Liam Lawson backed up his triumph on Saturday with victory in the second race of the DTM weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, making it a perfect home outing for the Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse team. Here's all you need to know:
The New Zealander scored 55 of a maximum 56 points in Spielberg and, in doing so, he took a big step towards the top of the DTM standings.
After claiming pole and a win on Saturday, Lawson narrowly missed pole for the second race of the weekend; however, second place in qualifying in the #30 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 with the Red Bull livery still earned him an excellent starting position and a further two points in the Drivers' Championship.
From the start it was a tight race with Germany’s Marco Wittmann, but the race win eventually fell the way of Lawson courtesy of a perfect pit stop from the Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse crew, which put the young New Zealander at the head of the field.
Despite carrying an extra 25 kilograms of success ballast due to his victory in race 1, Lawson crossed the line first after 38 laps of racing.
Lawson is now second in the 2021 Drivers' Championship with 135 points.
One day after finishing fourth in Saturday’s race, luck deserted Alex Albon on Sunday - a puncture resulted in the Thai driver dropping down the field, but even so, Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse extended its lead in the Team competition.
As a result the Thai driver of the #23 AlphaTauri Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 dropped down the field and eventually came home 17th.
Albon now lies sixth in the Drivers' Championship with 94 points.
In the Team competition, Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse has 229 points, leading their nearest rival by 21 points.
The DTM season returns to action from September 17-19 with its sixth race weekend at Assen, Netherlands.

In the first DTM behind the scenes, he was showing up to race weekends with no practice, no sleep, no track walk, and still got a podium. Even Liam was surprised, asking how Alex is doing with no practice.
He spends more time in the Red Bull simulator than in the DTM car, and he has a win already.

Given how long Liam has been living in Europe it's great to hear he still has a strong kiwi accent, along with still talking like a kiwi. It's so cool to hear. It's going to be brilliant to hear in F1 in the next few years and well into the future.

you know its most likely not red bull most of the time. these drivers are on decent diets and that sort of thing is not what a healthy athlete should consume often. Its most likely water or something lol
@@FlagnarBoobz You know I always wondered that myself. Like I know in the x games those dudes arnt drinking monster but Iv never seen just the little red bulls before. Usually they have like the big red bull looking can thats obvi water. So you think they make a redbull shaped can of water? I think your right, thats just wild to me considering how nutty their production efficiency is. Seems like it would cost them a ton to stop normal production to do that just for appearance but again im inclined to agree with you.

@@frostywayne8798 He can't be out as he hasn't been in. Currently racing in F2 - doing well, needs a bit more consistency. I hope he has another season in F2 and can finish in the top 3 - should hopefully put him on the path to an F1 seat.
@@mrBob____ Yeah I get that I was just confused as why you were happy Lawson isn’t in F1. I agree he needs more consistency, especially in that F2 car, but considering he’s a rookie I think he’s doing extremely well
@@frostywayne8798 Not me that was happy he's not in F1 - different person above. Yeah, going very well for Liam in F2, is showing a lot of pace which is good. I think part of it is everyone in F2 is trying to prove something and get noticed so can get a bit chaotic. Also happy for Albon being back in F1, seems like a genuine guy and hope he does well. Not sure why Ashish doesn't like Liam though.
