pwm (disconnected the red wire so it's opto now) ...
Howdy Vincent, we're 3 parts away from getting to that stage. If you aren't supplying the board with power from the VBAT pin, then you'll need the ESC to provide the servos power. Hope that helps! Matt
Matthew Ogborne .... problem with my board...powering from vbat i get less then 1 v at servo.... (but 5v at rx ?) so i don t power from vbat but from esc ...happy days got my servo working now ...
YAY!
Hi Matt, need some help with my wing setup. seems like my pwm3 has no output for servo 3. pwm4 is working fine. tried to interchange it and the problem goes to the other servo. Is there a way i can remap the pwm3 to maybe pwm5, and editing the preset fixed wing at inav gui to use the new map? any solution for this aside from buying new fc? Thanks.
Howdy fella, you can change the outputs in the CLI for the smix settings, to do that see the iNav wiki and it half explains the process for you. Matt
Hi Matt! Why arent you using the integrated magnetometer of the gps unit?
Howdy, thats simple, there is no need for one on a fixed wing model, Matt
Matthew Ogborne because it can only fly forward compared to quad where heading is important for GPS flight modes(e.g. turning whilst hovering) I guess. Thanks alot!
Thats it!
Hi Matt, Please help! I am using An F4 V1 board as in your videos and have configured it the same except for it being used for conventional fixed wing. My problem is the esc., elevator, and left aileron servos are not responding (right aileron and rudder work perfectly). I am using a Spektrum satelite receiver. Any ideas please? Many thanks.
Howdy fella, have you powered the servo rail with 5V? Matt
Hi Matt, really appreciate your swift response. Yes, the servo rail is powered with a 5v sbec. thanks.
Hi Matt Board working perfectly now. Obviously a mistake on my part as I cleared everything out and re-configured it and all good now. Should have done that first! sorry to waste your time. Cheers.
someone please help !!!? I dont have a any servo section on my inav!!? what is happening! and Idea's ? Thanke you
Do you a power distribution board want use 14.8 volt useing a FLIGHT CONTROLLER F405-OSD
Howdy Pete, you can use a PDB if you wish. If the main FC has a current sensor, you'll want to run the main power through that and then onto the board, Matt
when you say normal servos... would i change that if i was using digital servos?
Yes, digital servos can take higher refresh rates. BUT check the specifications of them. Also to e frankly honest you're unlikely to notice the difference between the two, so I'd just leave the setting as it is. Matt
i cant get the rssi on my osd it just stay at 0. it chold be on channel 16 how do i set this up?
Hey Matthijs, you set that no the receiver tab instead, Matt
do you know how to set iNav to receive CRSF?
Howdy, no idea, see their wiki i it's possible. Matt
my osd tab is empty what can i do
