Former lift guy here. UH-60s. We fly tac-free cruise enroute in the high threat environment. Maximum maneuver space for every aircraft in formation. Terrain flight mode is contour; maximum 90 degrees left or right of the aircraft you're trailing. No further forward than 90 degrees to his left or right. When we arrive at the RP, we reform into staggered trail left or right for landing in the LZ so the infantry can disembark and form up easily. This is for air assault units only (light infantry or airborne); not sure what General Support units do. Our GS battalion did not do air assaults and generally only flew formation for training.
I live in DC and I love how the park service and the local cops fly Hueys. What I see all the time are flights of three marine black hawks, the local Hueys and the old Marine ones all the time. Occasionally but rarely Ospreys too.
Looks like a very cool Sim. The cockpit is very realistic right down to the shaking instrument panel, except from what I recall in the real UH-1 the panel (and everything else) shook a lot more. Pilot's seat was spring loaded to cut down on fatigue.
All the talk about TADIL-J/Link 16 brought back memories from my days doing operational/interoperability testing of the E-3 up at Tinker. Got to play around with links to an F-15E at one point.
0:55 Wow that's one perfectly trimmed out choppah :) - perfectly servicable airframe even after the first impact... 1:40 Aviator's length unit: x rotor diameters. Area unit: x rotor disks. @@behindthen0thing Grim Reapers. You'll probably find them easily when looking for any DCS tutorials on the Tube. Basically a fun crowd not taking themselves too seriously and they had a history of tutorial videos that weren't that great, but that has improved a lot within the last year, year and a half or so.
Hey Mover, are you still running with the G2? I ordered one after your recommendation to me on twitch since we use VR for the same purposes and have been using it for a few months now and couldn't be happier with it. Every so often I run into a situation where the limited field of view bugs me, but even then turning my head a bit more is a fair trade for it being crystal clear and absurdly comfortable. They need to make NVGs that comfortable.
Oh he's in the G2 now? Neat, I'm still getting used to VR in DCS (at first I tried to use only the WMR controllers but it wasn't fun), and it took me a while to learn how to wear the headset (back strap on the occipital bone right?), but it's pretty cool
In Hampton Georgia there is an organization called the Army Aviation Heritage foundation that operates Hueys and cobras. They are an awesome group and could be a good opportunity to get a group together for charity
I've heard others say flying in pancake mode is like flying an RC aircraft with a cam on its nose while flying VR actually gets you in the thing like real flying. Since I switched almost 2 years ago I just did some "test some DCS things quickly" flights in pancake and a bunch on MP tryouts to see how much better it runs there. VR is 120% worth it and I wouldn't fly without anymore except for some quick tests (like after installing mods, changing a map, altering the input definitions with more 2/3-way bindings for the TMWH throttle). And I just run an old CV1. I guess getting a Quest 2 is currently the best bang for the buck way to get into VR, just needs a Link cable (or 3rd party cable solutions that support USB3 properly) or a good WiFi 6 router an Virtual Desktop. Quest 1 is still great though as well and Oculus does sell those for $199 in the US, refurbished with full warranty. That's almost a steal as it's a brilliant device even with the successor being present. If you don't like facebook, there's still the Reverb G2, the Valve Index and all the VIVE products as well as the Pimaxes to be considered, but all of those being more expensive. After having flown DCS and Il-2 in VR, I also found some great VR games afterwards that I wasn't particularly interested in initially... titles like Half-Life: Alyx, Boneworks, Asgard's Wrath, Lone Echo, Shadow Legend VR, In Death: Unchained or the Vader Immortal episodes are real gems. Especially gunplay/shooting and archery are a lot of fun in VR.

GSABs do the same because CAC isn’t really a real thing anymore

That modern Venom Huey is a cool looking bird.
The sheer amount of destruction and hellfire at the end was freaking incredible. Don't let anyone say you're a crappy DCS pilot. They're wrong.

Ive been around since you had 7k subs, congrats on 300k! I hope the Top Gun watch party is still happening.

On behalf of the RAAF, well done, and the ending was spectacular. We shall put you in for a DFC.
hey C.W lemoine you should do a reaction video on that F/A-18C HUD footage where the hornet shoots down a MiG-21 during desert storm

The server DCS Huey is a great place for Huey missions as well if you want some Huey and fixed wing missions.
A T-38 doesn't have rotor blades, but you could measure distance in turbine diameters
Love the reference to GR
The moment you realize GR literally became a meme :)
What's GR

No. Sorry.

What do you think some of the coolest jobs in the military are, besides being a pilot?

You guys are the best...but why does Mover always have to crash and burn? 👍😉🙃💜
Because he didn't read the manuals ;D
Yes! CSAR HUEYS!
Hilarious! (but a cool pedal turn in the middle)
What stick are you using for DCS?
Last time I was this early corona was just a beer

Where's the FARP?
Super funny ending!!!
You guys need to reach out to Jolly_Pilot & get him to join!
He doesn’t have a DCS machine yet.

He has a job. Two of them, actually. He's doing quite well for himself. Just not a priority to play video games right now.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son...
Do you find VR worth it for DCS?
Absolutely. Wouldn't play otherwise.
