I just bought one of these but might be a slightly newer model. It works fine and I would say it compares to the old vcr's only recording to a thumb drive or hard. My only complaint is that the guide only goes out for a few hours....about a 1/2 day. So it can't set it to record a program that you know is coming up several days out. You can set it up to record a series every day or once a week. But for $30 what can you expect?
I guess this won't play mp4 or AVI files? I tried to convert a DVD to mp4 and then AVI and put on a USB drive to play on this device, but neither will play on this. Any solution to this? I can't find an easy way to convert DVD to MTS. I guess this will only play MTS files. I'd like to put a bunch of DVD's on USB flash drives to be able to play on this player.
My question is, can we playback the recording while the flashdrive is in the unit itself, via the HDMI connector on the flat panel? You showed us playing back the recorded video on a computer using VLC.
It did work for the time we used it (about 1 week to get the footage for this UA-cam video). We don’t know how it will hold up in the long run. This is a really low-end device with a user interface comparable to a 1980’s VCR. With a price of less than 10% of a “real” OTA DVR we can't expect much.
