I've been watching mad Men religiously for over 10 years and every single time it gives me and "aha!" moment depending on what stage of my career I am in.

Man, those ads at 8:10 - you wouldn't believe that something like that existed in reality...

I am an Advertising and Graphic Design student. I came across Mad Men some months ago when I was in my first semester. I fell in love with the show, the characters, the stories... but more importantly, Mad Men made me love my career even more. I am very excited to keep learning new things and improve my design skills. Amazing show, and great video!

Thank you Jesse for this video. Just got rejected from university and this gave me some needed strength to keep working on my craftsmanship.

Great points, Jesse! What I always enjoyed with MM, was that it was all about the quality of the concept, and how it would have to be encapsulated into a campaign slogan or headline. Like you say, being able to discuss the work, and pitch the idea, it key :)

Hello! I have a question, what would be a good canvas size to work on? I feel like mine are either too big or too small….

    Hey Jesse,
I was wondering if you would be able to suggest or recommend a good flatbed scanner for the kind of textural work you are doing?
Thanks for all that you share :)

Thanks for the reminder to do my annual MM rewatch! Great tips from a masterpiece of a TV series, and I pick up new things every time I watch it. It’s one of the influences that helped me decide to switch from tech writing to design so it’s quite dear to my heart.

Liked this video because I started teaching myself graphic design 8 years ago after watching mad men lol. Don Draper was great but Peggy Olsen was my idol with her meteoric rise. Self taught in graphic design, illustration, video, and web design / development. And now I’m a senior designer :)

Any tips for how you did this?? I'm also on the same path as you were 8 years ago,and in a very crappy job at the minute!

Great show, and great points. I actually know of an agency that had 1 major account (in addition to small ones.) However when the big account changed to working in house, the agency did not have enough income to stay open and had to close down. Crazy how that still happens even for agencies!
