I did a lot of mission trips in the late 90's/early 2000's as a college student. I first heard this album shortly after it came out, but I heard it in Zambia, Africa. It was interesting to hear this album dedicated to American patriotism in a different country! The missionary family we stayed with (who were Zambian themselves) had it on a cassette tape and played it constantly. It helped me when I got homesick! When I got back to the US, I went straight to the Christian bookstore about bought my own cassette copy.
About 15 years ago on the Sunday before Veteran's Day I had this idea to sing this song as a solo. Then for some reason I decided to have two other guys in my church join me, and we sang it as a trio, with each of us having our own solo parts in places, and joining on the chorus. I played my video on the screen in the background, with the Ray Boltz vocals removed and replaced by an accompaniment track. It was a very powerful moment. It worked well in a church environment, especially for me, since I served in many areas at the church, and it was indeed an "honor to serve." The chorus has a double meaning which applies to both military service and Christian service.
Sharing: To Thank all who Served to keep us free.. And to the familys.. Sorry we let you down.... May GOD hid all of you in His love and in plane site... and give you a peace within your self.... Thank You , Thank YOU........God Blessed YOU. ALL
