Canada has nothing on the amount of rust and suffering we have in the Midwest of America. To be fair, we can all just drive out to Nevada and buy new old rust free 90’s shit boxes whenever so that’s good at least.
My 99 4runner started its life in Arizona then moved to Florida. I’m from New England but spend winters in Texas so I can’t relate. There is almost no rust after 24 years
I worked as a headmaster for ten years. When there was a blow through in the frame like that I would sIt tell the metal quit pulling back then the companies knew to cut a certain amount around that to replace the steel. It's a good thing you liked that unit off the road for the two years as it would have been extremely dangerous out there.

not sure where u r from but you should see the frame on my '04 tacoma sr5 from all road salt and all. there was almost no frame left when i buying so i get whole frame chopped and repaired
Mine didn't even have the ability to weld fix it. The back shock was rusted out so bad there was nowhere to even weld anything to. Did a frame swap and the 3.4 swap. Best move ever. The 3.0 is hot garbage, or at least it is right before the HG goes...

Americans and their wannabe work vehicles. That's a private vechile, form over function, never will be a commercial vehicle. Look at how the frame looks on a Ford Transit flatbed in Europe. It’s called living in a shitty part of the United States where salt and moisture decimate steel. Yeah Toyota could have coated it better no doubt, but if you lived in a arid climate wouldn’t be an issue
That would be a good argument if Chevy trucks older than 10-15 years didn’t have the bed (box) and cab fold up like a taco 🌮 because the frame is rusted through and disintegrating
I dont get people. Even in the comments. Complaining that their frame is gone on a Tacoma or 4runner. Its not that expensive to get the frame sprayed and rust proofed every year before winter.
Isn’t that ALL Canadian vehicle frames?
Looks like every one I’ve had
You should see the.. “rust belt” of the south
It’s free weight reduction man!

Salt roads not good for any frame. We chose where we live. 😂

Isnt living in the salt belt great?! Those rubberized undercoatings just accelerate rust. Oil/lanolin undercoating is the way to go.
I got a relatively new frame on my Tacoma, I’m planning to slather it up with marine grade calcium sulfonate grease.

Looking forward to this series!
Toyota bought back many trucks a few years ago for bad frames
Yeah this was much to old. In Canada they replaced frames on trucks with frame rot if they are less than 15 years old.

How much did the new frame cost? I have an 08 that isn't bad as of now, but it may be worth replacing at some point
It was used from a parts truck I traded other parts from
Still stronger than a shortwides frame 🤣🤣
It all depends on where the vehicle lives. My 1999 4runner's California frame looks better than your new frame.

Speed holes dawg it's part of the design
