You do occasionally get Akizuki/Kitakaze/Harugumo picking a fight at close range without support, but even then you come out with a bloody nose and need to pop couple of heals to get back in fighting condition.
@@g6g401 got to balance it out somehow. The turret traverse also felt slow & HE is kind of weaksauce. However it is a reminiscent of the Russian run & gun, now with some extra helping of drive by torpedoes.
seeing this thing actually makes me look forward to playing the French DDs. never thought I'd say I looked forward to DDs again given the way they've been soft-nerfed over time.
So I've been watching a bunch of gameplay videos to see if I should play this. Until this one, all I saw was carrier, battleship, and cruiser game plays. However, destroyer looks hands down the most fun! Second choice being a few of those secondary focused brawler type builds. But man I'm surprised I don't come across more DD info/footage.
That might be because results with DDs are... inconsistent, to say the least. What's more, their biggest strengths are easily countered. Torpedoes? A little bit of WASD and they all miss. Concealment? Nah fam. Planes and Radar everywhere. Fast-firing guns? Shoot and you're spotted, and most enemies are hella thirsty for that smol DD aft, and that sweet aft can't take a beating. Oh, you want to obliterate some big ships? Well, sunshine, that cap ain't gonna cap itself, and you cannot rely on your team's capital ships to cap it for you. They are such a strategic advantage and a nightmare when left to their own devices that most people want them dead ASAP. DDs are great fun, don't get me wrong, but dear me, they're the most _frustrating_ class to play. IMO, each class isn't more "fun" than others. It's more of a different kind of "fun." The short version: >CV: For those who enjoy to harass others with no danger of retaliation. If you're any good, there's nothing your target can do to stop it. Nothing can hide from you. If you ever want to feel like an almighty being, this is for you. That is, until the enemy see you... >BB: For those who like to see massive numbers in two pushes of a button. Also good for those who don't mind getting beaten to oblivion. Getting hurt and delivering the hurt is what you do best. However, you are at the mercy of the great RNG... >CA/CL: For those who are fond of the middle ground and versatility. You are not fast, but you aren't slow. You do not have big gun, but you do not have small gun. But what you do have, are a particular set of -skills- tools. Tools that can help in given situations. Truly, WoWS's Swiss Army Knife. yeah, weird. Likely it's a mistake. Though WG have done crazy things in the past, with their other games. ex: back when ppl whined about E100 tank (in WoT) having only 235 pen, a guy knowledgeable in tank history said that 15 cm canon had even lower pen IRL. However the way the game worked that gun would've been useless with sub 235 pen at higher levels vs higher level tanks. Plus WG wanted to keep rolling with a certain "logic" that bigger caliber = deserves better pen when IRL it's not always true.

I play Grozovoi without Last Stand. It tends to work out fine, LS is one of the most overrated skills actually. How often has it really saved your life, where you couldn't have fixed your situation with a repair? And how many times did you actually need LS because you fucked up?
With a dd it is extremely useful in general. Say you get caught in radar unexpectedly in a shima or z-52 or anything, how are you gonna move your ship if your rudder is taken out? Or get out of harm's way without a motor. LS is one of the most useful skills in the tree. But by all means dont use it and go in circles with your rudder stuck to one side

That is the entire idea here - how often does it make a difference? With a boosted PM, short CD on the repair, etc., how often do you still get killed because your engine got taken out or your rudder destroyed, after you've already repaired it? Yes it may happen, but it should not be happening more than once every 30 or 40 games in random, and never in ranked. All the other times, you've also got smoke, and also have a heal. Plus you're not supposed to ever be close enough to any ship to get hydro'd anyway. If you are that close, you've misplayed your position and given up your shell arc advantage.
Give it slow torps as an option so it can outrun them and torpedo itself
