- The Prince William County Police Department in Virginia is mourning the loss of Officer Ashley Guindon on her first day on the job. She was sworn in on Friday and was responding to a domestic disturbance call when Ronald Hamilton allegedly shot her from his front door. Jamie Yuccas reports.
I’m unsure why this was recommended to me 5 years later. But man, I hope her parents are well. Definitely heart breaking

In reading up on this case I just found out that Officer Guindon’s father committed suicide in 2004 the day after getting back from deployment in Iraq. Now I can’t even BEGIN to imagine what her mother is going through. First her husband, then her only daughter. Absolutely horrific.

@@tutnod2449a life sentence doesn't mean you're in jail for life necessarily. You have to serve the minimum term, maybe 15-20 years before you can be eligible for parole. But if you have good behavior, then you actually can still get out after that term is up. If you're sentenced to 7 life terms, then that minimum duration would be multiplied by 7... So in other words, he has life without chance for parole

It's dumb to call for somebody to serve more than 1 life sentence when nobody is going to live past the 1 life they have. Nobody committing an act deserving of a life sentence deserves parole. Again, change the vocabulary to mean what the sentence actually means.

@@Catholic_Fiat33 I think what he is saying is that the bad ones have a tendency to shoot anyone that even remotely looks like they intend to do something. The second you ask questions or don't kneel down in compliance with an officers request or demands the bad ones view you as a criminal and someone who could be armed. And if they think you are armed they are going to choose to shoot first and cover it up later somehow.

@@Catholic_Fiat33 To be fair though the amount of unarmed people shot by police is low compared to the amount of interactions they have with the community a year. Also a good deal of unarmed shootings, at least from what I've seen, have had a resisting person or a person attempting to commit suicide by cop. Of course the police who do shoot unarmed people without reason should be locked up, but it's not a common occurrence.

This happened in my town.. the guy that did it I used to see at the local dive bar all the time. Every year they do a memorial for her and the police station has her photo up big as day right when you walk in.
She was out on her first day of protecting other people’s lives, and gave up her own before she could even have so much as a week on the job. RIP.
