wow... I haven't even seen this film yet, and what you said... somehow kinda describes my whole existence. I've felt like that going very far back, even 25 years ago, after I played (or listened to music,) it was like "ok, what next? more!" (and I never understood how some people could just go and do other things. and just be okay with it, I mean.
My favorite musical number in the film. I'll admit that watching this brilliant film is like a knife slowly stabbing you in the ribs because it is so heart wrenching, but watching this scene I just can't help but smile despite the main characters fate that would follow.
Matt St.Clair I assume the whole purpose of her singing and believing she was in a musical was like trying to hide the fact that she was doomed from the start. But nonetheless it felt great knowing you could always hide away in fantasy and pretend just for a moment that you were in Sanctuary. Don't we all...
I was astounded and remember watching this film for the first time 20 years on and this song, among many others on the film , I still remember well. A triumph of film making.
Just watched Dogville! Thanks for the recommendation. I like how it truly starts a conversation in your head...the metaphors kind of swirl together with no true answers. A really well-written and staged film!
This movie without Björk, would probably not be watchable. Her voice and persona makes it so much more special and makes the different between a homevideo and a movie..
Just before making "Dancer in the Dark", Lars Von Trier made "Breaking the Waves", which is also quite the tragedy. Although the main character (played by Emily Watson) doesn't daydream of being in a musical, she has "out loud" conversations with whatever god she believes in and acts upon what she's "told", which puts her in horrible situations ...... to put it nicely. This movie is the second of his Trilogy of Tragedies (the third being "Dogville", which from what I understand is even more exhausting to watch as it's basically a filmed stage play with no audience).
I wonder if her smiles and glow was not just being in character but also due to "Holy Christ! I'm singing and dancing with the legendary JOEL FRIGGIN' GREY!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!"
The point is impressive. We immigrants or the ones willing to be immigrants at there only know about broadway musicals, peaceful family lives on big houses and lawn mover which is your only problem if it's broken or something. And this is america law system against immigrants, races.
Horrible movie. You managed to completely upset us. I'm sorry that I saw such a movie Dancer in... Are those repeated scenes, weak dialogues and those embarrassing fake dances, don't you think they are disturbing? That's what that movie did, it offended us. I hope not to see such films again, with such sick ideas. Shame on the director who made such scenes and those who had such ideas in the script.
I love this movie but please,Can you elaborate your opinion?i'm genuinely curious since noone of thé ppl who talk about this movie have thé same opinion
No...its no mainstream musical songs...bjork is totally acquired taste, but her music grows on you and it's like a drug once it does...totally addictive, and transcendental... Try her latest album - but give it atleast ten listening before deciding what you feel for it.
A woman who copes with the pains of life by turning it all into music. A very powerful film
Such an injustice that so few people know about this movies existence.
So true
Not true. This movie is very famous 😅
It’s so sad to see the energetic light that fills her in the happy scenes and then to see her switch to the complete emptiness when the songs are over

This very much describes my feelings on this as well.

Don't we all...
Her facial expression at 2:54 along with them singing "We'll always be there to catch you" breaks my heart.
exactly!!! such a powerful performance she did in this movie!
Randomly watched this clip, havent seen this movie in years. And that exact moment made me swell up
This movie is amazing, it haunted me for days after.....
I was astounded and remember watching this film for the first time 20 years on and this song, among many others on the film , I still remember well. A triumph of film making.
Fuck man, I cant even listen to this without tearing up. Possibly the most heart wrenching film I've ever seen.
Favorite scene from this extremely powerful film... gives me goosebumps
HEARTBREAKING AND BRILLIANT, SUCH GENIUS! With gratitude!
Lars von Trier just blows me away every time! I've seen Antichrist, Melancholia, and now recently Dancer in the Dark. I need more!
watch breaking the waves. i'm still trying to find the idiots.
Don't watch it
You'll only get disappointed
If you haven't already, try to find Zentropa (Europa) in my opinion his best work
Antichrist is atrocious
Be sure to watch “The House That Jack Built” too!
Dogville
“We’ll always be there to catch you.”
F**king brilliant

Mr. von Trier, the most brilliant mind on cinema nowadays.
The best saddest movie ever made😢

See this makes the outcome sadder than it already is.
Judge: Will the court please rise?
Me: Think again your honor, 1 2 3 4!

“i’ll always be there to catch you” 💕
Joker 2 was inspired by this
Finally I found you!!! Yeahhhh
Это шедевр!
One of my favorite parts of the movie. I know the entire dance. ;)
I wonder if her smiles and glow was not just being in character but also due to "Holy Christ! I'm singing and dancing with the legendary JOEL FRIGGIN' GREY!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!"
This song makes me cry every time I listen to it
Amazing musical!
joel grey is still so damn cute, and björk is just pure magic!
awesome sound quality! thx!
This is your musical
Those times when Bjork was really singing! That was a real magic!
Brilliant
See Dogville. A truly intellectual mindfuck. Maybe my best movie experience ever.
Am I the only one who's superHYPED for The Nymphomaniac?
Bjork was incredible in this.
Exactly! :'(
How old was Selma supposed to be in this movie? I saw Bjork on Wikipedia and she's got to be old if she's 47 now!
She's 50 now.
@@ghost14448 Try 54 😔
And she still looks as young as ever!
2020
Where's the one up on the train?
why isn't there 49,000 likes??? (i'm#259)
and what's up w/the 2 haters who DISLIKED?!?!?!?

L l o r o.
Seguís llorando?
According to me th best scene of the movie which is too melodramatic in the whole.
An intersting film but not totally mastered.Too clumsy !
This scene is the worst, I liked trainsong the most, but this scene made me feel like damn why.

I didn't like the songs in this film, is there something wrong with me?
Yes...
