Amazing, you were able to see live the parrallel between Powder being pushed in the air by the explosion and Silco in the water in the opening scene. This is very impressive to me. I saw the episode many times and never figured it out myself before someone told me. You ve got a gift for this. Very nice video btw
Travis Gifford interviewed David Lyerly the voice director on Arcane. He talks about Mia and the story of recording that final scene in ep 3. He said everyone at the recording was in tears. Its at about 14:50 in the interview: ua-cam.com/video/KpURhtuXLx8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TravisGafford
Best reaction ever to one of the best animated episode ever! Ive watched this show so many times and i still cry my eyes out and get chills! The story telling, the animation, the sound editing, the music and the voice acting...just incredible!!
That image at the end where Powders one eye is peering out from the crook of Silco's elbow.... use the power of the internet to check out the painting "Fallen Angel" by Alexandre Cabanel (1847). Powerful imagery.
I had EXACTLY the same reaction as Ann. "Oh my god... I see what you're doing." That was exactly when I saw it coming, and I was equal parts emotionally drained and thoroughly impressed at how genius the setup was. They pulled off one hell of a magic trick.
When Vi sees the monkey head she's not thinking Powder caused the explosion she would have no reason to. She thinks Powder showed up and now she's dead too.
I can't count how many times I've watched this show and reactions of it and I never registered that water is a metaphor for madness. I think you guys are onto something.
Damn, Arcane is one of the best show ever. EVERY character is deep and interesting. I like how, in nearly every episode, you get flashback to someone. Even Silco is one of the deepest character of the show. Also i like how there is no such thing as "Bad Guy" in this show. Even Silco, you kind of get why he is doing what he is doing. Undercity got neglected by the Rich, and they want freedom. It's not just "he is villain, because he is Bad dude" we usually get in Hollywood
Arcane is amazing but one miss they did I think was Marcus. It fell pretty flat. Everything else being a 10/10 is compensating but his development and story is just so bad.
Just wanted to say what a great deep dive you two do on this episode. It's my favourite animated series and I really enjoyed watching you both question and dissect it with a real passion and intellect. Looking forward to your future reactions on the next episodes!
One of the things I love about this series is that the writers let their protagonists make huge mistakes. Everyone can see that Powder made things much, much worse by "helping" at the end, and she gets hysterical about being left behind, and those things are big character flaws, but the audience understands that she's a child and she should not need to be perfect. We also get to see Vi very definitely make some mistakes, but we still root for her, because again, she's a child and doesn't know everything yet. On top of that, their mistakes have consequences, and some of them can never be fixed. It's a very have way of writing the series, because the writers need to build empathy with characters who sometimes do things that the audience would hope they themselves could avoid, but it makes this fantasy world very realistic.
"the base violence necessary for change" is so accurate but surprising to see in a mainstream show. people think progress happens on its own but it does not. there was a war fought to free human beings from chattel slavery in the US. that is violence and it was necessary for change since people were not going to change on their own
gorgeous animation and production all around. Well said about Powder's voice actor. For Vi, I would also need a moment to collect myself after my sister accidentally killed my entire family. : (
Thank you so much for your mashups of this show, my guy. I watch your videos every time I'm feeling that Arcane post season depression. You're the best!
Here is a comment about just how good Mia Sinclair Jenness is at doing Powder's voice.. the pleading scream for Violet at the end just breaks your heart..
I always love watching the beginning of these episodes. Everyone always goes in so blissfully naive. So chipper. So happy. They have no idea what's coming.
Omg... Ive been watching Arcane stuff for forever and u just made me notice the parallel between the opening with Silco and Powder post explosion o.o thats such a good catch
It was great to see you're appreciation for the closing fade out. In a series that has many, many memorable moments, that visual combined with the music is special.
The end of that episode where the song comes in and the camera just slowly zooms out is the creators' way of saying "yes, we know what we did, and no, we're not sorry."
Watching you unpack how they've set up Powder's morality makes me so happy about your ability to see what most of us probably only saw in retrospect. After you finish, watch the Enemy music video and especially the 5-part Bridging The Rift behind the scenes. P.s. after E4, go back and watch the visuals in the first scene of E1.
The hex crystals come from some creaturues called Brackern, those crystals are on their tales and hold every memory and thougth of ages. when one of those creatures are born, they have to look for one crystal that once belonged to another one. Like a cycle, and they share knowledge and meomories. So, those crystals are like all that they are, so when Powders bomb explodes, u can hear the Bracker screams, they are dying forever not passing that wisdowm, knowledge and identity to the next generation of Brackern
20:34 watching their hopeful smile turn into horror is one of reason why the viewers choose this series for you guys, great reaction like always, this episode is so tragic yet so amazing at same time, have goosebumps all over again watching that last scene. Can't wait for second arc to start, beware of time jump.
is used in a good way the other is only used in a bad way, although the intention is good, the result goes off scale. Two cities lose their defenders, one is on the way to light and the other to darkness, one follows the dream of the Hextec and the other in the nightmare of the Simmer, two sisters are separated in tragedy and two young men are united in success .
I love the discussion and the attention to details. You two manged to catch stuff I only noticed after many repeat viewings if at all. After it's all said and done I would love to watch a post show overview of your thoughts on the artistic and storytelling tools put to work in Arcane cause even if the speculation turns out wrong the observations are S tier.
Watching your post episode discussion was so fun knowing what is coming. Keep in mind Arcane aint your typical show by any means. This is just the opening season to the wide, wide world of Runeterra.
I'm glad you two enjoyed this episode as much as you did. It definitely does its job of hooking viewers. Looking forward to your upcoming reactions to this show. 💙
ive played league of legends for 13 years. yes im surprised im still alive as well. but for real. in game. Vi says things like, "Vi, stands for violence!" or " Vi. Stands for Vice" and alot of players liked thinking it meant 6 (VI). So after she hit jinx, and jinx said "Violet please." shit i play league, im hard to make emotional lmao. but that made me cry the first time!
Highly recommend re-listening to the soundtrack of this show because each one is so good. You miss out on most of the song at the end of episode 3 unless you let the credits play through.
I really appreciate y'alls commentary asking the right questions. Really interested in seeing how you guys react to how the Piltover characters Jayce, Viktor, Heimerdinger fit into the narrative.
You don't appreciate how good episodes 1&2 are until you see episode 3. The impact of episode 3 won't work unless the foundations have been laid down perfectly beforehand. Saying that, episodes 1&2 are the least of season 1 which goes to show just how good this show is.
Arcane teaches the audience how dangerous magic can be, but also how it can change things in an extremely powerful way. It's very much a Piltovan perspective on the arcane. So I can't wait until Riot touches on Ioania where magic is literally all around you all the time. It would be interesting to see how magic operates as a narrative in a land where it's a part of life.
Powder: "I'm helping" ... Though, I really appreciate that while Silco intended to kill Powder, you can really tell that he isn't seeing her as a tool, but a kindred spirit
He doesn't see her as a tool when he adopts her, it's out of sentiment and solidarity alone. She's still bad at her inventions for a while afterward; he thought /Vi/ was the talented one of the family. It's only after being given some time to grow up and access to training and actual decent building materials that she begins to really live up to her potential.
Its such a good series, myself liking LoL lore and game but not liking the region (and characters) the series was set in in the lore, I still fell in love with it instantly, cant wait to see all of your reactions, just one small bummer's that you guys dont know the lore, items, chars etc, so many details that you (us too) could theorise on by knowing those details. Still the series did an amazing job for people that dont know anything about LoL.
It always fascinates me when people are full on support of the old way (mostly Heimerdinger's but also some of Vander's philosophies) when the reason there's friction now was because the older generation was ignoring the problem
I'm sorry, did you say anything wrong with Powder's morals? The same girl who in the first episode put nails in her monkey bomb and hoped that it would kill the boy who was chasing her?
It's Powder's fear of abandonment set on the bridge in the first scene, ep 1. Powder doesn't react to seeing her dead parents. Disassociation (red flag). Channels her trauma to be safe with her sister. Ever since she has been unhealthily tied to Vi. The worst thing that could happen to her, beyond not being seen as valuable, is being abandoned. The last scene Vi leaving (forever for all she knew) broke her. I don't blame Vi either. She was also a child. The adults created this hellish situation (including Jayce and his reckless work). Always the children suffer and grow up broken to cause more suffering.
Heimerdinger wants the status quo, but the status quo is an injustice so long as the extreme poverty of the undercity exists. He's basically a centrist and though centrism is safer it is still oppressive
Please notice that Herald the Guard heralded his appearance by whistling as he worked. Fun. And that the Councilor's name is Mel Medarda. :D Also, something no one talks much about; Powder's skin is powder white and she has powder blue hair. In our world this is not natural. Do you think it is natural in Runeterra? Or do you think that her unnatural skin pigmentation(or lack there of) and hair color has something to do with the run-off from the tool factories of Jayce's father going into the water supply of the Undercity? Why do you think Vander was choking Silco? Possibly because he redirected the run-off into the water supply so that it would more directly and immediately make an affect on the Undercity citizenry there-by causing them to react more immediately to themselves and their children being poisoned/mutated(POWDER'S Skin and Hair and Possibly Violet's Toughness and Hair). Silco definitely comes across as a "by any means necessary" type. Maybe the hair color is an outward sign that they(Powder and Vi and others with strange hair colors) have been deeply altered while in-vitro by the poisonous run-off from the factories of Jayce's father? Have you given consideration to the idea that Powder and Vi's appearances are not due to hair-dying but actual molecular(if not genetic)alterations that happened to them from water poisoning while their mother was pregnant with them. Coincidently look into the poisoning of the water in Ohio after the Norfolk-Southern train wreck.
How people feel about Jinx pre-Arcane: "Who`s this crazy blue-haired, pink-eyed Harley Quinn looking chick?" How people feel about Jinx post-Arcane:" My poor baby Powder, please let me protect you!"
It took 6 years to make the first season of the Arcane. Riot Games who made the League of Legends game on what the universe the show is from, just saw some indie music clips from a small French studio named Fortiche a while back and fell in love with their work. It was the beginning of their collaboration Fortiche made several cinematic for Riot Games improving their work and increasing the number of people working for them.
"first season" wrong it took them 6 years to start the series, meaning a lot of things, they already have the engine, models, lore and all that stuff. s2 shouldnt take another 6 years. more like 2 max, possible at the end of 2023.
@@jinzok obviously, first season meaning start of the show, second season coming out this year or the next one it doesn't take of the amount of work it took to get into the first season. The second season wasn't confirmed until the success of the first one.
@@Daojyn From watching the "Bridging the rift" docuseries (Which is also fantastic), they started working on Season2 before Season 1 was even released.
*speaking of Vander's age and wisdom* (also spoiler so don't click if you don't want spoiled guys) Ben: He's a thousand years old in his heart. Anna: He's a vampire? Me: Nah, more of a werewolf.
It's always interesting to see that many reactors assume that Vi will "be the glue" and take over the Undercity. I feel like people forget that she's also a CHILD. How is she capable and why would she be allowed to lead the whole Undercity? There would be so many adults for that haha
We have a lot of countries and different societies in the game's lore, they focused in one place and its characters to have organization. My guess is that they will do a couple seasons more of this and then more shows about other countries all in the same universe. Like, doing their whole universe. But yk, that'll take long bc there's like 150 characters in the game, every country is so rich in culture and different (Piltover even looks like the most boring one compared to the others), they have way too many stories to tell and by how much effort they put into this show and how popular it became, I'm sure that with years they'll be telling us more stories of the countries, characters and criatures we have in this world
@@itsgonnabeokay9341 if season 2 is the last we'll see about Piltover and Zaun then we definitely won't see all the chaptions from there bc they can't include them all in just one season. I get it bc as I said there's too many characters to give every single one a story, but it's also sad to miss some.
I think they could create a universe like MCU with arcane, creating more and more seasons with different characters and regions! But second season is for sure gonna be about the end of Jinx and Vis story.

The Hextech gemstones are harvested in Shurima tho and provided to Jayce by his benefactors, the Kirramans (Caitlyns family).
Amazing, you were able to see live the parrallel between Powder being pushed in the air by the explosion and Silco in the water in the opening scene. This is very impressive to me. I saw the episode many times and never figured it out myself before someone told me. You ve got a gift for this. Very nice video btw
Mia Sinclair Jenness was the voice actress for powder, she's 17 and I believe this is her first time doing voice acting. Great job on her part
She was 12 when they started
Yeah episode 3 got recorded when she was 11/12
Travis Gifford interviewed David Lyerly the voice director on Arcane. He talks about Mia and the story of recording that final scene in ep 3. He said everyone at the recording was in tears. Its at about 14:50 in the interview: ua-cam.com/video/KpURhtuXLx8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TravisGafford
Gotta be my favorite episode of the series. It really sets the mood for everything to come
It would've been mine as well if episode 9 didn't exist lol.
Last episode is perfect to me
1, 6, and 9. All insane
Best reaction ever to one of the best animated episode ever! Ive watched this show so many times and i still cry my eyes out and get chills! The story telling, the animation, the sound editing, the music and the voice acting...just incredible!!
Arcane is an absolute masterpiece from every angle.
1:00:57 It didn't make multiple explosions. It was one explosion shown from different angles/POVs.
That image at the end where Powders one eye is peering out from the crook of Silco's elbow.... use the power of the internet to check out the painting "Fallen Angel" by Alexandre Cabanel (1847). Powerful imagery.
YES!! I adore that painting and they definitely used it as inspiration for that scene 👀
This is how you set up a back story for characters. Chef's kiss of perfection.
So glad there are reactions out there willing to do lengthy discussions. Can't wait to finish watching your series. You two have a keen eye.
Man, the excitement on both of your faces at the ending of this episode perfectly encapsulates what everyone feels
Just wanted to say what a great deep dive you two do on this episode. It's my favourite animated series and I really enjoyed watching you both question and dissect it with a real passion and intellect. Looking forward to your future reactions on the next episodes!
This show constantly builds on itself. I hope you guys continue to enjoy the hell out of this. Lookin forward to what you guys think of the rest.
It's a very have way of writing the series, because the writers need to build empathy with characters who sometimes do things that the audience would hope they themselves could avoid, but it makes this fantasy world very realistic.
there is no episode of any show ever that can make me cry every time, except this one.
Was waiting for this one. I miss this series 😔
Thank you so much for your mashups of this show, my guy. I watch your videos every time I'm feeling that Arcane post season depression. You're the best!
@@jans.g6033 🙌🙌
hey i know you
The first two episodes are about building (a world, characters, etc.), episode 3 is about fucking everything up, simple. :D
I never made that connection between that look Powder and Silco when she is falling out the window...
26:40 That shot... look up "The fallen angel" by Alexandre Cabanel. I suspect the people at Fortiche know their art...
Here is a comment about just how good Mia Sinclair Jenness is at doing Powder's voice.. the pleading scream for Violet at the end just breaks your heart..
To think how not only young Powders VA was there and still did the end scene this amazingly plus on first take, not having to redo it is just crazy.
Amazing reaction and discussion, you noticed so many parallels and details
I always love watching the beginning of these episodes. Everyone always goes in so blissfully naive. So chipper. So happy. They have no idea what's coming.
Omg... Ive been watching Arcane stuff for forever and u just made me notice the parallel between the opening with Silco and Powder post explosion o.o thats such a good catch
I do wish people would get over HImmerdinger's cute-news and realize it's on his and through his inaction that the under city is in such a bad state.
whether you like this type of show or no , it is the definition of "they perfected it"
It was great to see you're appreciation for the closing fade out. In a series that has many, many memorable moments, that visual combined with the music is special.
The end of that episode where the song comes in and the camera just slowly zooms out is the creators' way of saying "yes, we know what we did, and no, we're not sorry."
😂😂😂
20:48 Woah that's rare. It took me a rewatch to catch that parallel.
Best show in the past decade, easily. I love it so much. Can't wait for your discussions of the rest of the season!
The episode that really started to kick things off for the story. Very powerful narrative impact.
NOW THE FUN BEGINS ..
Welcome, the several boxes of tissues should be by the door, right next to the "EMOTIONAL HELL" sign.
Great reaction. Consider how much you catching. You are in for a treat. You really should watch each episode multiple to times.
You don't appreciate how good episodes 1&2 are until you see episode 3. The impact of episode 3 won't work unless the foundations have been laid down perfectly beforehand. Saying that, episodes 1&2 are the least of season 1 which goes to show just how good this show is.
Safe to say everyone was waiting for this one ;))))))))
Arcane teaches the audience how dangerous magic can be, but also how it can change things in an extremely powerful way. It's very much a Piltovan perspective on the arcane. So I can't wait until Riot touches on Ioania where magic is literally all around you all the time. It would be interesting to see how magic operates as a narrative in a land where it's a part of life.
I've waited for the reaction to this episode and it has finally arrived!! Time to feast 😋
I believe that the final pullout shot is from Violets perspective as she is passing out while Marcus drags her away.
You guys get it! Can't wait for next episode!
I love you guys' theories. Can't wait for next episode.
Powder: "I'm helping"
It always fascinates me when people are full on support of the old way (mostly Heimerdinger's but also some of Vander's philosophies)
when the reason there's friction now was because the older generation was ignoring the problem
We'll show them all
It was not multiple pulsing explosions, it was the same explosion seen from different angles
Congratulations, you have now finished watching Act One. On for Act Two!
At the very last moment, Powder ruins everything for everyone. Remember that
Please notice that Herald the Guard heralded his appearance by whistling as he worked. Fun. And that the Councilor's name is Mel Medarda. :D
Also, something no one talks much about; Powder's skin is powder white and she has powder blue hair.
How people feel about Jinx pre-Arcane: "Who`s this crazy blue-haired, pink-eyed Harley Quinn looking chick?"
How people feel about Jinx post-Arcane:" My poor baby Powder, please let me protect you!"
"first season" wrong
it took them 6 years to start the series, meaning a lot of things, they already have the engine, models, lore and all that stuff. s2 shouldnt take another 6 years.
more like 2 max, possible at the end of 2023.
*speaking of Vander's age and wisdom* (also spoiler so don't click if you don't want spoiled guys)
Ben: He's a thousand years old in his heart.
Anna: He's a vampire?
Me: Nah, more of a werewolf.
This situation in the end, i think, it's about nobody blamed, but everyone blamed😢
But yk, that'll take long bc there's like 150 characters in the game, every country is so rich in culture and different (Piltover even looks like the most boring one compared to the others), they have way too many stories to tell and by how much effort they put into this show and how popular it became, I'm sure that with years they'll be telling us more stories of the countries, characters and criatures we have in this world
The 2nd season will have a clear ending to Arcane. After that they are gonna adapt some other regions for sure.
@@arwenlostlorn6569 yeah, that's what I said lol
Just a thing, there was only one explosion, but we saw it from many points of view.
Harald best character
