I just want to say, Nicola how important your videos are to the people who get to live vicariously through your adventures! Thank you so very, very much. Watching you find treasures in the Thames clay is better than sipping the finest cognac... it is such a treat. I've been watching from the early days and my heart does a little happy skip whenever a new video comes out. Love to you from Vancouver Island, Canada!
Hello! That is such a lovely thing to say. You have made my evening. I consider myself so lucky to be able to share my passion with people such as yourself . Thank you for your support xox
Nicola, A good place I have used for similar items requiring constant flushing with fresh water, is to put them in the cistern tank of the loo. As you flush, it fills with fresh water all the time😁. Just a thought, use it, don’t use it. Your call.
Excellent again Nicola very interesting about the button. Lovely old Junk Shop like we used to have here in Norfolk! Any way care and we will see you soon...
When I moved home to my mothers house. We were cleaning behind the dryer. There in the wall was a hole with 4 small tails hanging out. I grabbed 2 and my mother grabbed the other 2. We had baby squirrels, not weaned. The mother had chewed on the electrical wires while making the nest. Well we ran mom out, patched the wall and I helped raise 4 baby squirrels. I had an apron that had two large pockets that I carried them in along with a pair of baby bottles for dolls. I loved those little furry babies.
I like your intuitive sense of history. Not just describing the object, but connecting with the people who were contemporaries of that object. Connecting is what got me hooked on history as a kid when my Mom and I would go through the battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania about 6 or 8 times a year to get to Grandma's. Touching, feeling, and holding these pieces of history (regardless of "value") allowed me to connect with those people who lived and died long before I existed. Thank you!
I loved the end with your squirrel friend. I had one before I moved; but I could only watch him jumping through the branches of a tree behind my apartment building.
Nicola, I, too, wanted to take a minute to tell you how important your videos mean to me. I live outside Washington, DC although I am Canadian by birth, my parents originally English on my Mother's side and my Dad and his ancestors born and raised in Belfast, NI. Your voice(s) and accent(s) take me back to my childhood, yearning to see my family and friends and the whimsical yet serious way you look at anything in the Thames. It is mesmerizing to see how your mind works. I am 67 now and my chances of seeing London dwindle by the day. But I will say, I have always saved a special toy from my childhood, that of a lovely movable wooden monkey about six inches tall. As I watched you ask the gentleman from the junk shop a few last questions I noticed something hanging on the door or window behind him, maybe just to the left of his head. It looked so much like my monkey and brought back wonderful memories. I am going to try and find that monkey! We can always wish can't we? I wish I could have seen a close up but thank you all the same. Thank you again for your channel. It makes many of my days. ❤️ Merry Christmas!
I absolutely loved the little elephant teapot, and talk about hidden pictures behind other pics, I recently took a frame off my Nanny and Poppas pics because it was ruined, and lo and behold there was a pic of my mom and another man, all dressed up looking very much dreamy and in love, but alas since I lost her this yr, it will remain a mystery as she was the last of her family to go. The junk shop was wonderful, I absolutely love going in places like that. Smashing Nic.🇨🇦🍁🐘🤗💕⛄
I just want to say how much I enjoy your videos yours is the first I have ever watched on mudlarking. And you got me hooked. Have a wonderful wonderful holiday from New York
I have been to the Junk Shop several times, and it never disappoints. Thanks for featuring it and for interviewing the proprietor. He's certainly an interesting guy.
That wooden dog's smile gets bigger each time I see him! It's almost as if he is smiling for the camera. Thanks for taking us to the Junk Shop! What a great place! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! Thanks for sharing ❤
Giggling..." I just happened to have my boots in the car". This is like I used to just have my fishing pole in the car, always. Love your videos. Best part of the day. Do believe I could get lost in the Junk Shop for hours..
That man could probably tell you the story of where he found everything in that store. I would lose track of time listening to them lol. Great shop and great video.
What a find, the old nit comb. Loved the old curio Junk Shop. Really enjoy your mudlarking videos. From Perth, Western Australia. Cheers & Merry Xmas Lois
Your river Thames looks like a blacksmiths paradise, so much Iron and steel lying everywhere, rusty for sure but that is not a problem with a forge. I really enjoy your videos Nicola.
Another wonderful video Nicola !!! Love the Codd Bottle marble. You went to my favorite kind of shop !!! That "Junk Shop" was absolutely awesome !!! Here in America we go to Thrift stores, Goodwill stores, Antique Shops, Flea Markets & buy everything you could ever want old or new !!! I absolutely love love love old things & antiques !!! I truly believe that I was born with an old soul 😊 !!! Love how you went about filming your friend's shop at the end & the beautiful music as you showed different items in his shop !!! We have the gray squirrels in our state of NC too but one town called Brevard has beautiful snow white squirrels !!! ♥️🙂🐿️ 🥜🥜
The Shop was was fabulous. So many goodies to look through. A private historian to give you a tour! The nitcomb wasy favourite find. We still fight the nits!
This is the first time I've seen this video, and I've never before seen anyone so delighted to have a close encounter with a nit comb. You make me smile so much, Nicola!😁😁😁❤️❤️❤️ Edit: I have been to this shop, when I lived in London- it's not a junk shop, it's a treasure chamber .... I loved it and wish I could visit it again.
The Thames offers you adventure, nature, presents -but- your taste of shopping is just exquisite (I really saw in a shopping mall or so). You choose Wonderland! Love and peace and many thanks!
I've never seen a squirrel take food from a human hand. More amazing is with one peanut in his/her mouth the next one is taken by it's paw. You obviously have a big heart. Happy Christmas. Tom USA
The junk shop brings back a LOT of memories! When I was growing up in the 1970s, my father was an avid antique collector. He loved the unusual stuff as well as coffee grinders. We always had very odd old antiques in the house growing up and, every weekend, we went to shops, yard sales, garage sales, and flea markets! I miss all that - and being young enough to walk around all those places with ease, of course! The wonders we saw! One man loved the circus and had several of the giant cloth murals hanging in his vast shop!
You have a great eyes! And I absolutely love this hobby..I'm not really shure why there's so many cool and historic treasures in the areas you go, I'm thinking probably the history of this rivers location...Well happy hunting from the US.

Thank-you Nicola for braving the elements ; cold wind and sticky mud to make this lovely video for us, but days will get longer after the end of the new year's holidays, patience. In the meantime Tobias's junk shop is the perfect warm place to be waiting for better days with a nice cup of tea and mince-pies, don't you think? 🫖☕🍪 🫖☕🍩 Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année 2022 à tous !
Loved your comment that you wanted to read the book before giving it as a gift because that is a family tradition of mine. I received a book from my dad one Christmas with a slip of paper in the front that said (after wishing me a Merry Christmas) that I had to lend him the book soon as he was currently reading it and had gotten only to page 136 and wanted to finish it!
What an enchanting video, and we've visited Toby's shop when last in Greenwich a couple of years ago! Thank you Nicola from bringing home so many wonderful memories for my family and I! So happy seeing your squirrel again. How adorable! 😊 Much love, Wendi 🌻 PS. You squirrel is hoarding the nuts for winter munchings 😉
I was just as fascinated by your finds and Tobias Moy's shop as I was when I watched this video last year. Thanks once again for sharing your experiences with us all. Cheers Nicola! 🖖
I would love if you could persuade Tobias to share more of his stories about his life and his lovely shop!! He is such a charming and interesting character with a collection that i could spend hours looking through. Cheers!!
Toujours très intéressant de connaître histoire de votre pays avec ces objets oubliés et quel paradis ce shop, un pur bonheur pour les yeux. Une très très belle vidéo 👍👍👍
What a treat to bring us to the Junk Shop - next time I'm back in London I'll go there for sure (I even found out where the transporter bridge was) ♥ Merry Christmas to all
I was just about to visit GB and London, then covid started. Now I have to postphone my visit year after year... These little trips with you Nicola, make the wait worth wile. Thank you and marry christmas from Zürich
I was in Greenwich on Sunday (12th December) and stopped in Goddards for some lunch. Tobias's shop looked very interesting will definitely stop by and have a wonder around when I'm next in Greenwich! 😊 xx
@@nicolawhitemudlark Thanks Nicola! x Am hoping that the Thames will leave me something nice on the foreshore on Christmas Eve 🙏 Hope you have super Christmas too 🎄 xx
This was a great mix in this video. Loved the visit to the junk shop and the music you put with it was lovely and nostalgic! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 from an American 🇺🇸 Anglophile 🇬🇧
My French Grandmother lived in China from around 1910-1918, in Shanghai speaking the language fluently and left me her hair comb which is designed the same way as that knit comb. You have som3 great finds, very interesting. Please keep it up
This is one of my most favorite videos that you have done so far. I can see why anyone could spend hours just looking at things in Tobias's shop. I will put that on my list of places to visit when I have a chance to go to UK.
Who doesn’t love a junk shop! Another place you’d have to drag me away from. Love to see the comb after it’s more presentable. May you have a loving, blessed Christmas with your family and friends ✨☮️🌎✨
A lovely video and we love the Greenwich Junk Shop, the gondola bridge that Tobias showed us all looks like the transporter bridge located in Newport in Wales. It’s still there and we drove by it last September. Thanks again for a lovely lark and the wonders of Tobias’s shop Best wishes Mark and Julie 👍⭐️👍⭐️
Oh how I'd love to visit the Junk Store! It's surely the #1 place to visit if ever I get to travel from Tennessee to London. May God bless you and yours ...Merry Christmas!
Had just watched Si's video before yours and he met at Tobias also. I can just imagine the many stories Tobias could tell you, would almost forget the reason you originally went to his shop for. Thank you very much for taking us along with you on your Thames adventures and wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas
This was such a fun one! The lark may have been short time-wise, but what finds! Truly interesting to look at with even more interesting back stories. Then there was the trip to Tobias’s shop, loaded with treats, not the least of which was Tobias himself! What a character - he’s a man with a million stories to tell! And lastly, there was the bit with your little furry friend, collecting his daily share of nuts! I wonder which if you enjoys your encounters the most? I also want to compliment you on the lovely night scenes of the buildings lit up along the river. Spectacular! I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos since I realized one day that there had to be people on YT doing mudlarking vids! I did a search and thought your channel looked promising and it must have my lucky day! You are such a lovely person - interesting and interested, unpretentious, generous with your knowledge and your self, and unfailingly cheerful. And your videography skills are wonderful. I love the way you capture the river with the buildings that line it, the boats that travel on it and the feathered inhabitants of the water and those who visit the shore. I look forward to each one and if you don’t have one in a Sunday, I simply go back and pick one of the older ones that I haven’t worked my through yet. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years! 💚❤️🐿🎄🐿❤️💚
I love browsing antique stores, especially the ones that deal with the more eclectic items. The books too. You can find so many old books that are no longer in print that are full of great information. Not everything is on the internet.

Yes indeed, now living in Devon I enjoy my visits with Nicola and Si Finds to see London now where I met my husband of 50 years.
I have been to England a few times (we were stationed in Germany from 72-96) but sadly I didnt know about mudlarks then.
That's so nice. I feel the same way :)
I live in Romford, Essex (UK). London Borough of Havering, and very rarely go into central London, (silly me).

As usual, just fabulous vlog. All my 55 trips to London, didn't know about The Junk Shop. Wish I did. Best to you for Christmas. Jane, Philadelphia
Tobias' shop is amazing! And I think Simon will love the book.
Speaking of fish…I am so excited to give the green fish (# 28 think)that I got from you recently to my daughter for Christmas…… I can’t wait. 🎁
Tobias is the perfect name. He's a toby jug come to life!
ha ha I love that!
Loved the trip to the junk shop! You can tell by his face the joy his pieces bring him! Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas.

Tobias’s shop is a real treasure chest, I must visit one day thank you
I love browsing antique stores, especially the ones that deal with the more eclectic items. The books too. You can find so many old books that are no longer in print that are full of great information. Not everything is on the internet.
Ah! The donor of the beautiful fish for the giveaway! How generous of you! And I agree that shops like this one are the best!
