Always a pleasure to listen to your insights, Matt. I enjoy being able to appreciate the game at a deeper level during your recaps, even if I can't follow it at speed during the game. Thanks for the continuing education! #HailState
Matt Wyatt, thank you for doing these breakdowns for us! For us non-football players it really helps seeing how 11 men on either side of the ball can flow together to create a beautiful outcome. The thinking behind all these plays makes sense, and shows if all 11 do what they sposed to do good things happen. It’s like bunt defense in baseball with different runners on base and where they are. The plays flow the same to achieve an outcome if all 11 do what is designed together. You help us see the beauty of thought and action on the field. I can’t thank you enough!!! Ps…#14 reminded me of Don Smith and John Bond running that ball past the defense!!!
Subscribed! Don't know why I haven't done so previously, but I have all kinds of respect and admiration for all you do, including the coffee and devotional in early mornings. But, I just can hardly wait until all the boys start flocking to your house in pursuit of that little angel y'all have. Man, yeah! Keep up your stellar work, Matt!
Southeastern was really fun to watch. They did some good things out there but were against a whole lot of experience with state. They played hard to the end also. I hope they have a good year.
Horrible take. Fitzgerald is the all time leading rushing QB in the SEC and Rogers will be near the top in passing history if he stays healthy this year. You've obviously never watched State from the 60s to around 2010 if you think those two are anywhere near the worst.
Been waiting and hoping for 2 days to see if you were going to gives some film ... Thanks Matt ! No one else even put up highlights, guess no one's paying us any attention this year. But old dogs like us are used to that ain't we. 💪 HAIL STATE 💪 🏈
Good analysis. The Whittemore TD run looks like a power read on the play side. The guard pulls like it's power so if that playside end jumps out, Wright would have kept it and followed his guard. If he steps down, give the jet.
I always wondered is it illegal, as a lead blocker& noticing one guy who can stop the play, can I tackle him with me, bc here #81 just pushes him while on the run, but what if I just run my whole body into that one to that one defender so my Q.B can make a play 29:48
Can't tackle them, per se, because wrapping them up would result in a holding call. You also have to worry about where you block on their body to prevent getting a block in the back call. Ideally you'd want that receiver to just hit him hard enough to 1. tie up with him until the ball carrier passes you both or 2. as Matt said, decleat him (knock him off his feet). Tight end there was spending too much time looking back instead of picking up the next guy to block and clearing a lane for his QB.

I can’t wait for chris to play i think the offense is gonna be potent with him in there.
Glad you're back Matt!
Thanks Matt!
So excited for film study to be back
Want to see Seth Davis get more PT.
Give Wright (QB) an opportunity to if you want the offense to excel.

Outstanding ! Thank You
23:03 I think Kurt Warner calls that an "influence post"... how the WR runs that route "influences" the DB...
BANGER ❤

Will Rogers and Nick Fitzgerald are some of the worst QBs in State history.
I agree 👍🏻

Troll...
Great video, Matt! Love watching these film studies, and getting to see what worked and what didn't.
What app do you use to annotate over the plays?
I use “Ink2Go” on a mac, along with QuickTime. I edit these videos in Final Cut Pro

Awesome analysis once again. You don’t get this on SPS!
We really appreciate your hard work!!!!
Good analysis.

Thorough and insightful as usual Matt. Thanks for putting these together for us every week. You're a legend my friend.
