Nicole & Hugo, the couple in the purple outfits (1973) were actually celebrated in the 2024 edition of the ESC because they were the first contenders to do a choreography while singing.
Bobbejaan Schoepen was quite famous for his whistling. He started a western themed park in Belgium, and he would regularly had a show in one of the halls. I worked in the park for a summer in the early1980's. It's still quite popular. Louis Neefs is by far the best Flemish singer Belgium has ever had. His voice was incredible. RIP Nicole, you are missed. Ann Christy, another beautiful voice, taken much too early. Clouseau is the most popular band in Flanders and has been for the past forty years. They sell out the Sportpaleis in Antwerp for ten-twelve days in row at Christmas. They did it for years. And they will do it again this Christmas.
interesting fact, Belgium has two broadcasters participating. VRT - Dutch speaking part of Belgium / RBTF - French speaking part of Belgium. They switch every year, so in the years that entries must sing in own language, it was a song in Dutch or French.
When the number of participating countries increased, Eurovision was divided into two rounds. You now have to be among the best in the first round to make it to the final.
Awesome video! My favorite Belgian entries are 1956 (Fud), 1968, and 1976! There are two other countries that have sent an artist to ESC 4 times - San Marino (Valentina) and Switzerland (Peter, Sue and Marc). Elisabeth Andraesson has also participated 4 times - 3 for Norway and 1 for Sweden!
I think one moment in time we didn't care anymore. I mean it is the broadcaster who needs to pay for this circus. Honestly i think some people where hoping it would fail because they didn't have the budget anymore.
There is a joke we have in Belgium about our often mediocre results at Eurovision, it is "Belgium: one point" which represents the "sympathy" points given by neighboring countries. Some songs were ironic like "euro-vision". We also wonder if (even now) some countries do not send "bad" songs so as not to have to organize the very expensive ceremony the following year.
This organisation has always been very corrupt with countries giving points to friendly countries and not based on the merits of the artists. Some noteworthy Flemish artists : - Bobbejaan Schoepen. Was famous for his whistling. Founded his own themepark, Bobbejaanland, which still exists. - Louis Neefs. Greatest male voice of Flanders. Unfortunately he died in a car accident together with his wife in 1980. - Nicole & Hugo. The couple made a career of singing on cruise ships. Nicole died recently. - Ann Christy. Greatest female voice of Flanders. Died in 1984 at age 38 from cancer. - Ingeborg. Became a TV personality. - Clouseau. Became and still is one of the most popular Flemish groups. - Sergio. Is still active as BV (Bekende Vlaming) or Famous Fleming. Pas De Deux on the other hand became infamous as the most cringiest band & song ever sent to the contest. And then we have Sandra Kim, our only (French speaking) winner at age 13.

Could you react to Monaco in Eurovision? It's one of the most underrated countries that don't compete anymore
I'll add it to my list 😀

To quote Belgian Asociality's 'Eurogongshow'; "Belgium, zero points."
Faut pas avoir la lumière à tous les étages pour rater Sanomi en 2003
