Yes they were flat they need vocal coaches to make it for real. If they go into HipHop or R&B. Troy’s mother was out of order because she wasn’t being his mother she was being a place holder for his woman. Idk what happened to his father but mom needs to do something to make her happy or date someone. I’m grateful that my husband’s mother isn’t like this. His mom has a different place in his heart boundaries needed to be set. Keep your loved ones out of your relationship especially your marriage. I been married with my husband for 4 years and I have gone to her for advice but we have boundaries which is healthy sometimes you gotta learn things with your partner on your own.

He did not want to take full responsibility instead he said, "she wants to be number 1 and not you" (paraphrased) instead of him saying he is setting boundaries and assures her that he will always be her son. He threw her under the bus, like saying,, "this is not what I want but this is what my partner says she wants" , "I am not the bad person, she is"

l think the mom purposely spilled the beans about him becoming a cop in order to damage their relationship and hurt Shia. If she doesn’t learn how to backup during the engagement process, she never will. Saying “she’s not your wife yet” sounds crazy. This is a common theme in the black community due to fatherless homes, emotionally incestual relationships between mothers and their sons. Even the fact that Troy often times doesn’t tell Shia when he’s at his mom’s house, is a sign that he subconsciously treats his mom as the “other woman.” It’s weird and inappropriate.

Just know that this is not a "Black community"/fatherless home issue. That may be your personal experience, but it's definitely cross-cultural and sometimes so much worse in other cultures. TLC had a show about mama's boys and most of the participants were not Black and also had a father figure around growing up. It's a common mother/son dynamic and the reason why so many married people have mother in law problems.

Now don’t give me wrong, the woman in this episode does have some major issues. MAJOR. And they need to be addressed. But I think her issues are more about infantilizing her son that they are about some type emotional husbandless fatherless incestuous situation. I haven’t seen the show that you’re referring to, but overly involved mother-in-laws are a common theme across cultures. Italian moms, Mexican moms, Jewish moms who are hyper fixated on their sons are a stereotype that everybody thinks is is common and even sweet. Let a Black woman do the same thing and she becomes the cause of all the ills in the Black community. 🤦🏾♀️

The mother is scared to let her son grow up. My friend and his mom is the same way. I call him a mom’s boy. I have two sons myself and I love them deeply and both are grown and I let them fly away from the nest and be a man and not to hold there hand on everything but if they need to talk I will listen but I don’t interfere with their relationship.
